I’m not ashamed growing up poor in the Philippines.. On the long run it will help you survive and appreciate every little things what you have… Thank you Sir Andrew for sharing a real life in the Philippines..
There`s nothing to be ashamed of... Pinoys are amazing, if you ask me. Resilient survivors! Respect from Romania!
Yes me too I grown up very poor but it’s lead us to survive and be continted appreciate work hard and dreams high at the end of the day your dreams come true in poverty ,work hard strive save money what you earn spend only your needs.thanks for your showing up.
100% my man. Adversity breeds strength. The most resilient and strong individuals I know emerged from humble beginnings. I see an undeniable strength and resilience from many in the slums. It's all about rising above and not succumbing to a victim mindset. Keep on thriving!
Many people are experiencing this situation not only in the Philippines but all over the world, there is nothing wrong if this is their fate and fate in life but even so, even though other people think they are poor, they still do it even difficult to survive in life, the most important thing is that they live without being trampled on by people.

I'm retired in Cebu City. My wife and I were eating at Jolie Bees at the I.T park one night and we both ordered chicken and rice. After getting done eating and just looking around, at our table outside, a young man came and sat down by us and started eating our left over bones, picking over them. I was stunned and offered to buy him a meal. When the meal came, he didn't eat it, he said he had already ate enough off from our chicken bones and the meal was for his 6 siblings at home.

@@retiredinmanilaoh have you been to the Philippines to know exactly what you're saying? Seeing the poor siee of the Philippines doesnt mean the whole Phils is uneducated and poor..if the educational system is poor, foreign students will no longer come over to study in the Phils..and mind you, if you happen to walk our streets and ask around in english, even street vendors can understand and communicate with english better than you do..we can even speak 2 languages at the same time: Filipino and English plus other dialects that we have depending on the province we came from..Dont ever belittle the Filipinos or our country especially if you havent been here. Your countrt might even be worst..by tye way, we have all kinds of Engineering courses offered even in our publuc universities like Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, you name it. 2 of my girl cousins are licensed Engineers. My chemical engineer cousin who graduated in Polytechnic university (PUP) sta. Mesa is now working and living in Singapore, while my civil Engineer cousin graduated in Bulacan state university is now living and working in USA..if our educ system is not working and worthless, they will not be able to practice their profession in other countries, not to mention their witt and inteligence.
That guy mining in Paracale is my cousin’s husband. My dad plans on making a car wash business soon to get him out of that dangerous job. These people are such hard workers for so little money. Every time I go to the Philippines to visit family I am humbled by their life situation. Yet even with such hardship they are still so happy and appreciative for what little they have. Thank you for sharing and creating this documentary for the world to see.
Did you think you got it bad here
i feel so damn spoiled, coz i am.
A UA-cam channel that actually shares real documentaries without putting his own narrative into it ..., how refreshing 👍👍👍
I visited the Philippines and never have I met such happy and friendly people, even though they were living in poor conditions. Makes you appreciate what you have.
Find those 'poor conditions' in any large U.S. city and see how people act.
I realized that i will never be a visitor in the philippines, Because I was grown up there.
Gross patronizing from this commenter if it’s even true that they visited the phillipines. Have some respect for the suffering from poverty - absolutely bs to perpetuate that overprivileged narrative that the poor are such friendly happy people bc that’s what you saw when you visited. I hear this all the time about Filipinos - that white/other ppl think they seem so happy and grateful like it excuses their unwarranted hardships. Like as a nation they just delight in living in hardship and waiting on tourists - what could be more offensive?
They have pretty girls, of course they are happy, while people in UK live a sad life.

