    It's weird how the TV shows that you watched as a kid seemed to go on for _years_ - and then you look 'em up on the internet and find there were only enough episodes to fill a quarter of one year. The Planet of the Apes TV series? 14 episodes. The Logan's Run TV series? 14 episodes. The Man from Atantis? 13 episodes. Time speeds up as you get older, so I suppose the inverse was also true.

    Gary Bracey was not a "Company Director" at Ocean Software. He was VP of Development. You also showed Jonathan Joffa Smith while talking about freelance programmers. Joffa worked in-house as an employee of Ocean.

    • @SebsPlaceYT
      @SebsPlaceYT  7 місяців тому +1

      I do enjoy the fact you turn up every now again just to pick holes Simon..... VP or director.... same bloody difference, and yes I'm fully aware that is Joffa. Didn't have much footage to use of 80s teenage freelance programmers. It's fairly obvious it's the same Ocean footage throughout.

    At least Spectrum users got Street Hawk. C64 owners didn't get any version, and it took years before the Martin Galway music was archived from his own source disks. There is in fact two renditions: a more straight cover, which would have been used in the first version, and then the extended version where Galway added bits to the start and end. Both are well worth a listen and can be listened via DeepSID online the easy way.
    The first Spectrum version was definitely more a fulfilment exercise to avoid financial penalties with the full version later on, which at least was ambitious(ish) with that top down setting made popular by a certain driving game series.

      @@SebsPlaceYT by the way, they could make a good trick even with these two humble types of gameplay. Apart from speeding up the whole thing, they could introduce time race, collecting coins/fuel/ammo, following and attacking armored car in Chase HQ style (same npc car sprite but of different color with terrible clashing as always:)) The best choice would be to go with Deathchase clone!

    Yeah both are extremely poor, shame they didn't make more of the Defender type game.
    I remember once upon a time when a computer shop I used to go in Walsall would have tv's hanging down suspended from the ceiling showing the latest game trailers, Street Hawk was one of them.
    I swear the background music was from the C64 playing during the trailer but different to Martin Galway's version on the internet. I still remember this memory vividly. The trailer was from the second version of the game.

    All of my fave shows got cancelled early. I preferred Blue Thunder to Airwolf, it was gone after 11 episodes, although in retrospect, my memories were coloured by the infinitely better feature film. I've revisited Street Hawk since, which got to 13 episodes before cancellation, but I can still watch it. I like the character dynamic, the bike is cool, and the stories are interesting. It had some decent production value too, getting Christopher Lloyd to play the bad guy in the pilot, and with an early appearance for George Clooney. But when it came to super powered road vehicles, Knight Rider had the crown, and made it to 4 seasons. I've tried rewatching that, and it's so cheesy that it makes my teeth itch. Besides, a Tangerine Dream theme tune will win my heart every time.

    Blue Thunder the movie was excellent.. the tv show yeah not so much...Airwolf started decent but soon fell to bits..Knight Rider remains a classic that legit works on multiple levels as a good action show for kids but at the same time as a goofy, but intentionally funny, show for the adults. Street Hawk was solid if unremarkable but I liked it and never figured out why it got axed after one season though... 2 games and BOTH were bloody awful (thank **** I never paid cash for either, both were on a "completely legitimate compilation tape" (TM).
