Studying for my ged at age 24 I’ll be graduating this year. I want to study law. History is very interesting to me. Also knowing my rights. Honestly I’ve had an amazing public defender, I’ve also seen people have not so great ones. I always wished someone could have the same experience as mine. It would be so rewarding to give some one the opportunity my lawyer gave me.

I can most certainly say you will always be on-call, our minds run a million miles a minute, you almost have to be nuts to be in this profession or nuts about this profession. This is a legal company and we get tons of questions and requests from friends family co workers anyone who know what you are, who you are. We connect with attys across country and you are correct that school does not prepare you for every practice, some things you will need to learn etc, we handle estates, wills, business formations contracts, and will eventually move into family law and real estate, notary etc. I enjoyed your video thoroughly and thanks!

If you have a friend who is a lawyer and want advice from that friend, offer something. Anything! Taking them out to lunch, offering some sort of service in return. One friend of mine offered to paint a picture of my cat if I helped her with a small legal issue. I appreciated it and we were both happy to be able to help the other.
There is liability with every question lawyers answers and I don't think people understand that either. The question that always makes me cringe and brace is: "Can I ask you a question?" I know that they're going to ask a legal question and then it puts me in this crappy position of having to either take the liability if I give a wrong answer (which often means I need to do research to make sure I'm giving the right answer) or I look like a jerk and say I don't offer legal advice outside of work.
So if you do have a friend who is a lawyer and want to ask a question, it goes a long way to offer a little something in return so that the friend doesn't feel taken advantage of. The only reason that friend has that answer is through years of hard work and stress.

I know, a lot of people say you shouldn't do law if you're not serious or passionate about it, or your doing it because you don't know what you want to do, but I think that is the best job for me because
    1. I hate math and stem
    2. English is not bad, I can do some critical thinking
The problem is that I've heard that lawyers is on call all the time and doing a lot of documents before going to court and winning (or losing) the case. I mean as long as I can organize everything and work well, I will do it. But, I have a sewing hobby that I WANT to continue into my adulthood.
I talked to my dad about his suggestion of being a lawyer and the money and job sound stable, but it seems very strict and structured. Honestly, considering my personality: anxious and hard working and stubborn, can I handle it? I'm so afraid...
p.s I have more, but I'm not going to push all my burdens onto this comment

I'm about to become a senior undergrad and law school is compelling but I'm worried it isn't for me (introverted and worried about work-life balance) and not worth the steep price tag to even apply.. I don't know if I should hustle now and get an application in to schools when I don't even know what kind of law I want to study, or just wait to apply and work to gain some life experience instead first. Would love to hear your insights on how you made the decision!!

I think you can look into getting accepted and maybe deferring a year or two. Also maybe try some internships or summer jobs at a law firm. Even if not an intern you can get a glimpse into what it’s like to work at a law firm. Also there are many different avenues as a lawyer not just a traditional law firm job. Work life balance is definitely something i am still working on managing but i wouldn’t let being an introvert deter you! Thanks for the video topic idea, I will get on it! ☺️

How do you deal with stress on a daily basis? What do you find is the most efficient way to track your billable time?

I do my best to remain positive, switch gears to another task, spend time with my family, talk to friends and family and pray. Best way for me to track my time is writing it down as I go, the most efficient way is to use timers but you have to remember to timers when you switch matters.

I'm 14 and my parents are forcing me to become a lawyer but honestly they did convince me to become one meanwhile I'm here browsing in the internet questions for example “Do I get breaks? ", “Am I fit to be a lawyer?" Being a lawyer sounds good to me but at the same time I want to follow my passion of making art and music

Do your homework on the lifestyle and see if its something you can handle. She's mentioned plenty about the workload. The only way you'll make it through every day is if you have the passion for the work you do. Do you like to serve others? You would need a strong passion for helping others because everything you do will be just that.

You should reach out to some local lawyers & try to shadow them for the day. You will have a better idea of what a lawyer does on the day-to-day & if that is something you want to be doing.