Only for foreigners some of manila people acting that they're better than Visayas and Mindanao 😂
You will get eaten alive in the Philippines. They will scam you on every step. The whole country is a scam.
They are fake people 🧐 nothing bitter with their sweet tongue 😆
My wife is a filipina, she once almost died due to pagpag. This is just awful. This wonderful country and it's people just deserve better
Can you elaborate more ? Like was it like food poisoning?
How about 39th street & 8th ave in Manhattan
Madness
Of course, they are a beautiful people. They deserve better. I hate how white old men, go to the Philippines to basically buy a wife. Old disgusting men, with young beauties, for all I know you could be one of them. It even goes as far as women basically selling their daughters online, in hopes they marry outside. Basically to bring money to them so they can live better.
Many a pinay move to Saudi Arabia, to be molested, but they tolorate it because they can't get visas anywhere else.
Their demographic according to the World Bank, in 2021 was 113.9 Million. Their country is smaller than many tiny European countries and surpass them demographically. So let's be real here! That is severe overpopulation. The only way to succeed for many, is fleeing the overpopulated country of the Philippines, and many do. The women are lucky, they can marry out. The boys and the men are less lucky. They are stuck. This is something that needs to be addressed, in a Catholic country I don't see it happening. Parents living out of shopping carts with 5-6 kids is an issue. Out of a shopping cart... With five to six kids! Poor kids are lucky to eat PagPag.
They are overpopulated and they are growing even now as we speak. I guess it is Europe and U.S.A's responsibility to care for them?
So just why is this - that nation should be thriving like S. Korea, Taiwan & Japan...?
Likely a corrupt government even since Emelda Marcos...?
That is most likely food poisoning because PAGPAG is food taken from the trash and re-cooked.

It's fair to say that the Philippines and Filipinos stole your youth. They like to make life impossible to others. These people are so harsh, crude and so primitive. It's a barbaric nation. I don't believe it's possible to be proud of being Filipino. It's scientifically impossible.
same here
You are one of the very few who can admit that life is hard in the Philippines. Most Filipinos instictively lie to themselves as coping mechanism, and pretend that Philippines is the best country in the world despite living in other countries or applying in other countries. They should stop on their sensitive little pride and be humble enough to admit the reality. That's why nothing improves in the Philippines.

Ive lived as retired American these last 5 years in Philippines. This is a great opportunity to see human survival spirit in action in absolutely deplorable conditions. The chickens, by the way, are also raised in factory farms under deplorable conditions and GMO modified to be animals that in no way could survive in the wild without being medicated with stuff that keeps their overweight bodies alive.
The irony is we live in a country rich in resources and rich in technology. The only problem being ,we , as a world, have subordinated these resources and technologies to paper fiat currency and now look what we have? We have a broken system that only those who are born lucky can thrive while millions in ghettos live like this, destroying environment and just getting by, for this thing we call money, everyday. 😢There must be a better way to live , love, and learn on this planet together . A resources based economy but that would take a world willing to include all peoples working living loving and learning together.😊
it's what we wanted in the 70s
I know this won't be a popular topic due to the fact that there's so much human suffering in this video. However, your comment about animals being factory farmed and deplorable conditions is spot on and makes me sad. As an animal rescue worker who has broken into factory farms and taking pictures.. these travesties are the stuff of nightmares everywhere around the world.

Not having what you want. Always be grateful for what you have. Treating others well and helping those in need is always very rewarding. And you wonder how they are smiling though hard time🤔, it because they are high on honey 🥴🤪😆
For anyone who may be curious about it: the word "pagpag" essentially means "to brush off" or "to dust off." Also "to shake off." Ever heard of the 5 second rule? Food fell on the floor, hasn't been 5 seconds yet, you pick it up, brush off any visible dirt or what have you, and still consider it good enough to eat, so you do.
You can’t brush off parasites or disease though. I respect the hustle but you can get seriously sick eating rotting garbage.

16:57 I think the Filipino version of Popeye would be Pag-eye who instead of eating a can of spinach, would eat a portion of Pag-pag which although it may not give him superhuman strength, it would imbue him with superhuman Filipino spirit, resilience and resourcefulness to overcome hardship, defeat Bluto, and save Olive.
@@allisonfaxx4636 I haven't dived in with that part of our history. So I'm not 100% sure it's accuracy.
I believe huge part of mindanao has been papulated with our Muslim people a long time ago. As well as indigenous peoples like my tribe, bagobo tagabawa. What I do know is that Filipinos that settled here in our land before all the invasion are consist of mix races. The malay, Indonesian, and Ita which there dna mostly consist of African race. This makes PH the most diverse mix of races even before all the invasions happened.

