Back in 1987, I was one of Normand Roger's students in his "Sound for Animation" class at Concordia University in Montréal. He had been working on Frédéric Back's "Crac" for Radio Canada and now he was sound editing this little jewel. During class, he showed it to us, before anyone else could see it. We were in awe. Tears, goossebumps, you name it. Everytime I see this, it brings it all back.
Amazing story! I went to Concordia as an animation student back in the early 2000s, largely due to being so inspired by this film. And you are right, I still get tears and goosebumps every time I watch it.
Makes me sob like a child every time I either watch it or read it. And I have grown apples from seeds taken from apples I bought in the supermarket; they are now growing in my garden.
Something similar hit me 5 years ago, and I just started planting trees. I have now created a forest where there was previously nothing. 1000s of trees, everything in the forest is edible. I share my journey to help inspire others to follow me and do the same on their lands. We have tremendous power to do good on this planet. To heal it. Come join us, and lets build an army. The kind of army the world deserves. I can show you how.
@@wyattadams3888 It's definitely Plummer, but Gambon is a good actor, which I mostly remember from his one of a kind performance in The Cook the Thief His Wife and her Lover
It is a beautiful story. Some people like Bouffier do exist, Wangari Maathai of Kenya comes to mind. She won the Nobel Peace Prize for her work with the Greenbelt Movement. Sadly she passed away a couple years ago, but the work of tree planting and her legacy of millions of trees continue.
I first saw this film at the Palace of Fine Arts in SF in the early '90's (when SF was the most beautiful city in the world) and when I was courting my future wife who was with me (and was the site I later proposed to her). Whenever I see the film, I think of her, the time that has passed and how very moving the message is on so many fronts. Yes, it brings back memories of a lost marriage, but I always come back to revisit the emotions it brought forth--at that time, at that place....
My heart is beating wildly watching this gorgeous powerful animation of a most beautiful and inspiring story. This story applies to all of us. Let us be inspired by Elzeard Bouffier and plant seeds!!
I just love this story. It always brings back memories of my dad, who spent his last decade single-handedly planting a forest of juniper trees in an area of Wyoming where trees don't grow easily. He rubbed off on me: I collect Ponderosa Pine seeds every fall and I hope to add significantly to the forest around my home in the coming decades.
Thank you 🙏 our forest has grown into a magical place, it has attached like minded people that are learning the ways. I meet my wife working in this little forest. We need children to be following behind adults doing this work, so they have the skills to recreate it. This can be recreated anywhere. But yes it starts with a dream or doing something different
This is such a beautiful, inspiring story. Thank you for sharing! If only people like Elzéard Bouffier existed, our planet could really use more people like him!
Setting = the alps He saw a shepherd with 30 sheep and drew water from a well. He lived in a stone house. He had soup going and shared with him. The visiter offered the man tobacco and he refused. The village was 2 miles away so the shepherd allowed the visitor to stay the night. The shepherd emptied a pile of acorns on the table separating the good from the bad. Divided them into piles of 10. He stopped at 100 perfect acorns.
Truly a servant of our Creator and Father. What a magnificent story of conviction, motivation, and obedience to the natural order for man to rule and subdue the earth (Genesis 1:26, 28). SAWS (Survival Application Weapon on UA-cam and Patreon) referred us to this story. Thank you.
I thank my husband for sharing this film with our children. May they remember it in adulthood.
This is one of the most beautiful animated works I have ever seen

Wow! Thank you for this story!
Such a valuable lesson, i watch it every year, it helps me stay on my path🙏

same here...i cried like a baby wen i read it. I am buying it in Turkish now for my students.
Tears in my eyes, literally, everytime I'm watching it. Eve though it is a fiction, sigh.
R.I.P Frederic Back.. One of the masters of animation...
I've watched the beautiful story many times over the years and will continue to do so.. I never grow tired of watching it.. A classic for sure

Lovely story, beautifully illustrated 🌿🪶
One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen on film.
This animation is one of the greatest treasures ever created in animation film production! Thanks for making this available!
Rest in Peace, Christopher Plummer. Thank you for your narration in this beautiful film!
I think this is Michael Gambon actually, the man who plays Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies.
And rest in peace to Philippe Noiret, the legendary actor who voiced the French version of this bilingual production.

Fell into this somehow back when it came out. On VHS.
Rejoined today. Still a wonder!
It is a beautiful story. Some people like Bouffier do exist,
Wangari Maathai of Kenya comes to mind. She won the
Nobel Peace Prize for her work with the Greenbelt Movement.

such a lovely story with lovely art, but such a touching exhilarating motivational movie thank you so much
One of the greatest animations ever!

The man spoke little, this was the way of those who live alone.

Sharon Azar yes! The story is the story of humanity. Ecosystems can healed. Cultures can be shifted.
My Dad had an old hand typed version of this story - I am so glad to have found t here - beautiful, moving and inspiring.
I can watch this over and over again - beautiful!
Brings tears to my eyes everytime!! A touching story
It can happen for real: Jadav "Molai" Payeng, a man who spent 30 years single-handedly planting a sprawling 1,360-acre forest in his native India.
Frédéric Back himself. I'm gonna plant some.

Beautiful
One of my all time favorite stories.
Saw this when it was new- it literally changed my life.
I love this story, today I found myself wanting to watch & listen to this AGAIN!! I will never get sick of it.
Thank you for this beautiful story. It is so inspiring. It would be wisdom to share this with young children and allow them to dream!
Thank you 🙏 our forest has grown into a magical place, it has attached like minded people that are learning the ways. I meet my wife working in this little forest.

Well, that was very humbling and inspiring.

that one thumb-downer can bloody well bugger off underground.
Just beautiful.
Thanks for sharing this animation. I saw it decades ago and I've been looking for it ever since.
I watch it every year
Thanks for posting this. I haven't seen it in years, but it still touches me.
Don Edwards I like to watch it every few years. Such a timeless story
Aw wonderful such an inspiration to me planting Trees on my Grand[parents croft was the inspiration behind me loving trees
What a beautiful story. Thank you.
I have been to the region of this story a few years ago, no more loneliness or peace. Humans everywhere...
Progress right... right ?
How lovely. Thank you for posting this. I know more now about how to plant acorns... and will do so. :)
Absolutely Beautiful!
Marvelous! The king and the land are one...
Caius Keys how we treat the land will determine if we live like kings or fools
If we all chose to plant 10 trees, you gotta figure at least 4 would survive no?✌️

Its dear to my heart, have not heard of this page, gota look into it
For sure, softcoral. Well said !
Watching this right now feels like I’m watching it on PBS, if it actually aired on there.
This is the Legend of the 21st Century! Let Us plant many Trees :)
Narrated by our excellent Christopher Plummer. There is a better version with much better audio (Olgata).
why is the volume soo quite right here 10:51
Does anybody know the theme song that they play throughout the movie?? I can't find it anywhere
The cartoon is based on real life, too! :)
It was a man from France, Elzeard Buffier, who planted a huge forest, 11 km long and 3 km wide ... :)
i wish! he was a fictional character though.
Frederic Back planted thousands of trees over decades.
A task worthy of God.
Something like this actually happened in real life. Look up Hikmet Kaya if you want an example.
Anyone know where to get the soundtrack? Would be great to have thanks! ❤️
👏👏👏
Classic
Wow.
This looks like it's made for mushrooms
does anyone know where I can find the OST of this masterpiece
its by Roger Normand, but I've been looking for the ost for some time now.
As it says above, " fictional short story".
Wow
This version has audio coming only out of one side. Use this version:
