AFter few months without working my instrument, i decided to try a classic tune. Lot of works await me!! BUt i dont really care lol Hope you dont hate it ;) See ya
I'd say it's pretty impressive that you took a couple months off of your horn and you sound like this! Seeing as this video is more than a year old, I could only imagine how much you've improved!!
You know man, i went to your page and listened to your version of "who can i turn to"! WHoouaa! I love it! So Chet ! you sound so much like one of my favorite trumpet player! Cheers for that moment!
It's not always how fast; how high; but how the notes flow and how they are toned. You made the difficult look easy. I liked the way the video ended too. It seemed like you thought of adding something, but then paused; the whole thing had feel. I'm subbing your channel man; a watch and learn type of thing :)
As one of the wisest trumpet (and best in my mind) once said, "Get some weight in that tone boy."(-Wynton Marsalis). And damn do you have weight in it! I love listening to your amazing solos so much!
Yeah, i've never been a big worker... I can play few months a lot, then stop for few next months! Thanks for that comment man! I recorded this with a sony ecm-ms907 and i used sony vegas pro. I love your version of silent night! Cheers mate!
I am a beginner trumpet player learning to play this tune for the first time. It's interesting to see where I can take it once I have mastered the basic tune. Not confident enough to improvise yet, but maybe one day!
wow thats crazy nice wish i could play like that i just dont have the time to practice. thats my favorite jazz song, we played that in our jazz band in my high school & i got the trumpet solo, but it was nuthin compaired to that.
Solo attempts is to have something to say, not just licks from some book! i think You taken out of the most in "Summertime" Harmonys on this solo, Great playing, Thumb UP from me! Thank´s Johnny
+83trumpetman I haven't been watching this video for a while, and i'm discovering all the nice and touching comments ! Hard to believe my humble improvisation pleased so many people ! Thanks 83trumpetman
Hi David, you really impressed me with your very well-played and innovative version of Summertime that you played here -- great job!! Thanks so much for sharing. It surprised me that you had been away from your trumpet for a few months; because your "rest" from playing doesn't seem to be evident at all in your version here of "Summertime" (at least not to me). I'm an aspiring trumpet player, and I seem to almost constantly have a problem with "blowing out my lips" - and this happens to me after only a short time of playing. When this happens to me, my continuing to practice playing the trumpet only seems to make things worse. The only thing that seems to help me get sold-sounding notes again is for me to take up to three weeks of rest from playing the trumpet. (It's very frustrating.) By the way, any helpful suggestions for me (from anyone here) with regards to my improving my trumpet playing would be greatly appreciated. When my wife heard you playing "Summertime" in this video, she remarked: "That sounds nice - do you think that you could ever learn to play like that on your trumpet?" (She really happens to like the old classic song: "Summertime.") *Note: I've played this song for her in the past - on my chromatic harmonica... :)
I just want to correct a typographical error that I made in the third sentence of my second paragraph (above). I had typed: "The only thing that seems to help me get sold-sounding notes again is for me to take up to three weeks of rest from playing the trumpet." (I had misspelled the word "solid" in the above sentence - [I had typed it as "sold"].) David, I keep coming back and listening to your rendition of "Summertime" here. I think that it's really cool and well-done. Thanks again for sharing it with us.
I suspect you are able to discover new ideas in the flow of the music ... that's exciting and you must have listened to a lot of jazz to be able to respond like that ... great
+Scott Maness I woke up a morning, wanting to get my trumpet on my lips again... loaded that aebersold tune, put my mic and filmed me to force me to play more... it worked for 2 or 3 years... lol
@Gedifinegispaghetti ... not lying man ;) I've been playing trumpet and only trumpet since i'm a child. When you stop few months, things sounds like in this vid.

MASSIVE STYLE MAN. You have gone a litle bit too far with the chromatic passages for me, but this is still one of the best performed summertimes i have EVER seen in my life! And Im a big fan of this standard. Really - this is the top level for me. cheers

3 years late but try to play very soft and avoid using pressure for the high notes
Quite amazing Vid-Da, so much talent as usual ;^)
@trumpetsoul Hi man, This is a selmer chorus 80J. I've been improvising by myself for the last 8 years. No teachers, only CD, Vynils, and jazz radio!
That was real clean bro
+Pete Mata Thanks ! Tried to let things come by themselves, slowly
I suspect you are able to discover new ideas in the flow of the music ... that's exciting and you must have listened to a lot of jazz to be able to respond like that ... great
