This is a 2x2 porcelain mosaic for a shower. Smaller tiles (6x6 or less) are typically used for showers with a drain in the center. However, you can use any size tile (with correct DCOF-Dynamic Cofficent of Friction rating-slip resistance) when using a linear drain system. Linear drains are set where floor tile meets wall tile (an edge)
That's why I prefer round drains so you can adjust the height. Also a square drain can dictate your lay out. And if for some reason later you need to back out the drain you can't. It won't back out, its locked in. Just my 2 cents
You can adjust the height on the square drains as well because it sits on top of the Spud and you just turn it till it's the right height plus the cut time takes a lot less time than a round drain
@@michaelbourg2281 , that would be the. Kerdi system ??? I understand that type but the Otey, pvc screw in type would and could lock you in. I can cut the round drains just as easy, I've been doing tile for over 35 year's. Old timer.lol
Good job1 Thank for video! From Kosago Vietnam with love!
Wow, my staff from Kosago :D
I agree with others about floor first, then walls. I have never and will never run my floor tiles up to my wall tiles, I just hate that detail, as i have seen way to many separate and crack, plus it just looks better regardless of 2 little cuts on the drain....
It's also more waterproof to do floor first and then lap it with the wall tile. I always put a bead of silicone (same color as grout) at the base as well.
Nice job Rambo
Love the video.. i got a same one like that walk in shower but ill like to put down that same tile.. but what will I need and how to remove the tile thats there already?
Tile the walls first, but leave the bottom off, then set the floor tile in, then cut the bottom row of tiles in on top of the mosaic floor tile
Yoo ur crazy bro aha
Only if you want to do things the right way. The easiest is not always the right way
Always leave bottom row off wall tile and install after 👍 Just did one yesterday and always turns out awesome and clean looking
@@gunslinga7077 he's not crazy at all. In the video, Mike was replacing floor tile, but if he was tiling the wall too, he would have done the floor first and then lapped it with the wall tile.
@@CPT-Blacktooth Yep. I put a ledger up and stack my first row right above the skirt row. I mortar in that first row, the floor, the floor tiles on the outer edge of the curb, and the curb with one batch of thin-set. Then I let all that cure and put some plastic down on the pan and curb to protect it while I finish the rest of the wall. It's so much easier and you don't have to worry as much about dropping thin-set. The last part should always be the skirting. Cut your skirt pieces to fit, put a bead of silicone at the edge and then back butter the last final pieces. Viola.
Nice work. Well thought out. I learned more. I was looking for exactly how high to set the drain. Looks like you went for even with tile . I am going for slightly lower. I used WEDI . Thanks for taking the time to do the video short and to the point not like some other Starry Guys.
Floor first then walls. And should used 1/4 notched trial and directional trialing
Do you flatten out the notch after like in the video or do you set on top of notch?
Is that wall board going down below the mortar pan? If so not good. Those wall tile should be set on top of the floor tile, not other way around.
How do you know that and what is the reasoning behind it?
@@nevinkuser9892 Any wall board, even cement board, will wick moisture upwards. That will cause mold.and other issues.
The.wall board must not touch the pan mortar. Leave gap, and only wall tile will come down to meet floor tile, then seal the interface.. Look it up on UA-cam.
Because if there is cracks water goes under tile not on top of it
@@nevinkuser9892 It's simple lapping. Think about the physics of the water. It's coming down the wall and dropping on top of the floor tile instead of on a joint. If that joint fails, water will leak under the tile and the system will fail.
which mortar did you use and where do I buy it and can it withstand the water? Thank you
Im doing my shower like this one !!❤😊
or could just use a 1/8' V notch trowel.
Thank you man for this video and good luck
should have laid shower floor tile first then wall tile. Positive water flow!

Always wall tile over the floor tile this is bad
Nice work
The gap on the left side is killing me 😭
That pan is going to fail. Yo want your wall tiles to sit on your floor. Let your pitch and gravity work for you. With your floor tile butting up to the wall. When the grout lines eventually crack or fail the water will run down under your floor tile.
Besides, grout is not waterproof or vapor-proof. Grout is not waterproofing.
