Almost made me tear up seeing how hearing it fire up for the first time in decades made him feel, such an awesome gesture on your part man, you’re a good man. 👍🏻
It's great to see youngsters like you involved in keeping these old girls alive. Too many kids your age are into 4 door imports and think they've REALLY got something special, when in reality, they don't have a CLUE.......ARGH!!!
Awww, when it fired up his reaction was priceless. A man that put his dream aside for his country, family and livelihood to have it loved back to it's prime. Thank you.
Thank you Charles for your service to our country and your love for hot rodding and to the awesome son in law you have, also the others for their time to help bring this story and awesome car back to life for all the world to enjoy.
This story made my day! Charles did the right thing by entrusting this important part of his life to you. You honored him and what was important in his life. I don't know you, but son, you are an old sole to understand the value of this car in his life. You didn't chop it up, or sell it once you got it running to make a quick buck, you did the right thing. My hat is off to you sir! Enjoy this car forever.
Out of all the stories you've done, it's the ones with personal meaning to you, and with family, that really connects with us....because that's what a hot rod is.....it's family.
I know the feeling. I started saving for my first car at the age of 13 with my paper route. At the age of 15 (1967) I found a running '55 Ford for $85.00, bought it and during the next year (until I was 16 and able to drive) I had time to dress it up with new metallic paint job, new interior and a set of chrome wheels. It was the nicest '55 Ford around and I got lots of compliments driving it around.
I don't know who had the better facial expression your little lady or Charlie! Another great story! Keep them coming as I love each and every one of them!
That is a awesome car awesome story this needs millions of Views as alot of people need to hear this story so they can see how a man should conduct himself great job man GREAT JOB
Wow what a great story indeed! Who the hell would give this a thumbs down? Thank you for your service Charles! Well done on getting that rod back on the road!!
Bought an old 56 stepwise p up. Went in the NAVY. On news years every I was busted for jaywalking in San Diego. $300 fine.Thrown in jail. To stay outta trouble my dad wired the$ I asked where the$ came from."I sold your truck." Fair enough.it had a 292 stroker in it!
I am a major fan of vice grip garage but I really do like you and your site. No gang banger hats and long freaky hair, no nose rings and just dirty greasy fingers. Love it!
I just seen this video! I bet Herman was smiling ear to ear driving down the road. I seen that car in the basement and thought "WOW"!!! Im glad you guys got it out and running again. Its a true hotrod that you dont find or see alot of.
What a GREAT job you did to pay tribute to your father in law and a classic old hot rod. What a nice thing you and your friends did and thanks for sharing the story.
Can’t figure out who would give thumbs down rating for such a beautiful story and sweet old school gasser. This is how it was when I was growing up. One day and one part at a time. Great story behind a sweet car. I can imagine what it was like to drive that beast. I had a good laugh when you were talking about opening her up and trying to keep it together. That’s what it’s all about.
That’s a great story . Thanks for keeping Charles involved in being able to enjoy a life time passion of his . Your truly a great guy . Nice ride by the way
Great story & rebirth of a Labor of Love for Charles. The last 2 mins of the video say it all. You are bringing your daughter up to appreciate cars, hot rods & all of the work & love put into them. Stay Real.
PlyMaLinkCheFord... Well done! I understand the tears of joy. Sometimes I shed them when I crank up some of my barn cars and exercise them. I even have my Dad's old propane trucks... I love them all and every rattle and sound. Yes, each one of my old tractors, trucks, pickups, and cars; I know what they are doing before they do it. Drive straight as an arrow, like I drove it in its day. Take care from Oklahoma, Mike and Vee
Curious, how many of can what I called the hot rod? To give you a hint, it was a straight axle Ford 1/2 ton with a Chevy motor, Buick 200R4, Dodge van locker rear, and said van's gas tank in the back of the bed. We called her the "MopaCheBuFord". She would pull the front up on the street. At a prepped track, we had to use welded up garbage dumpster wheels on the rear bumper. LoL, what we used to do with one man's junk.
Great story, Great Memories. So cool that Charles began the build so so long ago. Y'all are very lucky! We'll check back on the car in 40 more years👍👍👍
As an old street rodder, thank you from the bottom of my heart, yeah it did make me tear up a bit, best u-tube i have seen all year. thanks again, jim in boston
Great video, great story. You should be very proud of yourself and I know you are grateful for the opportunity that your father in law let you take over the keys to his dreams. You made him proud. You are a good man. And you will be blessed if you aren't already
Although, I live in the UK. I've always had a soft spot for classic American, hot rods,I love the story behind this car. Amazing looking/sounding. Old skool is the best school.
This is such a great story. The reaction from Charles when you fired her up is priceless. Hearing that hot rod come to life is like hearing an old friends voice again. Happy motoring, Charles!
