Im glad you brought up the fact that while the narrative and premise is good it doesn’t have any overarching theme/message, something that I was thinking on and believed I simply missed but it seems im not the only person who shares that realization. And while these aspects are not necessary in storytelling it practically always contributes to improved quality. Good video
Honestly despite its simple (but very effective) story/themes it is still is one of the Horror games most influemced me the most along side the other greats. Fire vid btw
god u really unlocked a memory with this video. i remember sitting in a room full of ppl at a retro gaming convention many years ago and they played a few rpgmaker horror games and i remember this one sticking out from the rest (they got the true ending) thanks for reminding me of this games existence omg
In some ways, this game reminds me of Clock Tower. I'd definitely rather watch a video about it though than actually play it, and I came to the right place for a well informed and enthusiastic video! Good job as always Eve!
The only problem I have with this game is the ending. Yeah, I know it’s a good ending. A great one, in fact. But it’s such a downer since Violet died in such a painful and violent way, and she just wanted to be herself again. It’s sad. Great video, cheers.
Interestingly, I knew nothing about the game until after I read the manga. At the end of the second volume, I was rather confused about the ending and I learned the manga was a prequel to the game and it ends where the game begins. I thought it was genius. While I didn't play the game, I looked up a Let's Play. I can't say I loved my experience with the game's content (aside for the "symmetrical room" puzzle), especially seeing as jumpscares aren't my thing, but I enjoyed what the game set in terms of setting and narrative and was happy I got to experience the original content through another person's playthrough. That said, I think the author could have done more with this narrative. The characters and setting were interesting. What I'm trying to say is, I wanted more. :p
As disturbing as the actions of the main character are. I still can't help but feel a bit sorry for her. She suffered from a disease. Was treated badly by her parents. And her miserable life was probably what broke her and set her to make a deal with the demon. People can do crazy and desperate things even at the expense of others for happiness. In the end she did get what she wanted. A father. A new life. But at the cost of the life of another. There are numerous fanmade continuations. Some of them often showing her life after the events of the game after she took the life of Viola and her either coming to regret said decision or getting karma for her own actions. I for one would like a sequel where maybe Ellen realizes the error of her ways realizing probably that having a family doesn't bring her happiness as she's living a lie so she sets off to save Viola from the Black Cat. Or Viola tries to escape and reunite with her father.
I think it was a video by Majuular, but I remember hearing about this game and it's twist. It sounds like a pretty neat game for what it is, not sure if I would play it myself though, I think I'd like to see a playthrough of it though. Anyways cool video!
I've never heard about this game before, despite enjoying some horror games in my teenage years. I think it's interesting. I'm also wondering, have you ever considered that the Catholic faith might be the true one? If you do one day, there are some UA-cam channels such as Breaking in The Habit, Thomistic Institute, Ascension Presents, Catholic Answers which explain it. It's better to know the way of salvation. I believe heaven and hell exist, and it's up to us if we want to accept God's Mercy or not. That's why it's very important to become a part of the Church. There are miracles, too. Like corpses not decaying or Eucharistic ones.
you're telling me a witch made this house

Wonderful analysis. The story has been living rent free in my head for years and I love your critique of it. Really put into words what I felt.
