Even tho Lanier lost, I can see his potential to be in the top 5 ranking in the very near future. As for Koki, I could only hope and wish him to be more consistent. I noticed him a long time ago, probably during the AllEngland 2021 [when he fought against Axelsen in the first round], he lost in that 1st round match against Axelsen, but he really gave Axelsen a run for his money.
So glad that Koki Watanabe steps up as a quality men's singles player, than that boring anoying Naraoka. Koki is like a Momota who can smash also. A lot of high quality shots. It's a matter of time he continues improving to a top class player.

Like I said, Lanier’s style is hard to sustain over a course of a tournament or especially multiple tournaments. Current generation players defenses are so good, attacking style is great to watch but you just tire yourself out. Ginting is only 27 and has had given Momota trouble before, but now he is almost irrelevant in major tournaments. Lanier today in second set can’t even follow up his own attacking shots.

もともと持ってたフットワークの速さにスタミナ、スマッシュ力も付いたから本当に今のWATANABEは強い。
女子の宮崎同様にとにかく粘り強く相手を４隅に動かす戦術は相手のスタミナも奪うが、自分も同様に動かないといけない。でもそれを可能にするスタミナと精神力が今のWATANABEには備わっている。
今のWATANABEとやって勝てる日本人はいないんちゃうかな。
