    I totally agree with you on the exterior paint jobs, I think they're awful and don't understand why they insist on using them. How long do you guys plan on keeping this RV, until you find something you like better?

  • @scottr3205

    I always wonder why RV companies insist on the "Moose Tagged" exterior stripe package. I really love the look of the now long extinct Vixen RVs that would often feature solid exterior colors and still look more modern compared to many RVs rolling off the line today.

    I quite like the obnoxious paint jobs lol. I saw one 5th wheel at a park recently with the typical swoops and bright colors and the guy had continued that design onto his F350 tow vehicle. Looked kind of cool.

    You guys have me listening for places to say "that's what she said." Seriously, I love your videos and look forward to seeing what you do next. I originally started with some of the later RV videos and watched all the sailing videos. I'm going back to see everything I missed. I was surprised with the blond hair. :-) I wish you both the best.

    Excellent observations about overall design. Sooner or later these RV manufacturers have got to start taking queues from modern architecture and interior design trends.
    We looked long an hard before deciding on the travel trailer that would fit our budget and our driveway, and also offered the best interior layout for our lifestyle. We decided on the Keystone Passport Elite 23RB. Overall, quite nice for our first new RV purchase. We'll keep an eye out for a possible upgrade in the not too distant future.
    I really appreciate all the care you put into your video production, and all the solid information you present.

    The engine break is called a jake break from the explanation I got from an old family friend who has driven truck for a long time and works on them is that it simply forces the motor to slow down by putting greater pressure in the valve train of the engine.

      Ryan Lambert Jake Brake, Engine Brake, Engine retarder, they are called different things and some work differently than others.

    • @duracellgee
      @duracellgee 8 років тому +1

      +Gone with the Wynns The "jake brake" was introduced to the world in the 1960's by the Jacobs Manufacturing Company and has been the truck drivers choice of engine brake ever since. Most common on Cummins engines it is far simpler and more reliable than the Telma(magnetic) and inbuilt transmission type retarders. Definitely would sway me when looking at an RV.

    Excellent review, many thanks! I also dislike the hideous decor of American RVs designed in Middle America. Too bad they don't take some design tips from Airstream, or Euro RVs, and some ergonomic tips from Japanese and German RVs for compact design. I remodeled my first RV - a 1997 Class C 22 ft Tioga which I presently have. This was my trial one. My next one is going to be a Class A and your reviews are super helpful to decide the features I will need and want. You have both done a great service to RV'ers!!!

    can not agree more with graphic comment. give the choice of one solid color. combo washer/dryers sound great but it SEEMS they would drain a battery bank pretty good. could aftermarket window tint solve the day shade dilemma? in the end, no matter the materials used in an rv, they all start to head south as soon as the bumper-to-bumper warranty expires. investing in some DIY repair and basic/intermediate electrical classes will prove very valuable over time. i could mention more but that's enough.

      For all of us who lament the interior and exterior design of U.S. RV's, take a look at some of the European ones. Clean, classic lines, simple elegant interiors and no exterior embellishment. You'd think at least one American manufacturer would develop a line in this style.

      I think the U.S. wins in terms of size, power and amenities though. Euro models have beautiful interiors (or can have) but they don't have slides, large tanks, large sizes etc. In fact most rv places there (from what I've heard) don't even have full hook ups. Depend on the type of rving you want to do though, I guess.

    • @BigBendBroncos
      @BigBendBroncos 10 років тому +1

      I couldn't agree more, the interiors are just ugly. We just bought a new travel trailer and had to completely strip out the interior and start from scratch. I hated to get rid of all the brand new stuff but I just couldn't stand to look at it.

  • @roryroberts3787

    I will never understand why many people will choose a RV off the lot with a traditional decor, and a "full body" paint job and complain about not having a choice... Don't let the salesman talk you into buying off the lot and order one with interior decor and exterior paint the way you want it.........

    I was wondering about some of the mechanical specs of your coach. For example, holding tank capacities, fuel mileage, propane capacity, etc.
    Had a 24 ft class C which I enjoyed immensely, but knew it wasn't large enough for full-timing. Congrats to you two. I was told by a number of full-timers that 33-35 ft is a reasonable length for travels around the country.

