Absolutely top tier camera work for a UA-cam review. Usually I'm not a huge fan of the UA-cam consumer tech review scene but if you put this much effort into the production, it makes it a lot more enjoyable to watch.
Correction about charging at 3:45 - the internal battery can be charged with the grip on by connecting the camera to a USB cable. The camera can also be set up so that the internal battery is used last, reducing the necessity to charge it.
Had my X-T2 since early October 2016. Sold my DSLR and got the power boost grip and the 16-55mm zoom. The first experience was a landscape shoot in Letchworth State Park, the results, WOW! I used Velvia film simulation, the JPEG out of the camera without editing was truly hard to believe. I just ordered the infrared filter for my 16-55mm, can not wait to use it. The last time I had so much fun was using my Minolta SRT 101 in Vietnam. The layout of buttons and dials is totally intuitive, the build quality of the camera is superb. Quick note: With the boost grip and large lenses, it is not much lighter that a DSLR! However, I love this experience with Fujifilm X-T2, it's a keeper!
The in body battery can be charged by usb! You don't have to take your battery out of the camera and or grip (which is charged by the included adapter)! I have my X-T2 for two months now and have tons of fun with it. Fuji brings back the fun in photography. I started with the X-T2 50-140mm F2.8 and booster grip. At first I was thinking that I would never use the camera without grip, but for about one week now I left the grip off the camera to see if I would miss it. Without the grip... fell in love again (as with the grip)! I love the "transformer" style setup which you can fit to your personal situation. Happy Shooting 2 All - whatever system you use -
Just happened to see this in recommended and always love HW Canucks videos, I will say the statement that Fuji is one of the less popular mirrorless camera brands? That totally blew me away, you guys are officially living under a rock. Fuji has been very popular since x100 and xpro-1 circa 2011 and 2012. The X-T1 was one of the first mirror less camera's that made people start to believe they could indeed replace SLR's for more action oriented task.
If i may offer a slight correction or clarification. Whilst the body is sealed you will also need a weather sealed lens to take advantage of it. The kit lens (18-55mm F2.8-4.0 R LM OIS) is not weather sealed. In the fuji lens universe the letters WR are used to indicate weather resistance on their lens.
Excellent, really excellent piece. Beautifully shot, edited, written, etc. I’m a Fuji X-E1 user (3 bodies) and looking to upgrade to a better body for at least 1, plus am doing a lot of video, so the XT-2 looks like it will fit bill. Your review was really helpful, thanks.
Hmm, what's that at 1:14 on the lamppost? seems like a bit of rolling shutter, but I dont really know. A few things I noticed you failed to mention: you CAN charge the battery inside the camera via USB, with a powerbank for example, so you dont technically HAVE to remove the grip. There ARE adapters for X-Mount, maybe not "smart" ones, but you can use other lenses on this body.
Great review. Love it. Hard to find camera reviews that are analytical, technical, and precise. I encourage you to do more of it, for maybe you'll be able to create your own niche. Thanks and God bless.
Just wanted to point out that I believe you can charge the battery in the body with the grip still on. You just need to plug in a power cord to one of the side ports. Can you verify?
I really like watching your videos (all of you); excellent channel. Professional, neet, not loud, amazing editing. I wash this channel videos with a cup of tea. Ebro you are really good. Greating guys, keep up the excellent work.
what about the severe bandong in the blue sky in some of the test shots near begining? is this down to camera limitation / bad colour grading / a dodgy lut / a picture profile ?
The X-T2 is the king of the mirrorless cameras right now. There are a few inaccuracies in the video. Below are my comments: 1. For the EVF refresh reate 100FPS boost, you do not need the additional grip. 2. You CAN adapt Nikon lenses to it. Look up Metabones adaptor or K&F Concept (awesome quality, cheap, eBay) 3. Fujifilm said that F log is coming internally, in a future firmware update 4. You said it is lacking image stabilization? No it does not. If you use zoom lenses, such as the "kit" lens that you show on the video, 18-55, it has vibration reduction on the lens. Of course, only in zooms, not on current primes. 5. The "kit" lens, 18-55 f2.8-4 is extremely good! Should not be categorized as the "other" kit lenses of other brands, which most of them suck. 6. SOOC JPG pictures coming out of the Fujis are amazing!