🖐...question....why are you laying floor tile AFTER wall tile.....I've never seen anyone do that unless you're not a tile guy 🤔
How do you do that if replacing floor tiles only?
If u dont want thinset coming threw the joints then just use a proper sized trowel...
I like to use a 3/16 inch notch trowell with quarter-inch Mosaic and that gives me sufficient mortar coverage over my substrate and the back of the tile if I use a small v-notch mosaics have a tendency not to have good coverage and break loose.
This method is widely used by pros all over the country

there would be something to learn, why does a person who is not in this profession make mosaics?
Should do floor first and red guard your pan
The size of1 layer
Good stuff
Tile slips under wall 1/8". I hold tile off mortar bed 5/16 off bed.
Layout would not allow any additional distance under tile at wall and maitain full tile management.
Never had a failed system since 1986
shouldnt you tile the bottom of the wall after the floor?
Nice thank ypu sir .
No troweling?
And that floor isn’t tanked also
I thought u was Sylvester Stallone 😆
😂
wall tiles should be on ground tiles
Thanks
Personally, I don’t consider 2” x 2” (12x12 mat sheets) that are mostly mono-solid color and non patterned / non imaged tile “mosaic”.
In the tile world, a mosaic is defined as an inlay design pattern with tiles smaller than 2×2”. Individual mosaic patterns vary greatly, featuring a multitude of different materials, colors, and tile shapes. Popular materials include glass, natural stone, metal, and porcelain. *Google 2017*
Gomer pyler the ceramic tiler
Maybe he pulled up his old tile and replaced with what you see. He just might have done the floor first.
Boy I sure love all these replies and how it gets under your skin but I've been setting tile for 40 years and in 40 years I've never ever had a leak in my showers. I'm certified by the ntca as a master tile instructor so quit with all the hating.
This was a very unusual project request via a customer to have balanced tiles around the drain, so we were only able to barely move that full tile under that wall tile.
Customer wanted that tile balanced around that drain
And gave us those full size tiles around the edge.
Pan is sloped so water is managed. there is pebble rock around the drain to keep the mud from getting into the weep holes
Just quit the hating
Cheapest way of cutting mosaic tiles plse
Should've tiled the floor before the wall
I always leave the first row on wall for after floor tile has been installed, then you tile to the floor tile
Hey Sylvester Stallone good job 👍
Hey buddy I've heard that a few times I sure wish I had his success
Grout isn't waterproof
It is if you use a waterproof grout, ie swimming pools!
I will try setting the middle first thanks for the tip
Nice job
Linia de jos din stanga nu este prea bine
What type of adhesive is that? Is it a dry thinset that you mixed yourself?
Different strokes for different folks. The question is, Will everyone follow the TCNA guidelines and caulk around that perimeter joint which should really be seen on the wall, not the floor.
Never heard of "full tile management before. What do you do when you have to tile the whole house? If you break the tile up at the doorways, I would doubt your layout abilities. Can't make all the walls happy.
If you have no idea what the TCNA is, you should learn.
Floor goes down first fella
the first three sheets joints ain't lined up... and building up mosaic around only the drain is a joke man
hey rambo you fail the shower floor gou first
FAKE TILE PROFESSIONAL HERE.
WARNING! YOU WILL HAVE A FAIL SHOWER HERE.
WALL TILE MUST BE INSTALLED ON TOP OF FLOOR TILED!
WHY GUYS DOING THIS? 2022 STILL SEE THIS FAIL JOBS .
*FLOOR TILE MUST BE DONE FIRST
😱😱😬
Can you please tell us the reason for floor being tiled before the wall in a shower?
Omg. WhAT. IS. THiS.
Fail
yes goode joobe
Нихрена не понял.
This is so bad🤣🤣
You’re not a Tiler.
I am a Certified Master Instructor with the NTCA.
39 years and close to 1 million s.f
Bam!
You’re a douche
Looks like crap.
look bad 👎
Floor is always first. It's like sheetrock the walls first than the ceiling. Good job but it's wrong . Ɓ
Mike you are fired never ever install floor last. That's stupid the water will go in between the gap between floor and walls.
You don’t understand how a mud pan works, doesn’t matter
Nice job.
nice work
