Thank you for reminding people about the original purpose of dog shows. You are spot on. Dog shows now are frequently handling and/or training and/or grooming competitions.
Great point! I feel that the fundamental reason of dog shows has been ignored by the majority. Thats too bad! In fact, there are a number of successful show dogs out there that would NOT be good breeding stock. My personal opinion is that health clearances should be presented before a dog is even allowed in the breed ring. Of course this means we cannot finish a dog before it is 2 years old but is that so terrible? I am sure this is a very unpopular idea but perhaps we could improve genetics if this suggestion were to be considered.

I like to refer to it as having my dogs peer reviewed but I also have really nice dogs who could never show because they are just incapable of standing for show.

Some of the most sound CKCS I have ever seen never made it into the show ring. Instead we see these poofy ears, jowls, and heads that are so overdone. Are they reading the same standard that I memorized?
And don't even get me started on cavalier health and those who don't health test.......or do minimal testing.