4:36 He said no electronic adapters -- that means no adapting of electronic driven lenses is what he meant. Fuji didn't outright promise internal F-log through firmware.. a Rep -- said it is possible.
You caught most of the inaccuracies but you also put a few in your comment. Your first sentence is objectively wrong along with 2nd and 4th points are wrong, so about half of everything you said. 1st - slow-clap 2nd - He clearly said "there are no electronic adapters on the market now" which means the camera can't control the lens. So you would have to use a passive adapter which is not worth bothering with in most cases. 3rd - He did miss this but to be fair Fujifilm should have included F log in the box, you should not have to wait to get simple functions with a firmware update months after a $1500 camera is released. 4th- The camera is lacking image stabilization. You seemed to be confused so I'll remind you a camera is not a lens. The direct competition for this camera that has been out for a while has image stabilization and this one does not so thus it is lacking/missing image stabilization. 5 - That used to be the case but this has not been the case for a few years, Fujifilm's kit lens is in line with others. 6 - Their JPEGS are good but a regular setup for this camera it going to come in around $2k, a price point where raw is king bar none.
Replying to your "comments": 1. Well, you are objectively wrong on this one! You mean that the X-T2 is slow? (and you mean crap?) If this is the case, you have no idea what you are talking about. Have you used it? If you set the proper AF-C settings right, it as fast or even a bit faster to Nikon D500. In you are referring to the EVF's 100FPSP being slow, all I can do is laugh! 2. You can adapt lenses from other brands on the Fuji. You just need to know how to manual focus. Is this a problem for you? 3. It is called firmware update and is something that Fuji is doing (Kaizen updates, google it) even for their discontinued products several years ago. Find me another camera manufacturer that does this. Also, to your point, X-T2 does not claim to be the first choice for pro video users. Yes, they have improved video dramatically, but obviously there is room for improvement such as internal F-Log and zebra stripes. A non-pro user, most likely does not even know what F-log is and how to use it. But, according to the Fuji manager, they are looking to bring it internally. And the price is $1600 for the X-T2. 4. I know very well what the in-body IS vs lens IS is. But no matter how you see it, it IS image stabilization. You are probably referring to Sony. There are different routes the two companies decided to do IS. Each has pros and cons. But, since there is Vibration reduction on the lens the outcome is image stabilization. Are you comparing where IS is implemented? Who cares, if it works? 5. That's your opinion... The Fuji 18-55 f2.8-4 is superb, and for the price difference ($300), it definitely worth for someone to get it, if not already own. Find me a similar lens, with big aperture and characteristics similar to the "kit" lens. Have you used many "kit"lenses? It doesn't sounds like it... 6. You have clearly not used a Fuji before. And just so you know...The gap between FF and APS-C has closed down significantly! Yes, FF is still a bit better for low light, but it is not as it used to be. The Fuji output is magical. Just curious...Sony fanboy?
yes George.. he obviously does not know fuji jpegs nor the quality of the lenses, most likely never used a manual lens on a mirror-less cam before either.
George Pantazis So I'm not going to waste my time reading your comment. I know what I wrote is right because I fact checked it before writing it. You however clearly don't know as much as you thing you do and don't bother to fact check before you try to correct people.
Quite a bit of horizontal stutter in some shots. Looks like an electronic reason to me (not fluid head related). Esp. in 1:12 - 1:16 ... :/ Or is the raw footage fine and something went wrong in post production?
Great video/review but a note to say that the cameras internal battery can be charged without removing the vertical battery grip by utilising the usb 3/usb 2 connection on the camera. All 3 batteries can be charged without removing any of them.
I've heard reports of overheating when charging the old NP-126 batteries in the grip. The new NP-126S batteries are designed for better heat management, so they don't have the same issue.
Awesome vid. I want to add that you dont need to remove the grip to charge the internal battery. You can connect a usb cable and charge that way, while simultaneously charging the grip with the DC cable.
