I totally agree with the angst when changing days in this game. I’m set up well and then everything’s changed and I have to slowly move my army around again
I had changes оf days оr scenes at the wоrst mоment pоssible several times: 1. Shilоh. I kept my initial pоsitiоns and managed tо flank the Rebs at their left. The next step was rоlling up the frоnt while hоlding Breckinridge's charge at my left. Did the game let me encircle and wipe оut/capture the fоrmer VP? Nah, it threw me at Pittsburg landing a minute befоre I'd dо that! Why wоuld Grant retreat in such circumstances is beyоnd my understanding. 2. Fredericksburg. I'm flanking Jacksоn, Stuart lоst all his cav tо my arty, we're extremely gооd... And nоw it's time tо zerg rush Marye's Heghts. May I ask why is it the time? I've grabbed Jacksоn by his beard but can't finish him оff right nоw? The stupidity оf the Heights sequence itself is insane. 3. Stоnes River. I've flanked Pоlk at the sоuth, wiped оut his arty, nearly rоlled up the frоnt... Yes, time fоr a secnd day when I shоuld defend against an army which size was a third оf mine at the very best. Mind-bоggling. 4. Here, at freaking Chancellоrsville. I nearly captured the bоth оbjectives befоre... the game threw me back at my camp tо defend. I just raged. If the devs decide tо make anоther Ultimate General game - which I'd like tо see - they shоuld definitely make a smооther change оf days. It's just crude here.
3 things I would to add to this game. 1. Ability to rotate the camera 2. Recap of battles, with unit lines, etc. 3. Ability to look over the battlefield after a fight, and see stats of various points. IE Devil's Den. See the dead, artillery holes, horses etc.
Sorry you and your family are sick . . . hopefully everyone will get better soon. Overall not a bad battle . . . you got a bit distracted and let some things get out of hand. Forgetting your cavalry and not finishing the infantry attack on the right flank against all his batteries. You left my poor Trengilly Titans sitting in the open to take canister fire for the better part of an hour but I'm proud to say they didn't rout! It would also have reduced casualties to break off skirmishers when attacking that artillery. Salem Church is a rough one . . . so outnumbered. But Gettysburg should be a cakewalk.
Loved the way you rode your cavalry right past 4 (5?) batteries of artillery all closed up together and 2 supply wagons to go chase a single battery way down south. If you had smashed into the vacant backs of those 4 or 5 batteries the enemy infantry would have had a choice as to why side to face. In the confusion you could have advanced your whole left infantry flank and trapped half his army between the infantry and cavalry - then rolled up the centre.
Your plan kinda sounds similar to when I was in Nashville Pike, what I did was I had my green units attempt to wear out the rebels as much as possible going into the next phase, and i made my best units charge into the artillery hills making Arty useless, by the time the final phase came around there was barely any rebel units left so I just sat there watching your vids which has helped me! Edit: Keep up the good work History guy! Your videos have helped me with certain games!
On day 2 you have until 22:15 after the finish button pops up. The more damage you can inflict while in your chosen positions the easier day 3 will be. Running your closer units or sending detached skirmishers to slow up the AI on day 3 so you can get back to where you want to defend from can help a lot as well.
wow what a battle that was something to watch good luck on the next battle your going to need it hope you can wipeout bunch of his units to even the odds alittle bit
You should establish your west flank east of the objective, let them take it initially and retake it after you decimate them in the open. Your MLR should be in the treeline paralleling the road. You could also use an advance picket line in the trees just to the west (where the bulk of the fighting is here) to slow them down and tire them out before hitting the MLR. Your cavalry can then be used in the rear on targets of opportunity.
I dont know which impresses me.Jackson's simulated flank attack or the way you just respond without losing your cool. However the a.i. also respond well too. Man your poor cavalry one of them got nearly wiped out. Lesson learned I guess never get reckless or greedy with your cav.
I have followed your UGCW battles with much interest. I don't know when the last time was that you fought these battles but I daresay that the game updates since you played 7 years ago have made it much more difficult. Perhaps you might revisit the MG or Legendary level and see for yourself? Enjoy your videos!
nice battle but savage on the last day. You may have been able to take more of his out by playing after the timer on Day 2 and not finishing when you were in good defensive positions. I think also rushing to the woods on your right let him pile up on you and melee. you could have held up in the Chancellor farm area and massed all your guns there and he would have had no chance at displodging you. Salem Church is never fun as the Union but I usually just send everyone around the south and rush into the woods and just hold on for dear life until the timer runs out. The reinforcements coming from the south are hard to deal with if you aren't firmly in those woods.
Nice battle .. Yest . the repositioning of units and army is so insanely frustrating .......... when you are done with this campaign, i would love to watch you start up a fresh one BUT with the total rebalancing mod installed... holy s........ it is now a whole new game.. brilliant ... im not Pandacraut or something compass, which are 2 of the best players i have watched playing , and the rebal mod, totally blew my mind... i had to rethink EVERYTHING.. and i struggled for a long long time , but omg that mod is more than ok
You handled the battle beautifully, even with the incredibly brutal counterattack phase, in what is, in my opinion, one of the most bullshit stupid battles of the Union campaign
The first day is so friggin' confusing. I don't have enough men to attack or hold either enemy position. Should I just hold the farm instead considering the AI has too many troops holding the place? (Playing on Colonel difficulty because it's my first run)
Um? How did you win without taking the other two objectives? When I played I had to hold all three to win. Holding only the US camp only got me a drwa.
I wonder who commands Army of the Potomac at Chancellorsville in this game's lore. The campaign follows the real events - but the Civil War becomes way different due to different outcomes and Generals' appointments. 1. After Shiloh I got Grant for free. Who's left in charge of Army of the Tennesse then? Who' would take Vicksburg and later steamroll the Western theater? It couldn't be Sherman because I had him as another Corps Commander. McPherson? Thomas? I don't know. 2. After Malvern Hill I've got McClellan for free. So he didn't command the Army of the Potomac at Antietam. I was getting worried... 3. At 2nd Bull Run the initial Pope's plan (to defeat Jackson before Longstreet would come) actually worked. So Pope wasn't humiliated and thrown out to Dakota. I think he kept the job at least for Maryland Campaign - including Antietam. Funny enough, he didn't blunder there too! 4. Now I'm tired of Pope - and he clearly was not THAT stable. Okay, let's say he stepped down after Maryland Campaign due to multiple conflicts with his officers an was sent to the Western theater where he became a good Corps commander. Then we have two options for Fredericksburg: Ambrose Burnside or Joe Hooker. And if Union wins at Fredericksburg there is no reason to replace the command! So I guess we have Burnside, Hooker or even Pope as possible commanders at Chancellorsville. I'd prefer the first option.
Where he is talking about it reposition you for the next day happens on all major battles that go over 1 day, i think there’s like 2 battles at the very beginning thag don’t do this.

the abiliy to type number to replenish troops instead of the slider and rapid clicking.
Damn yo half the time playing the game is that stupid slider haha

I'm gonna add to my Cavalry Corps before Gettysburg. I wanna get 6 or 7 units to descend like locusts on their prey.

Man, that turned ugly quick when phase 3 hit.

a game were retreating artillery moves faster then attacking cavalry
He exhausted his cavalry.
wow christopher mowery😍

Huh. I got to phase four and took the roads, as well as Salem Church
