I usually complain about CGI effects (not animation, EFFECTS) in Japanese movies, but Goemon (and Casshern) is one big exception. The CGI in this movie creates an out-of-this-world atmosphere, almost like a fantasy setting, and it really works.
Honestly, one of the best films I've ever scene! Best possible live-action anime anyone can ask for! The acting is great and the cgi is more fantasy than real but it works amazingly well.

As a avid fan of Samurai and from forth Naruto, i would love to see a Naruto Live Action Movie turn out just as great as this one did, the effects were pretty great and gave of a Anime charm alongside which is why i'm commenting this

I dont know why, but the guy at 1:36 reminded me of Vergil so much from Devil May Cry 3, not just his monotone facial expressions but the way he carried himself. Anyone else agree?

@AlexanderBrooke They are both based on Ishikawa Goemon a Japanese bandit/assassin that stole gold and gave it to the poor (notice the gold throwan on the roof as a small similarity) I believe you can also collect and throw gold in the goemon games from Konami
Yes, it's based on the same story Goemon the Mystical Ninja is based, though it's not a film about that game. Goemon was a real person, a famous thief who lived in 16th century Japan. Both the videogame and this film are based on real Goemon. He would steal gold and give it to the poor, some sort of Japanese Robin Hood but one who existed for real.
just finish watching this. beautful setting, great casts, great/sad story. ALOT of CG involve, so people who dislike highly animated film should avoid this. but other than that, GOEMON is probably one of the best japanese action movie ever imo

I liked it a lot. Sometimes the actors didn't match the cg backgrounds but that's pretty much the only complaint I can think of. Overall I thought it was very enjoyable.
Such an awesome animated movie! I like how the story featured with the tale of Pandora Box; however, still a bit confused with the scene between Toyokawa-sama and Goemon. It's lovely to use the same quote of Goemon at the beginning and the end of the story! And...and....and....Eguchi-san looks super duper cool in there!!!=P
That's true. their is still some mystery behind who Goemon actually was and the true story behind his actions, it's just to bad that all the stories about him still end in tragedy. I have not seen the movie yet, but I do not want to risk spoiling it. This is what I love about some of the video games in Japan, most of the characters are based off of real people (onimusha for example).

Nice movie, like his first movie Casshern! This director know how to create imaginative world all numerically in a very unique way, a must to see