The fly larvae sounds really interesting and logic at the same time, and the gold mining,I mean come on,thats amazing & dangerous at the same time. And the honey? Man I'd love to get that stuff first hand, unfiltered just like you had. You gained a member Sir and I'm very curious as to what there is to come! Thank you 🙏
Wow, Andrew. Eye opening! Also, brought tears to my eyes given the extent to which they go for a little bit of food and money. Thanks for shining a light on this.
I absolutely love my beautiful Filipino wife. Will be married 27yrs in a couple days, her family is incredible and also a very tight knit group of ppl. Her grandfather who was born in the Philippines, fought for the Philippines and somehow became an American soldier during WW2, survived the Bataan death March, survived the war, later stationed in New Mexico where my father-in-law became a US citizen. Talk about never knowing where you'll end up in life. I've never been to the Philippines but if the ppl there are anything like my in-laws and wife then they truly are an amazing people. I feel really lucky to have found the woman I have. Nothing at all wrong with the Philippines or the ppl. Great little documentary video.
This made me cry. What tragic suffering people go through to survive. This speaks so much about the evil that has befallen many poor Filipinos and yet you see how the powerful of the country abuse their positions and plunder public funds to satisfy their greed
Most of the world has similar stories and foods. Open your eyes to your own country and surroundings, the odds are that you have been wearing blinders.
Congratulations Andrew on your highest viewed video! Documentary Stories suit you. Well done!
Why doesn't Jollibee install a uneaten food recycle bin next to the trash to keep things more sanitary and help in sorting it?
My guess is the same as why America doesn’t keep perfectly good left overs and give them to the homeless or corporations throwing good furniture and such away and breaking it first so nobody can dumpster dive and use it for free, they want money and all of it… they don’t want anyone else making profit on even the pitiful left overs
Just discovered your video. Thank you for capturing the rawness of poverty in the Philippines. It's shocking, heart breaking and inspiring all at the same time. I appreciate the decency in your investigating and your humility when interacting with the locals. As a Filipino growing up in the west, I am amazed with the resiliency of those back "home" and their determination to survive even under the harshest conditions. I look forward to your future videos. Thank you, Andrew. I have learned from you.
Do you ever go back
WOW VERY DANGEROUS SIR! I WILL NEVER GO TO PHILIPPINES!!😡😡 THIS WHY IM SO LUCKY LIVE IN SUPER INDIA THE CLEANEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD 🇮🇳🤗 , WE NEVER SCAM! If they used contraception in the Philippines there wouldn't be half the poverty. There are tens of millions of Catholics in the west, myself included, but you don't have kids if you can't afford to give them a decent standard of living,as seen in this video. Having kids in grinding poverty is heartbreaking and avoidable. These people are brainwashed by the church, usually
It's because of his kind that things are the way they are.
@@kevindurand3237 I agree, but its not just the church that perpetuates poverty. I could list a whole host of other factors, but I'm choosing to bite my tongue for my own self preservation. Thanks for your comment.
This was a good reminder of why we need to be grateful for what we have. So many people live on so little. The pagpag food really hurt my heart. No one should have to eat rotten scraps to live. It would be nice if you truly enjoyed going out there and filming the people as they endure this suffering (all puns intended) that you also provide links to how your audience can help these people and efforts you made to help them as well.
yes!
I hope you gave all those ppl plenty of money. You can well afford it and they need it. Especially as the honey and larvae are not easy to get and are vital to their survival.
Bro! I hope your videos get billions of views!! They’re incredible!! Great videography, story, production, editing!
Great work mate!🎉
As a Filipino I'm embarrassed that someone from another country beat me in going to places in the Philippines that are exceptionally "challenging", to say the least. But I love the vicarious experience and your courage in getting your ass to largely unseen and unvisited places is incredibly amazing. People in the North should now stop whining and appreciate the enormous blessings they';re enjoying.
It's never going to happen. American people will never appreciate anything. Especially living in a welfare state.