A great video, brother !!! I like your presentation, lucid speech which is easy to understand and the clippings are simply superb. Planning to get an used XT2 soon and thanks for the crisp and informative review about the camera.👍👍👍
Dude you gave the perfect info in a small time frame & cleared all the clutter from other reviews, loved it, thank you. Also can you answer my question to " does sigma aps-c lenses fit to this camera with an adapter to the full utilization of the glass without lens cropping".
At 1:13 it looks like you're getting some image wobble (jelly wobble), if you haven't already, you might want to update the firmware in your 18-55mm lens. This lens is prone to wobble when zoomed in however Fuji has addressed this with an update. Also, nice review.
by the way if u wanna use your Canon or other auto focus that works with Canon, you can buy an adapter. Rokinon/Samyang's lenses are manually focus so they are easier to switch since you only need a cheap adapter and the job is done!
With the battery grip that thing is huge! Also at that weight you might as well carry around a full frame DSLR. It's good to see Fujifilm is keeping up with competition from sony
The battery in the camera can be charged via USB. So it should be possible to charge the in-camera battery without having to detach the battery grip. Or is USB charging somehow deactivated while the grip is mounted? I coulnd't find a reason why that should be the case though...
So shall I switch from my canon 5D Mark3 to fujifilm XT2? Because I am not satisfied with canon, mainly in it's bloody focus system. I really need a mirror less camera with fast and accurate focusing system with the same speed and accuracy of Nikon D500 or D5. Is XT2 having such a speedy focusing mechanism? Please give a reply on my doubt.
you can use all of your nikon glass or other lenses through via adapter. You will be able to adapt so many lenses to this camera, a wide ecosystem of glass.
Impressive video, man ! Someone in the comments said you're one of the rare camera reviewers who really care about composition and photography, and I totally agree : Your visuals are gorgeous ! May I ask you if all the footages we see are straight out of the camera, or did you apply some post grading on it ? If it's the first, I'm pretty curious to know which film simulations presets did you use for it. Thanks.
Really hard to call it a camera of the year considering that A6500 was just announced and spec wise it either matches or outperforms X-T2 + has IBIS in a small form factor. That being said, it doesn't change the fact that X-T2 is a great camera.
fck sony :) after another 7 month new 6600 will come out. no value in their systems you can invest into expensive sony glass but all that designed for FX and not crop. This is where fuji shines, all glass high quality all made in Japan, compact and defines what is true mirrorless is about. I'm not a fanboy even if I sound like one but I'm true sony hater and their customer support.
Hating on their quick release schedule seems inconsiderate. It forces aggressive advancements in camera market and competition between manufacturers. Both of those things are beneficial for end consumer. Introduction of A6500 doesn't devalue A6300 nor meant it is meant to replace it since both are at different price targets.
Appreciate your review and recommendations, I agree with you if you are coming from nikon DSLR you should have no problem switching menu and still pleasing photos in fact you will see your self using it much more often than the DSLR because of the size deference..
I wouldn't say that the lens ecosystem is in infancy. Check out other fuji glass. It as good as it gets for aps-c. Infact I was surprised when I realized that the whole video was shot with the kit lens. I was planning to get it without kit and get 35f2 but now I am back to square one. I have kept an eye everywhere for reviews and you guys have done justice to the camera. Cheers!
To be fair most kit lenses these days are actually quite good. They're just generally not built particularly well for heavy use and are very much a jack of all trades thing, so there are obvious compromises there. But quality wise they're very good for what they are. They're especially good for video given most have IS and lack of sharpness isn't quite as noticeable as stills.
Excellent video. Thank you for the time and effort of creating a professional review. Maybe put an overlay on the video indicating that when you say Canon/Nikon lenses can't be mounted that they actually can via a low cost adapter ... they are simply manual focus when mounted. I have for my XT1/XT2 both a Nikon adapter and a Canon adapter ($30 purchase off of Amazon) and have mounted 30yr old Canon & Nikon lenses. With the manual focus assist feature that mirrorless cameras offer, it brings new life into what was considered obsolete glass.
