Which reel do you mean? Virtually all reels start their life in the same sites. The Onyx Compact has parts made by ESP with our own machines like the spools.
20lb main won't consistently take the strain put on by casting 6 oz plus spombs. Trust me been there I go 0.10 berkley pe braid main to 0.18 50lb whiplash no problems what so ever solid it has a coating which means 0 wind knots no lies.
Depends on the water. It has been a very mild winter and it is very digestible bait. Gone in no time when a group of 20's, 30's and hopeful 40's arrive on it!
Ray Briggs Any would be fine. The only difference in the spools is the amount of line they take. The ultra shallow spools were made for around 300m of line so that you can get three reels done from a 1000m spool of line. Have you put line on any of the spools yet?
@@ESPCarpgear Hi. Yes all spools have line on them, 15lb and 18lb. If i did use one of them i am thinking that i would have to put backing on say the Ultra Shallow one
Ray Briggs you could do some backing on the ultra shallow spool, but not too much. 300m of spod braid will probably sit perfectly. You don’t want to over fill the spool.
Ian Thatcher hi Ian. Materials get better and better every year, and it is a long long time since our last rod of this kind so naturally it would be better. We went through numerous sample blanks and variations until we settled on the final one. Kev is a previous BCAC champion and does a LOT of spombing so his testimony is worth a lot. At ESP nobody is forced to use any kit - if there was a better spod rod Kev wanted to use he is free to use it as long as he tells us how we can better ours. Cheers.
Brilliant rod. Well pleased with mine👍
Can i used this rod for beach fishing?
Question , if you only use one rod , how do you spod to your marker float ?
Hi Kevin - I think Kev would just spomb to a clip on his reel and treelike marker, no need to aim it at a marker float.
@@ESPCarpgear Gotcha , thanks for the reply ..
Good to see you testing the new penn esp reel loool better than the mitchell I hope...

Don't get why the shock leader when braid to braid. I get braid to nylon an nylon to braid...

@@alexbrooks5738 I've never had them probs with strait braid at 20lb...used shock leader whilst using thin diameter nylon. All a learning curve.👍
Thats quite a Bit of bait for winter?

Can't seem to get one anywhere 😔
Looks good!! Price??
£180 for the rod
Can i use the onyx fishing reel for spoding?
Ray Briggs absolutely. They are great reels for casting anything.
@@ESPCarpgear I have 3 of the big pit reels, so if i use one for spoding, which spool would i use

And look at his reel the line has washed out well quick doesn't stay that colour for long
Rebecca Cooksey That has gone through months of use. All braids change colour with use but their performance remains the same.
😎😎👍👍
Anyone else get fed up with every manufacture saying its better and the best they ever had?

Well explain ESPcarpgear.
They all from.china all made in the same factories dont fall for the marketing bullshit
Rebecca Cooksey says someone that’s never probably even seen this rod let alone cast one.
If you had you’d know they are a decent rod.
