  • In a move that has sparked widespread outrage, the Georgian Parliament has passed a controversial 'foreign influence' bill with an 84-30 vote, prompting mass protests and heated debates among lawmakers. Critics argue that the bill, inspired by Russian legislation, threatens democratic freedoms and the nation's aspirations to join the European Union. The law mandates that media, NGOs, and nonprofits register as "foreign agents" if they receive over 20% of their funding from abroad. This has raised concerns about free speech and governmental overreach, with protesters voicing fears for Georgia's democracy and independence. The situation escalated as demonstrators clashed with police outside parliament, attempting to break metal barriers and banging on the doors to express their discontent.
The passing of the bill has also attracted international condemnation, with the U.S. warning of potential sanctions. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, James O'Brien, indicated that financial and travel restrictions could be imposed on those responsible for the law and any subsequent violence against peaceful protesters. Meanwhile, Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze defended the legislation, asserting that it is crucial for the country's sovereignty and long-term peace. This development has deepened the political crisis in Georgia, highlighting the stark divisions within its society and the high stakes of its geopolitical orientation.

America has NOTHING to say. The NATION of Georgia is a SOVEREIGN country, and it is NOT the State of Georgia which is under the jurisdiction of the United States.