@tonyalberto. Not sure what you mean by the 'North' ... but I do agree that 'certain' people in first world countries should stop whining about every little gd thing!!
And, yes they should be forever GRATEFUL for what they have ... it 'could be' a lot worse for them.
The people in some countries who complain about their circumstances especially in 'crying poverty' don't know what 'real' poverty is!
@summera3926 , Unless you've eaten pag pag, you'd really know how tough poverty is.
@@indiasuperclean6969 your country has so much more crime than ours. if you survive your country might be easier to survive here. Ive handled several Indian works back in mideast but they are not as ignorant as you are.
This is a testament to human's will to survive. One can only pay sincere respect to the tenacity with which hold onto life and life cooperatively with each other. Much respect! And thanks for the video. Well done!
I appreciate your participation in the videos fully as to also try the same food they eat! Whether pag pag or mad honey with larvae you involve yourself to bring a good presentation to your viewers. Good work!
People in north America should view this video. God bless these people.
Dude you earned a subscriber from me. Love your documentary no language filters, just 100% keeping in real. Thank you for showing the real struggles in the Philippines my mother land. Please do more
There is a reason for it. Ask Allah why.
I am so sad with his video content who earned him ( views= $ ) by putting our kababayans, my mother land in a deep shameful.Anyway this is just a fractions of people who has engaged of eating pagpag...You earned my un-respect from you.
it's pretty amazing to see how resilient and resourceful the Philippine people are. Every corner of the world has it's problems, and in those corners there will always be people surviving where we would not expect anyone to be able to thrive or survive. Still sucks that extreme poverty is the accepted loss for the extremely wealthy. And the people are finding Eco-friendly ways of innovating solutions to their problems.
I love the Philippines. Been twice, can't wait to go again. My fiancé is Filipina working here in the states. I love her family so much.
So she gets a free residency the USA..
@@SeeYouEnTee666 She already got it without me through her job. But yes, it will become permanent.
Thansk youtube for recommending me such quality content. Appreciate these documentaries. I've been going around studying the history and cultures of ASEAN countries and many undiscovered stories that people never heard of. I hope my fellow ASEANS will be more interested with cultures around them rather than focusing on popularized pop culture. This video brought me new depth of gratefulness for my country and situation. However, it also shows me that tenacity of a human being is really strong.
I absolutely adore the Philippines. The people are amazing and the country is beautiful. I miss it so much
So go back
You love poverty, starvation and fly lava?
Only the girls are
Then come and live here then?
I love the Phillipines and there people!!! Very social, kind, and sharing!!! I encourage people to not have fear but get out of the cities to visit the provinces in the Phillipines among the people in love and generosity!! You will make friends for LIFE!!!

Wow 👏👏👏👏👏 documentary 👍👍👍👍👍
You have an extremely well developed Broadcast Personality. This was a great video, start to finish.
The true face of my country Philippines,,, everyday struggle but worth fighting for,,, 🇵🇭
Do see pagpag sold all over in the Philippines, no. This is only in the inner communities of Manila.
True face lol, only in squatter areas of Manila.
nakakapagod din sis😢
True face? Seriously? Not true at all in every slums of Manila, this practice can only be found in a small portion of the slum in Tondo, Not even the whole slum of Tondo! Accdg. to this vlogger, referring to one of his replies, they framed it in one of the Baranggay's there who are into a recycling economy....