Thanks for the video. I believe evf refresh rate can be 100 without the extended grip with boost mode on the camera body alone. And couldnt you also charge the battery in the main body via usb cable (sold separately) while charging the two batteries in the extended grip with the provided cable?
I love this channel's attention to cinematography, way better than most.
Incredible
Thanks man :D
Absolutely top tier camera work for a UA-cam review. Usually I'm not a huge fan of the UA-cam consumer tech review scene but if you put this much effort into the production, it makes it a lot more enjoyable to watch.
WOW on that intro! Really is documentary quality right there. I love it! ❤️

Love your guys vids! Simple, beautiful and informative.

Absolutely one of the best Fuji xt2 reviews I've seen, answered most of my concerns. Thanks for sharing bro!
it's not just the specs , this camera gives you the sensation that is something more , a kind of magic that others don't have
Just happened to see this in recommended and always love HW Canucks videos, I will say the statement that Fuji is one of the less popular mirrorless camera brands? One day ill get one of these, im in love with it
why do i feel lighter after that intro... Feeling like a nice and good human now
same
I want them to make a "relaxation" channel, where they just upload a video on scenes like that, once a week.

Pace and content of this review are excellent. Nice job.
I just bought an X-T2, and I'm very impressed.
that intro was really well done. beautiful shots
Ash Tailor is written all over these videos. It gets no better. Keep doing your thing!

I bought one after much research and consideration and for my needs it rocks.

Best review of the x-t2 that I have seen so far - Thanks!
I loved your intro. Very smooth transitions and good choice of scenery, bits of Americana. Thank you.
Awesome vid. I want to add that you dont need to remove the grip to charge the internal battery. You can connect a usb cable and charge that way, while simultaneously charging the grip with the DC cable.
Wow, best camera review ive ever watched. Thank you!
A great video, brother !!! I like your presentation, lucid speech which is easy to understand and the clippings are simply superb. Planning to get an used XT2 soon
and thanks for the crisp and informative review about the camera.👍👍👍
Would love to see more camera stuff from you guys!
Just a heads up, you can charge the in camera battery with a micro usb cable without detaching the grip.
an excellent review, beautifully made. makes me love my xt2 even more.
hey, would you guys consider doing camera reviews again? that video was so nice and refreshing really
Thank you for this HIGH QUALITY Review and you own detailed opinion!
Dude you gave the perfect info in a small time frame & cleared all the clutter from other reviews, loved it, thank you. Also can you answer my question to " does sigma aps-c lenses fit to this camera with an adapter to the full utilization of the glass without lens cropping".
Very nice piece of film making. Your use of camera movements and composition are fantastic. How long have you been doing video production?
you make very good content, also your camera movement is super smooth and satisfying to watch :D good work. +1 sub :)
Beautiful lighting at the end!
At 1:13 it looks like you're getting some image wobble (jelly wobble), if you haven't already, you might want to update the firmware in your 18-55mm lens. This lens is prone to wobble when zoomed in however Fuji has addressed this with an update. Also, nice review.
I didn't think that watching the intro of a camera review would make me smile.
Awesome video to watch, well done all around! I don't own a Fuji but it has peaked my interest.
High class video in every way. Wow
yo at 10:49 the lighting in the room is awesome! how do you get a room lit like that?
by the way if u wanna use your Canon or other auto focus that works with Canon, you can buy an adapter. Rokinon/Samyang's lenses are manually focus so they are easier to switch since you only need a cheap adapter and the job is done!

Great review, I would use this as my go to camera for video.
Excellent - your thoughts are well thought out and clearly stated. Good observations and photos/videos.
The battery in the camera can be charged via USB. So it should be possible to charge the in-camera battery without having to detach the battery grip. Or is USB charging somehow deactivated while the grip is mounted? I coulnd't find a reason why that should be the case though...
