    I was told by the VA doctor that they would use a double mesh repair on my open inguinal hernia repair. Meaning one in the back and one in the front. But i wasnt awake to see if that was actually done. Had my follow up, all looking good so far. Spooky business for sure.

    Intetesting. I went with open repair but my cousin that does hernia surgery was wondering why I opted for open repair. I guess he feels more comfortable doing those robotically. I had open repair inguinal surgery done at the VA Medical Center a month ago. Minimul pain only around healing ridge area of incision. And the zero price was right.

    Hi Doctor Dave, I will be in surgery tomorrow @ 7 am. My gastoroligist will be doing laporoscopy on my hiatus hernia. I have Gerd really bad - and was diagnosed with Barretts esophagus. From what I'm hearing, laporoscopy doesn't really help much & people we're saying I'd end up doing the procedure again within a few years. I truly hope not... ZZZ tired. Take care. Kim

    Wow - that was FAST! You certainly don't look or sound like someone that just had surgery! Sounds like this surgeon has done his very best to repair and prevent any future surgeries.👍 Happy your surgery went well & thank you for the post-op update.

      The open and robotic repairs are typically outpatient repairs, and after the anesthesia wears off you can sit up and talk just like the Doctor is doing. He definitely looks to me like he has just had outpatient surgery.

    I just had my failed robot surgery done. This is my open one. I'm 3 days in and this time I'm going to take it very easy this time. I wish I had the open one first. 😢 No extreme pain or anything so far. Thank you for sharing. I would never recommend robotic hernia surgery.

      Yup, that's what I recommend. An open repair. I had mine a month ago at the VA. So far so good.

    ==> Thanks for the update, Dr. Dave! Sounds as if you were in very experienced hands. Hopefully the double-mesh will do the trick. Wishing you a smooth and pain-free recovery. Onward and upward! . . . .

    Had Laparoscopic Mesh surgery 3.5 years ago for direct bilateral inguinal hernia. Chronic prostatitis developed since than. Also, Now the Ultrasound shows it is reoccurring. Extreme pain while walking and goes while laying down. Next surgeon is suggesting open surgery as yours. Can you explain these questions?
    - Does the surgeon removed or repaired the previous mesh? Please explain in details
    - Did you felt pain while walking after the mesh failed? What were the symptoms?
    - How long was the second surgery time?
    - Are you ok now?

    In retrospect, would you have forgone mesh and considered something like Shouldice repair?

    Oh Doc I feel for ya, 9 months, then here we go again! Sounds like it was addressed comprehensively. Appreciate the vids. I have an IH also but it isn't 'that bad' yet. Have had for years and years. I am a serious fitness/weight training enthusiast so am sort of concerned about knowing when to approach the repair. My family says surgery would be better done when 55 (now) then down the road at 65.

      If you haven't done so already it might be a good idea just to sit down with a general surgeon who specializes in inguinal hernias just to get more information about your own individual situation. I appreciate your comment. Many thanks.

    At least you are having it done open , the way all hernia surgery should be done. Lap surgery is like threading a needle with chopsticks. Who wants mesh internally ? On the inside of your body ? Uggh just wish they had a good tissue repair maybe desarda is the way to go , for now. All this technology we supposedly have and we cannnot fix a simple hernia repair today any better than they did 60 years ago ! Pathetic !

      U First Health in Ft Meyers offers a No Mesh, No tension repair. Thinkn about going there. Here in PNW they ALL wanna do the Lap mesh. Docs get to charge 3x more for Lap… $

    Wish people would not do laproscopy ! I once heard this referred to as trying to thread a needle with oven mitts. Plus you just cannot see everything clearly on a monitor. Also who wants a mesh internal when you can have it external ? I mean its a no brainer.

    Blessings for good healing.
    Perhaps someone such as a physical therapist could work with you to protect that area from strain.

    I am to have bilateral inguinal hernia repair by laparoscopic procedure with mesh. He said that he has performed over 1500 repairs and feels that lap is a better way to go. He noted that he does not like to wait till the hernia enlarges for the repair because that involves a larger operation area. That kinda goes against the general thought that you don't operate till later. But his thoughts seem to be very well reasoned out. I would wait as long as I can but what do you think of a 'get it done before it becomes a problem'?

    Great to hear your second Hernia repair seems to have gone well. I had my first repair done 8 days a go. My recovery was good up until a couple of days s go! Now i have pain and discomfort in my lower abdomen, like a cramping pain. I am taking strong painkillers that were given to me at the hospital. But i was just wondering if it was normal for me to be pretty good for a week, and then for the pain to start. I've lost my appetite substantially over the last day or two. My bowel movements are slight. I'm urinating a lot. And feeling a little nauseous. Did anyone have any similar experiences? And is this normal, would you say? Thanks in advance 🙂

    I think my right side inguinal hernia done 3 years ago has failed. It was open surgery using mesh. My question: Is the repair of a failed hernia op more complicated because of the old mesh that is in there? Does the surgeon leave most or all of the old mesh in place or does it all have to be removed bit by bit? I would think this could be quite a problem where the old mesh has become part of the surrounding tissue.

    • @frugalfoot4973
      @frugalfoot4973  28 днів тому

      My old mesh was tangled in the canal and a lot had to be removed. Then my canal had to be rebuilt using additional new mesh.

    • @SuperLittleTyke
      @SuperLittleTyke 28 днів тому

      @@frugalfoot4973 That sounds awful. Did the op take a lot longer as a result? Did you ever try wearing a hernia belt before or after the ops?
