  • I walk in Downtown Newark, New Jersey from Newark Penn Station and travel along Market Street, Broad Street, and Raymond Boulevard.
    From Wikipedia:
"Newark is the most populous city in the U.S. state of New Jersey and the seat of Essex County. As one of the nation's major air, shipping, and rail hubs, the city had a population of 281,764 in 2016, making it the nation's 67th-most populous municipality, after being ranked 63rd in the nation in 2000.
Settled in 1666 by Puritans from New Haven Colony, Newark is one of the oldest European cities in the United States. Its location at the mouth of the Passaic River (where it flows into Newark Bay) has made the city's waterfront an integral part of the Port of New York and New Jersey. Today, Port Newark-Elizabeth is the primary container shipping terminal of the busiest seaport on the American East Coast. In addition, Newark Liberty International Airport was the first municipal commercial airport in the United States, and today is one of its busiest.
Several leading companies have their headquarters in Newark, including Prudential, PSEG, Panasonic Corporation of North America, Audible.com, IDT Corporation, and Manischewitz. A number of important higher education institutions are also in the city, including the Newark campus of Rutgers University (which includes law and medical schools and the Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies); the New Jersey Institute of Technology; and Seton Hall University's law school. The U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey sits in the city as well. Local cultural venues include the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark Symphony Hall, the Prudential Center and the Newark Museum."

Bro it was Christmas time & I was at penn station waiting for the bus to visit fam in another state. I had cash on me just in case & homeless guy helpee me find wherey bus would be & he asked for cash. I thought giving him money was the right thing given he was talking about family bs. He ended up buying pills in front of me & spilling some on the floor. I felt like such a dumbass.

As a Newarker who is a disabled senior, I can't get to these wonderful places like I used to, so thank you ActionKid for bringing it all back home (as Dylan would say lol) Seeing Penn Station again where I got the train each week then each month was a real treat. I worked for years in Military Park, lived nearby too, and now in the Lincoln Park area I enjoy all the benefits of my incredible city. We've progressed and improved over the years and just keep getting better.

I can remember Kareem, Mustafa......all on Branford Place Friday evening buying suits and getting ready to go and see Tommy Hearns and Marvin Hagler. The city is gripped with excitement in anticipation for the big fight. As I walk out the haberdashery onto the street, I hear the Whispers' Lost and Turned Out blaring from a passing car. "Wanna buy a bean pie?" a slender Muslim brother asks. "Yes sir!" I answer. "I'll take two and I'll take a Muhammad Speaks."

They looked like they were really remodeling their city, with a nice Waterfront, interesting murals in the arts districts, diverse restaurants. All the negative things I heard by the media, didn't match my experience. And close to NYC. 👍

I just hope when its well gentrified I just hope there's still a piece of pie left for the people who are less fortunate in the inner urban areas in the city.

If that was the case than Newark would be as bad as it was in the 1990-2000 because of racial fighting. Hell my best friend who's half German, has a German father who moved from Germany, and lives in Newark still speaking fluent German.(not to mention he lives in a black neighborhood) And that goes for many white teachers,City Hall members, and sportsman (jersey devil's) who live in the city. don't go spreading racists lies about my city and it's people rather they be black or white.

I went to Rutgers-Newark, and my favorite restaurant was a Mexican place on Market street just before you got to Broad. Sad to see that not only is it gone, but so are nearly all the stores on that entire block.

I lived in Newark. I loved it. The only thing i hated was that they would break into your car repeatedly for no reason because there was nothing to steal. And also they would steal your cars rims even if they were shitty regular car rims. But other than that, i love Newark. 😀 Forest Hills is kinda nice, Ironbound is ok. Etc. Nearby Bloomfield is kinda nice.

    Thanks, ActionKid.
I've enjoyed many of your videos that show me neighborhoods of many boroughs in NYC that I haven't visisted, as well as my home borough of Staten Island (once you went right past my house and cauight my sister going down the steps at the Grasmere train station) and of course other cities in the USA and around the world.
The next time you are back in the NY metro area from FLa., since you have done Newark and Jersey City, you should also check out Elizabeth and Bayonne. Although I'm a Staten Islander, I attended a yeshiva school in Elizabeth for a couple of years; I think you'd enjoy a walk in the Elmora section, which I revisited yesterday after an absence of many years. (Some things have changed, notyably the Elmora movie theater is gobne now, some things have remaiend the same). It's a vibrant mix of Orthodox Jewish businesses, Latin Americans, Afghanis and others. Check it out.
I've ridden mny bike in Bayonnne a gbit and I like it too. Places I'd like to explore with a downtown core are Perth Amboy (never really been) and maybe Weehawken, Union City, Fort Lee---? A walk across the GW from Washington Heights to Fort Lee sounds like a cool trip, have you done that yet? (I'llhave to check your archive.)

Too bad I didn’t see you during your time here, kinda surprised you even showed Newark aka Brick City love but I shouldn’t be since you seem to have no boundaries. Not sure if you moved to Fl. Or just visiting but if you come back to ny I’m sure 1 day we’ll cross paths…
Also.. you inspire me to look into doing something similiar like this with my daughter.. who knows