    I've been following your vids for a while and you give such excellent advice. Sometimes it's too easy as a viewer to say something off the cuff like "oh just do this, or that" which doesn't take into account how much work or the cost involved in fixing a given issue.
    I do think the interior is a little dark and would spend time like I'm sure you have trying to lighten the place up or even paint darker areas the won't impact resale. But like you say - it's also a stunning interior!
    The awning is a great an vital piece of information!!! And I would really find that frustrating beyond belief. I would worry about the aero dynamics though - you're driving something with the aero dynamics of a Pizza Hut in the first place ;)
    But vital info nonetheless for when I get to purchasing my own - thank you :)

    Thank you for sharing. We are in the market for a coach and have been shopping around for a while and it seems the majority of rvs are designed for a certain demographic. There is nothing out there for us folks who are NOT interested in traditional (tacky exterior graphics and interiors) When you invest in something like this you should be able to not cringe every time you come home.

  • @AW4WAL
    @AW4WAL 10 років тому

    I have been researching an RV for a few years now and as someone with a design background, it's all very...very sad; So, it's good to see that there are people who hates the tacky designs as much as I do. I've honestly concluded that these RV's aren't designed by professional designers, that studied at reputable & accredited schools of design, who doesn't suffer, horror vacui. They're either designing in a vacuum or incapable of drawing inspiration from outside their industry or country.
    Across the board, the designs are generally the same; terrible colors, wood-look, appliances, switch-gear (seemingly, all sourced from the same place) and not to mention exterior color choices and designs. It's actually funny to watch videos of manufacturers as they all say without exception, that they're doing/bringing something no other manufacturer is offering, so funny: who is their market research focused on? It doesn't seem like contemporary design style exist in Indiana or wherever else they are.
    Are European motorhomes better, not really; they're mostly shoe-boxes on wheels, doesn't offer anywhere near the equipment, Grossly Over Priced and finally the worst, because of weight restrictions, they have cassette toilets. However, there are a few that stand out with their interiors, STX Motorhomes and Ketterer travel motorhomes; these however are at the top end but ideas can be learnt from them.

    Wonderful share!!! Thanks for taking the time to put together a very helpful video for new RV pursuers. The Excursion is on our consideration list. I would like to store kayaks on the roof. I would need roof racks installed from front to back along the outside edges of the roof. Is that possible? The Excursion roof height states 11'10". Other larger RV's are pushing 13'. What is a safe roof height to remove most under pass concerns since we would be raising the 11'10" to 13'6" approximately?

    • @jerryjenkins4755

      JazzTree78 All black would not only attract the sun, every single little ding would stand out like a beacon. Seen a few that had a nearly all black paint scheme that looked bad because of this. You don't want to see one after hail has got ahold of one.
      All white gets dirty just looking at it. Plus an all white Class A RV looks like a rolling refrigerator. Just look at an old FEMA trailer to see how ugly all-white is.
      Problem is RV makers seem to think the costlier the rig, the gaudier the exterior so that others know the rig is fancy.

    I will never understand, the longest day I live,what the thought process is behind all the ugly, tacky fabrics in nearly all motorhomes. (yesteryear AND today) They manage to throw them in the seating, valances and everywhere else they can think of. Some are getting wiser and not covering all the seats in new ones, but they are still managing to sneak it in elsewhere. I have been spending approx 4 hours a day trying to find the right "one" for me and the interior design is really pitiful in most of them. would LOVE to know why?

    • @waterwomyn

    only one thing wrong with your rv its name Fleetwood get better product if you would have look at tiffin

      obelix269 I realize you may love your Tiffin but from our recent experience at the factory we know Fleetwood is overbuilding their RVs in comparison to the majority of the market, so a blanket statement saying Fleetwood is not good and Tiffin is the best is just not true.

      Fleetwood will always fail before any other brand be it tiffin Newmar or navastar brands

    Are you going to get a new RV to fix all of the dislikes?

    • @gonewiththewynns

      lidsman2221 These little dislikes are nothing in the grand scheme of things and most can be fixed fairly inexpensively. If you want to read more: www.gonewiththewynns.com/good-bad-inbetween-fleetwood-excursion

    The problem is the manufacturer; Fleetwood=junk. Buy a hi quality used and get the factory to go over it. Better engineering and build. Chevy vs Lexus.

    Dislikes; why did you even buy it?

      Publishing "Dislikes" can be very useful to RV newbies. We have owned 5 motorhomes and none of them were perfect. Published dislikes can possibly get back to the manufacturers so that, hopefully, they change them on new models.
      There is no such thing as the "perfect" motorhome, but they are still lots of fun.

    You both make me laugh - Hell you bought it - you review RV's... why complain about stuff that you bought... your videos are biased and actually untrusted.