Amazing camera. I own one. Amazing video. Great job!
i enjoy how u play with ure light sources in the product shot :) awesome
HardwareCanucks the only tech chn that can do commercial grade adds.
it's great camera for video look from fujifilm x-t2 and thanks for your video
Thanks for the review. Still wanting to know if you still need full frame to get those great wedding portrait bokeh shots.
The camera is amazing!
Fuji's unrivalled film simulations in 4k video mode make this ideal for those with a rapid or minimal production cycle.
Just heads up, the range on the kit lens is wrong, it's 18-55, the 18-35 is a sigma lens dimitry uses on his gh4
Great review on one of my favorite cameras. Thanks!
Strange question: What FONT is that you're using for the text inside the video? Thanks
Btw, what camera do you use for your 4K shots? They look so crisp and good!
Please give a reply on my doubt.
did ash direct this video? I have a feeling he did.
Is that a rolling shutter issue at 1:12?
i think this is the first fuji's camera that can record high quality video
Super nice video! I was impressed of the picture quality at the end of the video. What camera have you used for that?
Seems so long ago now that all sorts of adaptors & accessories are available. Still a great cam.
you can use all of your nikon glass or other lenses through via adapter. You will be able to adapt so many lenses to this camera, a wide ecosystem of glass.
Hi, heard that it has a slight green tint in JPEG, is that correct ?
Impressive video, man !
Someone in the comments said you're one of the rare camera reviewers who really care about composition and photography, and I totally agree : Your visuals are gorgeous !
May I ask you if all the footages we see are straight out of the camera, or did you apply some post grading on it ?
If it's the first, I'm pretty curious to know which film simulations presets did you use for it.
Thanks.
you don't need battery grip to boost EVF refresh rate, you can use build in boost mode to enable it. this is camera of the year or nikon d500
Really hard to call it a camera of the year considering that A6500 was just announced and spec wise it either matches or outperforms X-T2 + has IBIS in a small form factor. That being said, it doesn't change the fact that X-T2 is a great camera.

what camera systems do you own?
Nikon and Sony. Owned Nikon for about 6 years and A6000 as secondary camera.
am buying a A6500..you confused me now . What shall i buy A6500 or xt2?
You do not have to remove the grip to charge the internal battery. It can be charged USB on the camera with the grip on.
do you think there will soon be a successor to the xt2 ?
Appreciate your review and recommendations, I agree with you if you are coming from nikon DSLR you should have no problem switching menu and still pleasing photos in fact you will see your self using it much more often than the DSLR because of the size deference..
How is the autofocus in very low light...NYC clubs with band playing in particular ?
They're especially good for video given most have IS and lack of sharpness isn't quite as noticeable as stills.
beautifully shot video
Maybe I heard wrong but you can charge the in camera battery without removing the grip.
were those initial shots included post processing or without post processing ?
Excellent video. Thank you for the time and effort of creating a professional review.
Maybe put an overlay on the video indicating that when you say Canon/Nikon lenses can't be mounted that they actually can via a low cost adapter ... they are simply manual focus when mounted. I have for my XT1/XT2 both a Nikon adapter and a Canon adapter ($30 purchase off of Amazon) and have mounted 30yr old Canon & Nikon lenses. With the manual focus assist feature that mirrorless cameras offer, it brings new life into what was considered obsolete glass.
im really saving money for this camera. its lightweight and awesome picture quality.
Make a tutorial about color grading. The intro looks amazing!
Can u do a video about choosing between fujifilm xt2 and xpro2 ?
good vid, love the use of lighting
Nice review; Boost mode is available without the grip btw.
omg I love this camera so much!!! Can you do a review for the X-Pro2 too ??
How would you rate this compared to s c100 mk2 for video? I'm looking to make documentaries
Awesome video. Is the camera that small or do you have really big hands, or was it the angle and the type of lens used that gave that perception?
Thanks for the video. I believe evf refresh rate can be 100 without the extended grip with boost mode on the camera body alone. And couldnt you also charge the battery in the main body via usb cable (sold separately) while charging the two batteries in the extended grip with the provided cable?
You can use the boost mode without the grip but you won't get the extra FPS. Battery life doesn't seem much worse by enabling it!
fantastic intro and choice on music.
