- These are useful is many satiations in general and they do not damage surfaces, there are fabric type wrenches that Ridgid popularized and there is the synthetic version made buy Grip-It.
I don't use a strap wrench the way you use it. Instead of the corner pinching the belt, I get the flat against the belt. The flat side on my craftsman strap wrench has texturing to keep the belt from slipping. When you use the corner, there is hardly any surface area to keep the strap from slipping.
I have sometimes been able to use strips of rubber (old inner tube) wrapped around metal pipe and use the strap wrench around the rubber wrapped item to avoid slippage. Other times go ahead with a pipe wrench, channel locks or chain wrench. Sometimes the strap wrenches work pretty good, other times they just look nice hanging on the wall.
Ye I go for these only if I don't want to mar the finish on the pipe
I have the PITTSBURGH PRO set.. and a nice OTC long nylon strap with 12" aluminum handle ...they all work well...sometimes you don't need the OTC and all that strap..the rubbstrap PITTSBURGH Pro does pretty good...thanks BIG CAT 🐈
I think you are tightening it.You torque it even more tighter that when you reverse the wrench it would not budge.
I have the large Klein and it has been more useful than not.
That was great--you're saying what a good tool it is, and it just won't work!
Reminded me of the time, many moons ago, when Dan Aykroyd dressed up as Julia Childs on Saturday Night Live to cook some French food. She cuts her finger badly, and then carries on chatting merrily while blood sprays all over the place till the floor gets slippery. Good stuff.

Desiree, "you got to be."
Its a song.
To lift my spirits.
You are using them wrong. You should use the entire surface area of the wrench to apply force.
These are not great for taking off oil and fuel filters, constantly slips
