we were originally from the coastal region of San Diego and on up to Northern California. The Spaniards pushed us up into mountain regions, when minerals were found in the water of the old Capitan reservation, the government bought the water rights and we bought the Barona Ranch, which became the Barona Reservation. Barona, Viejas and Sycuan all originated from the Capitan Reservation, which is why Barona, Viejas and Sycuan were called sister reservations. Our people started living in Barona in 1932, when they moved to the new reservation, my grandmother was 12 years old. Ethan has a brother named Brandon, their father's name was Larry, and their grandfathers name was Johnny, my grandmother's name was Lucy, my dad, brother and sister still live in Barona. Our language, Bird Singers, and many of our tribal costumes and traditions have started coming back within the last 15 to 20 years taught by tribal elders that still remember, especially the language. From what I was told, my grandma's brother Gene (They called him Boy or sometimes Boy Quitac) was the first boy born on the new reservation and my aunt Evelyn was the first girl born on the new reservation, my aunt was born in my grandma's bedroom.
I'm Dieguenyo from the Kumeyaay Nation, and I know Ethan Banegas, my daughter used to live next to him.
