It's interesting to me that we as humans are smart enough to build rockets, robotics, computers and other forms of technology, but sadly aren't smart enough to understand that the biggest problem is us...
I remember once hearing a story of a woman being outed to her coworkers because a targeted ad for a same-sex dating site found it's way to her computer during work. It's disgusting how invasive these ads can be.
Targeted ads are the worst: my mom was talking about getting Better Than Bouillon from the grocery, Facebook advertises it to her. I look at L.L. Bean backpacks for school, my coloring app on my iPad advertises L.L. Bean backpacks to me.
It just makes you miss the 90s and early aughts, when the internet wasn't as invasive as it is today.
Sadly corporate greed is everywhere and I don't think it'll ever go away. The movie V for Vendetta imo covers this well
That really is so terribly true like those greedy drug companies pushing out the deadly opioids.
If you go point by point, it's quite nearly the entire premise for 1984 we're currently living in.
That book predicted way too much, I thought enough of it was true in mid 90s when first read it but now….yeah it’s all coming true
I can’t stand targeted ads, especially the beer ads and ads in general you can’t skip or block.

#14 it's amazing how Drug companies can kill millions of people, have thousands suffering from addiction and not one person spends a day in jail, just pays a fine. #6 There's also judicial inequality, the more money you have, the easier it is to get away with a crime.
My mom got addicted to opiates after several surgeries. I went to her doctor and told her she was going to kill my mom if she didn't stop prescribing her those fn pills. Less than a year later, my mom was dead from an opiate overdose. This was in 2006. That doctor has faced zero consequences for killing my mom. All the people responsible should be sitting in prison, but the rich and powerful are immune it would seem.
Really must have people in high places along with the part of people's impatience and trying to solve pain fast is another contributing problem along with shady advertising.
It would’ve been a sin not to add Covid to this list.
The COVID-19 Pandemic starting in 2020 became the world's worst nightmare since the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918

You are a product on social media, being sold to advertisers. If you said something an advertiser wouldn't like, they wouldn't give their money to facebook, twitter, etc. It's not censorship, it's keeping things "family friendly" for money.

It should be noted, fentanyl isn't the "primary drug of choice," in most cases. The reality is that most illicit street drugs are being laced with it and it's causing ODs because of how potent it is and then having no tolerance.

It seems that a lot of these problems are connected, with the rise of social media, people have become lazy, sefish and depend on others to do anything for them, we have become a throw away world, because, there is a "whats in it for me" attitude amongst the young, maybe, it started when the victim mentality when the whole preventing parents the right to smack their children, or teachers to rule a class room with disciplinary methods....
A lot of those problems pre-dated the Web.
I belong to a Facebook page that was just shut down for no clear reason. It’s happening all over the place for different topics, ranging from full on deletion to restricting members being able to share content.
I will never have a tiktok account and I never want one, tiktok deserves to get banned
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean others don't either. Lots like the app and some even make their living on it and some also grow their platform to get more recognition like cooking videos. I deleted my Tiktok too but I don't think it deserves to get banned. And I personally like Instagram reels and UA-cam shorts
