I am in love with your watercolor videos. You explain so well giving perfect step-by-step instruction. I also like your drawing explanations. Please confine with this. There are many of us who don’t work with alcohol based paints!
I bought the dorland's and its amazing! I'm shocked! Doesn't hurt the watercolor- the paper or how it looks and I was worried about it being greasy afterwards. Its not! I made cards and they are fine! TY!
Just another idea: I flatten my watercolor paintings/bookmarks by giving the unpainted side a good spraying of water. Then place it between paper towels on a firm flat surface. Next, I place a few heavy books on top and leave it to dry over night.

I have a Scotch Brand laminating machine that I use to make the durable.
Great! I really love the look and feel of the watercolor paper and wouldn’t want to laminate them. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. 😁 That IS a great way to protect them!!!! 😊

Oh I can’t wait to try some of these bookmarks. I sometimes mount my watercolors on wood panels after spraying with Kamar Varnish . Then I wax them with Dorlands and buff.

Hmmm.... never tried that. It would probably work. I don’t think I’d personally like them laminated because I love the watercolor paper feel, but I would think it would work fine and would definitely protect them.
@@MelindaHowardArt I wasn't suggesting you laminate them (i love the texture too). Just putting the bookmarks inside a piece of folded copy paper and running THAT through the laminator letting the heat do the flattening

Awesome video! Does this give off a “sticky” texture? Im making some watercolor bookmarks and worried they’ll stick to the page. Also, do the bookmarks show the circular strokes you made on the paper?
Hi, I am really sorry for taking so long to reply! The wax does not give a sticky texture once it’s dry and buffed. If you use a soft cloth you should not see the circular marks. Thank you for watching!
Hello! :) I make cards and color my stamped images with watercolor pencils, and I worry the colors will fade from sunlight. If I varnish the stamped images, will it save them from fading from sunlight?
There is UV Protective spray by Kamar. That should help. You can also check the website of the brand of watercolor pencils you’re using to see what their lightfastness rating it. (Just using varnish may not help. But try the UV Protection. (Can be found on Amazon or Michael’s.)

I use a variety of brands but mostly Arches cold press 140lb.
How hard is the finish after the wax dries a d is buffed. I am wondering about it rubbing off on book pages
Hi Pat, I kept one of the finished bookmarks in a book for quite a while with no issue. When the wax is dry and buffed it doesn’t feel like a wax coating. It just feels like normal watercolor paper with a hint of a luster finish. If you were to put too much wax and not allow it to dry there could be an issue I would guess. But there’s no problem with the thin coat I’ve used.

Couldn't you write something on the back of the bookmark with the same pen and put the wax over it? I have your same initials.
Thanks Mary! Yes! You could definitely write on the back and wax it too! I didn’t for mine because I may want to personalize the message later or have the ability for the person who receives or buys the bookmark to write. But, you could do it the other way too! 👍😊😁

I’m wondering if you can wax first, allow to dry, then iron *both* sides and skip the book press part and still have it be flat when you’re done? I would think the wax would seal it making it waterproof so you *can* iron the front too and not have any moisture ruin the artwork on the front. I’ve been searching YT for the answer to whether this can be done this way and skip the pressing part, but I may just have to try it out and see if it works this way.

@@JoyAloha709 I am currently waiting for my artwork to dry right now with the wax process on an piece of work I was just messing around with. I put 2 layers of wax on this one to make sure any water sprayed on the back wouldn’t seep through. But I wanted to make sure the wax was *completely* dry since some of these waxes do have solvents in them which can cause a potential fire issue if heated up until they completely dissipate. This one has been drying for a few days now, so I’m going to try and iron it later on today and I’ll get back to you to let you know if it worked.
I have also discovered that they warp much less if I tape them down to a board while I paint them and dry them with a hair dryer between any layers. I hardly have to use an iron anymore. Give it a try!
Cotton watercolor paper is expensive. Would this work on regular watercolor paper?
Sure! I use the cheaper watercolor paper sometimes. I personally don't love the results as much, but, you can definitely do it!
How long does it take for the Dorlands to dry? I am worried I put too much. Twelve hours later it is still mot completely dry,
