Thanks for watching our channel. No these are not bird jones, so have no built in barlow lens inside the focuser. So you get the full 900mm OTA in length. We have more of the motor drive version on order, due in late April.
@@44messier yeah, i had thought the "bird jones" haters were being unfair...till i bought one.. the celestron powerseeker 127eq is quite poor .. image wise..getting this skywatcher explorer 130 instead.
The PS 127 short tube optical design is not too bad. Main issue is the 2 unsuitable stock eyepieces that come with it. Change these to a couple of 10mm and 26mm plossls , and the image will be much sharper. Same goes for a number of starter scopes that come with basic eyepieces.
I am completely new to stargazing. and I am looking for a first telescope to help with my new hobby. I was hoping to get some guidance as many aspects and features of telescopes are completely unknown to me. What would you recommend I should look out for in telescopes when starting this new hobby and what things do I need to learn before making my first purchase please? I plan to do targazing from my back garden or the front. I do not plan to take it anywhere else. I do not require the latest and greatest technology, rather have something simple and affordable but also would be willing to invest into the hobby for years to come. With this model, would I need to buy a mount and tripod separately? I am sorry for asking such amateur questions but it's hard for me to know where to start as there is so much information out there. I would greatly appreciate any help and advice.
Would this telescope be a good investment for a first time telescope or maybe it would be too much? Is it hard to carry? Thanks, really like this video, real useful
The biggest mistake people make when buying a first telescope is to ask about taking photos before buying. Enjoy the view through the eyepiece. Worry about photos later
2:28 It did not escape my eye how the RA change it's angle when you locked it. As an owner of EQ1 mount I can testify, it is quite horrible. The reason it changes position is because they saved a cent or two on the RA shaft and made it too short so that the locking screw is pressing on it's edge and dent/degrades over with time, then when you lock it it adjust to the dent it is against. Do not tighten the RA lock too much, and never try to to rotate the telescope by hand when it is locked. If you are a hobbyist and like to get your hands dirty, this is not a problem, otherwise, if you have the money to spare go for a mount with proper clutch.
Thank you for watching our channel and your keen eyes. Reason many of my scope mount angles are not exact as per instructions is to achieve the correct angle to allow more of the telescope to be seen at once on a 16-9 ratio screen. This is an EQ2 mount. Good advice you say which I mention in a number of my videos. In particular, t-rings. Do not ever tighten anything. Could be worse. I could do like so many other telescope "reviewers" do and pinch clips from others and give false info with a computer generated voice.
I've got this telescope it's all been set-up correctly the collimation is spot on but for some reason with the 10 mm I cannot see nothing even if I put on the 2x Barlow lends with it I have tried looking at buildings can't see it's just blurry I tried looking at the moon it's the same and even Jupiter and it was very small and blurry if I want to see the moon all buildings I have to use my wide angle long eye relief is this normal to see only through this one and not the 10mm unfortunately when I purchased his telescope it didn't come with the 25 mm eyepiece
Not normal to find this. How far are the buildings you are testing on. Best if they are a few miles away. Guessing you are aware that when changing eyepieces you may need to alter focus.
@@44messier yeah I'm checking miles away and I can only see with the super 25 wild angle long eye relief I forgot I had eyepiece so I been using that to look at the moon. Can you recommend any good 1.25 eyepiece I was thinking the plossl they look nice
Depends. The longer focal length of the SW will be better suited to planetary work. While the shorter FL of the celestron will make it better for transportation and be great for wide field views (once you ditch the erect image eyepiece and get a decent plossl)

Would have thought you could answer that question, given your location and you have this scope. Guessing at best you may see a small patch of light with averted vision. Maybe some sort of sodium light filtration may aid you a little.
I would very much doubt it. Plus the secondary mirror may be too small to get full view if a 2" adapter was modified to fit. But if anyone has tried this with success, let us know your findings.
Compared to binoculars, telescopes do give a small field of view. For the widest view, use the 25mm eyepiece, or upgrade to a 32mm or 40mm plossl. Above this you can get 70 degree or 82 degree ultra wide angle eyepieces, but will cost more
Hello, Im a amateur of this hobby, i just bought the meade polaris 127mm EQ (first telescope), But I regret it when I realize that it is a "bird jones" model, and from what I've heard, they are somewhat "mediocre" (the 2x barlow lens in the focuser makes aberration). Now I am trying to sell it since I saw this telescope (this skywatcher), which does not have the barlow lens in the focuser and it has a large diameter, but I have been thinking about it, or i keep the polaris or sell it and buy this one, which at least In my country, it is almost at the same price as the 127mm Polaris, I would be grateful for the help, Thanks.
This SW will give better results. If you do get a barlow, don`t by cheap and get a fully multi-coated one. Another option is the SW 130P EQ2 . Shorter FL but better quality mirror. Thanks for watching.
is this a bird jones design ? what is the physical measurement of the tube ? close to 900mm i hope

Very good first scope. Easy to carry around in two parts. The mount , then the tube.
Hi.
Which Telescope would you recommend of the Explorer 130 or the Heritage 150??
Heritage for wide field views and portability. Explorer if you prefer Planetary and Lunar
@@44messier for pictures of the moon, plantes, stars...
Which gives the better picture? (the most details)
You need a scope with a driven mount
@@44messier so the Explorer 130 with a motor..??

How do you use it? I pointed it directly at a full moon away from light pollution and air pollution and couldn’t see a thing.

Hello. Are you able to fit a DSLR camera on this eyepiece mount for astrophotography?
Hello. This subject is mentioned in the video at 3.40 where you will find the answer to your question. Thank you for watching
Northern Optics my apologies. I don’t know how I missed that lol. That’s for the reply!
Can u connect phone with it ?
Yes. But will only be suitable for Lunar images
Would it be hard to retro fit a motor? Aware there is a motorised version... I've just seen a second hand version without and considering options 😃
RA motors are available and easy to fit. One is basic, and the other version has a multi-speed handset. We do have some on order, but have no ETA.

Is it possible to prime focus (without eyepiece) with a dslr for open field shots to capture objects like clusters and nebulae at f/6.9?
You will be able to use a DSLR prime focus. But achieve PF you will need to use a barlow. Meaning a 2x barlow will make it f13.8
