  • In this series of videos we spend 61 days overlanding through Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana. In the process we drive 12315km, visit 16 National Parks and have amazing wildlife sightings along the way, including a number of species we see for the first time.
In this episode we visit the Liuwa Plains and Kafue National Parks in Zambia after crossing the border from Namibia at Katima Mulilo / Sesheke. We take a detailed look at some of the campsites we used. We experience extremely variable road conditions, from excellent paved roads, to severe potholes, to very deep sand.
Among the interesting animals we see are Oribi, Puku and African Wild Dog. Other sightings include Hyena, Lion, Leopard, Blue Wildebeest, Red Lechwe, etc.
On the downside we fight a losing battle (and unsuccessfully try some local remedies) against tsetse flies.

Yes, the Tracks4Africa guide book published in 2020 also still says there is no need, but in recent blogs and forum posts T4A pointed out that it is now a requirement. And in Zambia they certainly now asked for it. Thanks for the encouragement!

4:40 Thank you for this photo! We are currently in Mongu. We are currently considering whether we will drive to Liuwa NP tomorrow or follow the Zambezi south. We will take the route south. Thank you for the great video! Best wishes from ungezaehmt.ontour

You must just remember that that was in October, so I have no idea what the fly situation would be like now. You are so close, so I would probably have given it a shot... But I'm not sure how much rain they have had and what the roads would be like either. Perhaps you should enquire locally?

@@overlandersa Thank you for the answer! There have been a lot of flies in Kafue NP in recent days. The road in Kafue NP from Lufupa Gate to the north is not yet passable without fear of getting stuck. Lots of mud. Unfortunately we are too early, but there are still a few parks towards SA, luckily

@@ungezaehmt.ontour Hi, yes it is a pity you could not go north in Kafue. We found that to be the best area. I trust that you will enjoy Luangwa. (I have a video on that as well)
