Literally one just happened to me 2 days ago my whole state and two other states next to us was out of power for 1 and a half days it was pretty cool and scary at the same time I have a phobia of storms and this is the first one I've ever thought was pretty cool at the same time if being scared shitless
It's pretty cool and scary at the same time, like one second it's dry and sunny and thirty seconds later there's rain and wind and lighting and thunder crashing around you. There was one today and half the power is out
OK, this wasn't the same storm but you will *definitely* get the picture. It's scary as hell, like I figured it would be. ua-cam.com/video/dOSIjoZnHwI/v-deo.html
I can't even imagine what that would be like to experience. In the course of a a few minutes suddenly its 150mph winds and rain, it'd be like the effin apocalypse.
Everything is farts. Even the big bang is a giant shart. Think about it, a crapton of gasses explode out in every direction along with some semi solid and solid stuff. But mostly gas. Even nukes are just atoms shitting themselves...
I have just been underneath one in my house in Phoenix and still somewhat in shock. Probably 60-80mph wind with no obvious direction. Bigger than pea sized hail from the left and right. Temperature dropped 30-35 degrees in a few minutes and several inches of rain. Now it has calmed down to a tranquil monsoon storm in Phoenix. Astounding. We had a tornado warning a few weeks ago that came to nothing. But this was some of the most violent weather I've seen outside my time in South Florida, 20 years ago.
We live in Tucson as well. One of these hit our neighborhood and uprooted huge tree, knocked out power, ripped the roof off of some houses, blew out windows. It is like being in a hurricane.
I live in Tucson. I'd heard of these microburst, which are very localized & short-lived hurricane. At my work, overnight, one hit. All of the power & light poles were knocked over, like dominos. Some windows got blown out. Uprooted our favorite old growth tree, and some saquaro cacti. At home, one hit. Sounded like what I'd think a hurricane would be like. Huge hit of rain & strong winds. It toppled over an old growth tree, which tore down the power lines, onto the roof, where they were sparking. I was able to call firefighters. Unfortunately, it took the property owner 4 days to get the repairs done. In the hot & humid climate, it wasn't tolerable to live in rental. Landlord made no effort to help me. I also lost all my food, especially the extra freezer filled with Omaha steaks & other expensive meats, for a diet I was on. A friend suggested I call the local American Red Cross. They were able to find me lodging, immediately, being that it was a nature caused situation. I've always donated to them, but never thought to use their services.
***** Hehehe, that's a great idea! I honestly thought the electricity would be back on, by the next day, at the latest. I was sickly at the time, so thoughts of at least donating my food, hadn't occurred to me. I was in great need of some place cool, not the humid sauna my rental had become. Besides, the duplex apartment really didn't have a proper place to set up a BBQ.
I think I was living in Tucson during that particular microburst. The storm I'm thinking of had a tornado watch and a bunch of people were convinced that the microburst must have been a tornado. One of my Atmospheric Sciences professors at UA spent a whole 45 minutes ranting about the confusion. I don't think it was legal for your landlord to refuse to help you (unless he specifically wrote it into your lease or something). It's pretty dangerous to be without power in Tucson during the summer...even during monsoon season. Heat + no AC/swamp cooler kills people almost every year in Arizona. You and your meat could have stayed with me and my roommate if we had known you!
I think this is what happened this past Wednesday evening, June 30, 2021, in the area of Evergreen Cemetery at Oracle and Miracle Mile, here in Tucson. There were about two dozen very large, healthy trees that were knocked over. I drove through the cemetery the next day and it looked like a disaster zone, seriously. Absolutely huge trees uprooted like toys, along with large nearby headstones in some cases. Unbelievable damage from a "mere" thunderstorm.
I've been in a micro-burst when I was in the third grade. It's was crazy, the sky was half light and half dark and we had no idea what was about to happen next. We were on lunch break playing on the playground when suddenly the winds accelerated to at least were 50+ miles an hour and it blew over multiple tree crushing two girls. We were freaking out in the hallways and screaming.
I recorded the microburst that damaged half the town of Wickenburg Arizona. Causing nearly 2 ft of water to run down main Street in less than 2 minutes. I was 15 mi away when I saw a funny cloud inserted to record it. It was the very first microburst that I'd ever witnessed. It destroyed buildings and literally crushed the roofs of cars
We had a Microburst that hit our neighborhood a few years ago. It was a bad storm. I came home from going to the doctors, and the wooden fence around the property was laying flat on the ground, and all the garbage cans had been tossed around. Thankfully the garbage was just picked up that morning.
i remember back in august 2015 i was in mesa, az and i was sleeping till my dad woke me up to extremely loud rain and thunder. the next day there was fallen trees, damaged roofs, flooded streets and power outages throughout the city
When I was very small, I remember a very narrow, highly defined rain shaft moving through my backyard. No wind with it, but was wondering is this would be related. It was only around 20 ft across.
Wet/dry microbursts do not "often" generate winds up to 150 MPH - more like the straight-line winds of 70, 80, or 90 MPH. Much stronger microbursts can reach 100 MPH or higher, but I would never say that they "often" are 150 MPH. In fact, those speeds would be exceptionally rare.
Been in one mixed with hail once in my truck. The hail was bigger than quarters, and the wind shook the truck like a riot group trying to tip you over. I was pulled to the side too and I can't see anything.
I think that literally just happened here. First it was just cloudy and then in an instant extreme winds and masses of rain, my balcony looks like someone emptied two buckets of water. And now it's basically gone with only light rain.
i remember a microburst hitting where i live a few years ago it was the freakiest thing i ever witnessed knocked over a huge tree into a neighbors house collapsing the roof.. luckily no one was home at the time it happened
Tucson had one in 2005 that snapped 15 telephone poles in a row! The city replaced the wood poles with the large steel poles. I think microbursts have alot more to do with frequencies than just wind and rain. Think Thor's Hammer!
now it's monsoon season in Tucson. I love it when it rains here.these micro bursts will not destroy a home but will pull off awnings n car ports n lets not forget the Hale
Happened to me while driving. Maybe I was at the end of it, but the car jolted and my rear way was filled with a curtain of water. Thankfully I drive a stick shift so floored it and got out of knee deep water as fast as I could.
I saw one of these before, I was heading back home from railfanning. And i could see the cloud hitting the ground, when we passed it, wow it was very large and powerful
...and being IN a microburst is fun...we had softball-sized hail punching through roofs, tree limbs snapping off...the car I'd had for three months was hit so hard that it bent the frame (ironically, that night I got a card in the mail saying I needed to come in for its first oil change). Insurance adjusters were really busy, and construction contractors were booked for YEARS out for non-essential fixes (like my deck, which also got destroyed).
I got stuck in a Microburst once. It was one of the most amazing, if not scariest, experiences in my life.
What location did it occur at?
@@areez3433 Northern Virginia. It only lasted 20 seconds. But the damage it did was baffling.

Microburst isn’t only rain, it can just be a strong and violent downdraft of air. You can spot them by looking for dust rings.

"over 150 mph hour" no way. The winds can get to at least maximum 120 mph. Usually they are anywhere from 70 mph to 100 mph.