I think this is a big part of why people love old hot rods. It's not just a bunch of metal, there's a human connection and a human history to all of them, as much about the people who build them as it is about the car. It was very touching to see your father in law's reaction to hearing his old car fire up again. I imagine how he must've felt when he first came back from war. The car that had waited for him, that his parents kept for his safe return, must've been a great help in adjusting back to civilian life again.
Yes, I would imagine having this car (and his '63 Impala) waiting for him at home was a huge help. But he has expressed how tough it was to come back home to a not-so warm welcome by the general public. Those guys had it rough and didn't receive the recognition they deserved.
It is exactly what we used to build in the '60's and it's great you have done this not only for your self but the original builder. Very nice story and yes, you're a good man! Many more stories for that ol' pc a junk (kidding) to tell. Maybe your grand kids will surprise you with someday!
That's an amazing thing you did for your father now. Good job young man. I played this video for all my friends while we were hanging out in the garage over here in Orange County California and they loved it. We're all sending you a big California shout out, keep up the good work.
Such a cool video and story. To see that guy get emotional was awesome. You brought some joy back to an old hot rodder. I prefer the old school "Hold on and pray" hot rods over the big $ hot rods of today.
You did phenomenal work my friend, this car is obviously in good hands. Absolutely beautiful, I'm glad he hung on to it and I'm glad you were able to get it back on the road
Bless you.. What a son in law. This is a awesome story and what you did for him is just great. Plus you gave everyone credit .. Just awesome. Hope my girls find men like you...
I just watched the hidden in the basement for 30 years. Boy when Charles heard you fire that thing up and the emotion that came from him made me cry. Just last Friday I acquired my best friend"s 87 Grand Prix. it's been sitting for 5 years and the garage. It's going to need some love. Him and I was building it before he got heart disease and didn't recover from the surgery. It was his dream car. A lifetime diabetic he was. And one of the best men I have ever had beside me. But I can feel that emotion for something that a lot of people don't understand and will never get. Rock on my brother. Keep that beautiful car between the ditches. From PA to Georgia with love
That was one of those kool, fun, wish I was there times. Very nice, put together ver nice, lots of information. Good job sharing the history of life and all the turns and little things that get tucked away for later. Sometimes there is a need of another hand to make it all happen. IF you ever want to work on a 58 Chev Brookwood wagon, please ket me know. Have one waiting, also a yeoman 2 dr. Very good job showing history. THANK YOU Charles for your service..
Another great video. I just love the car and the story. Seeing Charles reaction was priceless. I starting building my hot rod in 1999 and I am still working on it, This spring , I was able to drive it around the yard. Keep up the good work . Thank you Ray Olson 69 year old hot rodder
Great story on this cool old hot rod. I also own a old hot rod that was a drag car in the 60s, and can relate to the emotions felt here. Your a good man for giving this car some well deserved love. Congrats.
What a great story! It reminds me of my 36 Dodge 5 window coupe when I was 16..couldn’t afford to paint it..it was primer green and I loved it! Thank-you!
Brought a tear to my eye! Thanks for saving one! Sure wish a had one of my grandpa's. He had lots but the state made my mom clean them up when I was real young. Great family story man, thanks for sharing!
One of my favorite resurrected hot rods. Keeping it looking as correct as built got my attention. Most people have to change all kinds of things and ruin them, so I usually cruise right past so called barn finds. I really congratulate you for keeping it real.
Dam nit you did it again.....seeing Charles break down had a domino affect here. Its the simple things like this that have the greatest impact on good people. I wish nothing but good things for your great dad for raising a great son.
Great story! And you and your dad are golden for getting this little hot rod back on the road for your paw-in-law! The scene when you surprised him by starting it up was priceless. Great memories are made like this!
Great video!!!! Thanks for sharing!!! That is what hot rodding is all about. Making the most of those extra parts you have laying around the garage. That somehow makes your hot rod safer and faster. Then sharing your craftsmanship with your friends and family.
Nothing beats old school. Real cars, real character. Awesome job!

Man when you fired it up...your father in laws reaction was just beautiful
That's why I love the hot rod community because we help each other out. Beautiful story, god bless y'all
This story made my day!
Exactly what hot rodding is suppose to be! ❤️
When he heard that car crank, that made his heart happy also made my heart happy, just seeing a vet happy. Thank you Charles for your service.
Out of all the stories you've done, it's the ones with personal meaning to you, and with family, that really connects with us....because that's what a hot rod is.....it's family.

It was a pretty great moment! The whole experience has been awesome. I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.
Front end needs panhard bar like you got on the rearend. Eliminates unwanted bump steer. It was the same problem I had when I built my hot rod.
Had to watch this video again, God Bless you for what you did for your father in law....be safe!! God Bless!!!!!
Thank you Michael!
That is so cool, and now you get to take your kid for a spin in it too. That’s livin mate. Cheers from Downunder
Great video!!!! Thanks for sharing!!! That is what hot rodding is all about. Making the most of those extra parts you have laying around the garage. That somehow makes your hot rod safer and faster. Then sharing your craftsmanship with your friends and family.
Thanks John!
