@@phillipmarlowe0525 You got me intrested in this, so I made a little digging. This is, what Wikipedia shows: The three-section staff was brought to Okinawa from Fujian Province by Shinko Matayoshi, who incorporated it in Matayoshi Kobudo with two kata (sansetsukon dai ichi, sansetsukon dai ni) after 1935. Kobudo sansetsukon typically have shorter (usually 50-60 centimetres (20-24 in)) yet thicker (about 4-5 centimetres (1.6-2.0 in) in diameter) staves. So You're right, this weapon is pretty new to Kobudo
I started my martial arts training in 1962. Studied Okinawan Karate which was more eclectic. We not have the three sectional staff. I learned that when I started Chinese martial arts in 1970.
@@phillipmarlowe0525 so You got my true respect, Sensei! And I can only learn from You. In fact, I'm trying to learn about Okinawan Karate as much as I can to better understand the katas and Karate application for self-defence. It is little hard to me cause I have to switch my thinking from 4 years of Shotokan (mostly sport) Karate to Okinawan Shorin Ryu Karate teached by Sensei Kenyu Chinen (RIP). I'm only 2 years in Shorin Ryu today, so pls bare with me. And right now it kicks in my mind - aren't You on the FB with others Okinawan Shorin Ryu Masters?😉
I like the demo. What style of shorinry?
My goodness I wish I was at this demo. This is AWESOME
Mr Miagi would be proud 😊
WoW nice...
Super!🤩
Since when does Okinawan Karate use the three sectional staff?? That is purely a Chinese weapon. Not in traditional Okinawan Kobudo.
I think it is since the beggining. It is because Okinawan Karate was born out of Chinese Kung-Fu. So they adapted Chinese weapons.
This group may have. True Okinawan kobudo has no three sectional staff. Give off the impression they not legit