I live in Philippines but i never heard of this,, this is heartbreaking as we also are poor but seeing this im still thankful for my parents for not letting us eat recycled food..
You don't watch or own tv ? Pagpag are covered by Philippines tv stations before UA-cam was exist.
@@silverianjannvs5315hi
You lived in the Philippines but unaware of this "pagpag"eating.lifestyle of the poor? And you consider yourself poor? Glad that your parents didn't let you eat recycled food...if you mean leftover food from the fridge, then you are NOT considered poor...because almost all people in this planet eat leftover food FROM THE FRIDGE NOT FROM THE TRASH BINS.I've seen people make a new recipe out of those leftover foods from for example,Thanksgiving celebration and a new menu is born.Recycle food...leftover food, maybe wrong choice of word and meaning?
Your on too much TikTok
@@roninbushito Did TIK TOK ever feature Filipinos eating "pagpag"food? Or just probably from your imaginary tiktok...
This is a amazing documentary 👍🏿 great insite on the Philippines, seems like a superb country, amazing lands. The poverty is extremely difficult and workers risk their lifes. Amazing talented people come from the slums. God bless you for this video and sharing your experience. Such a well created vlog. Peace and love from 🇬🇧
My grandmother grew up poor with 11 other siblings in the Philippines. She made her own way from the farms and ended up working hard to own several nightclubs and bars in rhe city. By the time my mother was born my grandma was considered a millionaire. She had a mansion with servants and everything. Then she married a marine and moved to the US and basically started all over.
Started all over watchu mean? How?!
I guess relocating to a different country with a different culture. And learning to assimilate. @@SuperSlimshady1

Great cinematography, Andrew! The color-grading is amazing and adds to the story. It's sad to see how much food is being wasted like this when we could easily invest in better food distribution strategies! Kudos to you and your team
I think so too. His AV person is top notch. Really, really very professional.
That still shot is incredible.
Killing it Andrew amazing documentary keep it up mate. 👍🏻
Incredible quality. I got here from seeing a comment you made on a best ever food review show episode on australia and looking at your profile. The algorithm should have showed me this video because i enjoyed it a lot. Hopefully with more likes your videos will be shown to more people. Great journalism. Keep it up
Super impressed by this documentary! I thought this would simply be a run-of-the-mill
vlog but, nope, this is an actual documentary that is much better than most mainstream media ones. Great presentation, pace, story telling. This is A+! Awesome job Andrew Fraser!
Verry good comment liitle man
That was absolutely fascinating. Cant wait to see more.
When you feel down for whatever reasons, watch this video and feel blessed.
the Filipino Nation can survive in any situation....
I've watched your video till the end and will continue to support you by watching more of your videos about the Philippines. I appreciate your interest in our country. God bless
than you for the broadcast it brought me back to my younger adventure yrs .... LUV IT
Thank you so much for crafting such eloquent stories, and for taking us along for a tour with astonishing insights. Kudos to Andrew and the whole crew!
The Filipino people are so gracious and beautiful on the whole! Generous happy souls, in spite of the harsh living conditions!
This is incredible and informative. Thank you. I feel a mix of sadness, guilt and awe seeing this.
Bro, doing the documentary of the Philippine Islands is priceless. You done a good job and i'll be waiting for the next episode. thank you
Deserve to have a million views indeed. What a beautiful country, the Philippines.
Some countries have oil, others have girls. They just need a better way of promoting them. They would be like UAE.
Enjoy and discover our 7,000 and more Islands wooohoooo Mabuhay Philippines gogogo 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭❤️❤️❤️
I love how you presented this different strories , jumping into a new story in btw 🙌
This is one of the most enjoyable documentaries I have seen in UA-cam. Amazing…! Thank you!
Also i would like to know where i could see the lady in the thumbnail still.
This stuff is beyond UA-cam. It's good tv! This is only the second vid I watched of yours and already I'm a huge fan. You're a visionary sir second to an affective journalist and maybe an entertaining youtuber third. Whatever the case you deserve a Casey neistat following. Did you ever work at natgeo? Cause I'd watch you if you did :)
Casey is a dirtball....
My parents are from the jungle of Laos. What they're eating is a blessing. Not taking away the poverty from the Philippines but there are even worse places.
Dayummnn! You are really going deeper in this. This is what we call "The Battle of Life"
Thanks for sharing, I am very humbled!
I'm impressed that you tried pagpag, that vendor definitely gave you a generous piece.
