    A trick I learned from White Details is dry the brakes by using them straight after the wash. To minimise the rust forming.

    I use a blower to get the majority of water off immedaitely, finish the clean and if needed then drive 50m holding the brake very very lightly which is plenty to remove any that has formed since. Love BH products just not had a need for this but i can see it pairing well with their cavity wax etc. and underneath project, maybe when i get round to doing that. Great video. I love the simple dilution help and just giving the qtys of each - really easy to ref so thanks for those and easy to scale up. Can highly recommend a tank of de-ionised/distilled water, about 20 quid off ebay/amazon and WAY cheaper than buying it in smaller bottles. I learnt to use for any dilutions I need to make so only ever use small amounts. It's lasted me about two years and im somewhere near the bottom now. Add a tap for a fiver, it's great.

    An excellent and very thorough video Heather. I've never used Atom Mac but I am definitely going to buy some. I have always used the Jim White method, ie after doing the wheels and generally before doing the bodywork, drive the car up and down your road applying the brakes to almost a standstill maybe half a dozen times, the heat generated dries off the discs and hence no rust can form. it works but you obviously have to be careful not to get the discs wet again once you have done it!

      @@AutoCareHQ indeed BH does so many great stuff preventing dust. Another product came into my mind that has been made for similar cause: Hyde’s Serum Rustopper. An American brand, but as far as I seen it’s dedicated for brake discs only, but I can be wrong here due the lack of research I have done in this subject yet. Been using this for quite a while now Heather, annoying to get a layer of red dust on black drums, it does work. One thing I’ve tried which I don’t think you covered was a final quick spray after rinsing, then blow dry the disc and calliper first before the alloy, leaves like a bluey / yellow type of tarnish which does not appear on the drums. Another is knocking up some wheel covers to protect those dry wheels / discs before the main wash. [ hoping one of the car accessory units will come up with some kind of drum / disc umbrella which could be put in place prior to getting wet.] Forgot, one other thing, long term you'll see the cast drum between the polished disc and the stud face clean up back more to a factory finish as oppose to a band of rust.

    Great Review and demonstration, like others have mentioned I also drive up and down my street a couple of times to remove the rust however like you mentioned it deposits all the orange dust onto the wheel barrel so anything that reduces that is a win in my book, also seems like a great product to apply on the underside for winter. Im deffo picking some up. something is better than nothing.

  • @au18ert
    @au18ert 11 місяців тому

    I think people are missing the point by saying just drive up the road after cleaning. The overspray is probably as beneficial as what goes in the disc. Its great especially on EVs that dont use their brakes very often.
    Brake dust is a pollutant that we should all try to minimise. The iron in the rotor becomes a pollutant quicker because of the oxidation..
    If you find its not working as well as you hope increase the dilution. I use it at 10 percent as i drive an EV..

I did both cars at once this weekend.....(been using Touchless but this came to hand instead) as instead of using a fresh batch I just topped the bottle off as I didn't use all of oit last time. By doing that the concentration of the foam was way too high so a thin soap film (looks greasy) is left on every panel. My weedy pressure washer certainly couldn't get it off. I had to contact wash it with clean water gently until it comes off. I'm guessing a citrus prewash would have done it as well but I didn't have any! Perhaps use less product and see if that helps?

      @@Dkcode Thanks Dan, Sounds a plan. Everything i have used of BH, has worked well so my gut tells me this is the way. Given the Navaras reputation for chassis rot its essential i get it protected before the first salt goes down! Like the idea of atom mac in a sprayer to neutralise too. I have had a few Navaras, they are a great truck if they are looked after properly. All my others were over 5 years old before i got them and the rot had already set in, so this time i hope to stop it before it starts!

      @@coletorrens1121 BH began but creating rust and corrosion inhibiting products. So all of their products will have inhibitors in them to stop and prevent any build up. The best time to do these treatments is obviously before the need requires them as with rust, it's a fighting battle once it sets in.

    Hi Heather, thanks for another great video, after spraying the discs with Atom Mac does it tend to run off and pool at bottom of the wheel barrel?

      Nope it just evaporates pretty quick and doesn’t tend to run off much really unless you spray absolutely loads. It didn’t leave any water marks as well when using distilled water

      @@AutoCareHQ thanks for the reply Heather, I didn't realise it evaporated. It looks like I need to order some.

    Do you rinse off after or leave it get dry?

    Chinese disc they rust faster, the motor factor being the problem as they import lots of low grade products or car parts
