Hang in there. I feel your pain. I have been going through a lot of the same things. I just don't do videos on here anymore. I have a 2012 Mini Countryman All4 that I got from Copart and had to replace the subframe, the whole front suspension and brakes. The rear control arms because the fork truck bent them and a few body parts. I figure I'll make about a thousand dollars after all my efforts. I think most dealers make money because they hide stuff and don't repair things properly. I just can't do that. I make it right as if it were my own daily driver.
keep your head up man, you got to realize you have built something to be proud of already, just focus on the profit margins and minimize risk/overhead. I'm an independent shop owner looking to get my license and the only reason I am doing it now is because I can cover all my overhead with the repair side already. so, getting the license just makes sense. wish you the best of luck!
Keep your head up bro, and be patient. You are a nice man with proper ambition and knowledge, people will recognise you I am sure. Fixing up boring cars and selling them for good money can be just as enjoyable in the beginning. Try to pinpoint a more fun car, and work till you can get it.
So I watched your earlier video where you also fix motorcycles. Your current shop has plenty of room for many bikes. Have you thought about focusing on bikes now during riding season? You can still work on VW / Audi as your passion, but when problems arise you can put them aside. Something else to consider: during large recessions people are quick to get rid of their toys because they need a roof over their head and a car to get to work. If overtime gets cut they will sell a bike to raise cash. You likely can pick up several bikes to sell with same amount of cash for 1 car, and pick up donor parts / cars from CoPart. Powersports is seasonal, so it's slow during the winter, so then you can focus on cars. Motorcycle riders are enthusiastic and you may be able to get more viewers quickly, and I haven't seen alot of dealers who fix / sell bikes. In the winter if bikes are successful you could work on snowmobiles, then maybe scooters and ATVs. It could be a Gateway into getting a new Brand to sell.
My friend sign up auction access and hit up some dealer autions. Get 2-3 boring cars with little to no work at trade in price then sell at retail price to keep the shop going. While having a fun car or 2 for youtube. You got thiss
Yeah you might be right. I think I’m afraid to buy a “boring, little to no work” car that ends up having major issues that I didn’t look out for because I’m not familiar with that make/model.

The cars are the clickbait, YOU are what ppl will come back for. So don't be afraid to make 'boring' videos about cars your not as passionate about, you can use that as extra enthusiasm for the videos you do enjoy more; because while you are creating the videos, the videos are also creating you, and you will end up far more valuable than any one of these cars or videos. You’re definitely onto something here. And that’s certainly how it started for me just straight up passion and simple enjoyment from working on cars. I think now that I need to keep up with rent and other expenses, that extra stress just takes away a decent chunk of that. I’m definitely going to try and go back to that hobbyist mentality though, thanks!
As a dealer and 12 years in the car business you have a problem: talking about interesting cars that attract viewers. Fixing and selling cars that are boring such as Toyotas that are reliable so quick turnaround meaning more $$$$. Most people are not passionate about what they drive but everybody has a budget and has to have a reliable car to get to work. Personally sold new Audis and am an VW / Audi enthusiast, but I drive a Toyota due to no stress. Be careful of CoPart. They occasionally do not represent the cars correctly meaning it is not running when it should, or miles are incorrect. Try to become friendly with Used Car managers at New Car dealers and see if you can buy their trades. It will save you on fees, and if they like you they will start to show you gems that they won't show others. Car business is tough. GOOD LUCK
