Hi Ronan. Thanks for comment That’s a good question. I will very much keep that in mind for next time. I went with first instinct and felt the grass was softer. But need these suggestions to help build my training. Thanks again 👍🏼
exactly, it was pretty low speed, could even brake to stop skidding. You cannot be sure what's in the grass man, risky move. After such crash I would check forks alignment.
Hi Robson. Agree on not knowing what is in the grass. Luckily no tree stump hidden by grass, could have been a different story. Fork alignment ok as go this checked on my return home. Agree also risky, but in the heat of the moment, despitew things slowing down as it happens it was a quick decision. A good learning experience though. thanks for comment and safe riding
Ive just watched your video and done exactly the same thing on the same bend... I ended up off about 200yrds past where you came off... Learning experience
These big bikes can be difficult to get a hang of and moving down to a 650 is probably a good shout if doing more off-road. I took a V-Strom1000XT to Iceland last year and it was nervy on the gravel roads... I wish I'd has a 650 or even a 400 instead... but those boys don't do as well on the motorways/highways to get to the lovely gravel roads :) sorry to watch your off but glad you were ok and good for others to learn.
Thanks for your message Arctic Rider. Yes a hefty beast indeed and as a novice off road rider not the best idea to take this off road. More to do with my skill than anything with the bike. A good lesson with no damage to bike or rider 👍🏼. Taking the 690 to the French TET at end of June. Fingers crossed I fair a bit better. Ride safe 👍🏼😎
Definitely a case of target fixation focusing on what you don't want to hit, then you hit it. We've all done it, but hopefully being aware of the phenomenon you can in theory avoid it happening again. I am very conscious now of looking at the point I want the bike to go to. As they say the bike goes where you look. If you've got two object you could hit, and a gap the bike will possibly fit through, focus on the gap :-)
So true mate. This was some years ago now and I have learnt a lot since then. Like you say, we have all done it. Thanks for watching and you comments. Cheers. Billy
Al Pap kit held up well. Although to be fair we were very lucky with the weather. Very warm. The gortex layer is under the main outer layer but most kit is like that. Very good kit and happy with it. 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi Michael. Thanks for your comment. Learnt that I should have more confidence in the tyres and bike to have managed that corner. Also, sit down and give a little bit more throttle. Next time! Sound like you have done some good trips. I have bought a 690 Enduro r as off to France for the TET end of June. A bike ore suited to those tracks and my capabilities 👍🏼👍🏼. Safe riding 😀👍🏼
Thanks Jacob. Out of the two I know which I prefer. Fingers crossed the harder surface experience remains aloof. A few more scratches perhaps but am sure it would still run without a problem 👍🏼👍🏼
Shit happens and even if you know with a 4wd car that you should accelerate if u slide on winter the brain says brake ;) . Same here you should been more to the right and cut through corner and give it gas but we live to learn my friend so just keep enjoying your bike =) . I owned a 1290 S now own a kawa zzr1400 but tomorrow prob gonna trade it in for a 1290 R ;)
Thanks Dan. Still loving the bike despite confidence a bit dented. Hard to get used to Bob lies giving more grip as you accelerate around a corner. It will come with practice, perhaps on a smaller bike before trying on the big KTM. Good luck on the trade in for an Adventure R. Let me know you go bro. Enjoy the ride 👍🏼
Im so split up if im gonna go with S or R. Hear alot of ppl say R is restricted in speed and more wobble at higher speeds etc =( . Godamn this feel so hard to choose i dont know what to say...
Dan Aronsson deciding factor for me was the spoke wheels. No worries taking it off road. You can with an S but would have to be careful on the cast wheels. The R is awesome, no regrets at all
You should know that in the corner you sit not stand. When you stand the rear shock dosen't force to swing arm and rear wheel. Your balance point is to high , only can help body balance and throtle control in this situation. More practice and next time you dont't crash. Look how Chris Brich do this, confidence and more throtle .
Hi Tomasz. Thanks for comment and since this I have of course researched the correct technique but am yet to revisit this. Looking at a smaller bike (690 enduro or Husky 701 to be able to practice this with more confidence. Safe riding 👍🏼
Hi Paul. So the bracket i bought is damaged. I seen this some months ago. Follow me on fb love big bike adventures 👍 and come and pick up some more skills
Hi Nigel. Now following you on FB 👍🏼 good page. Your bike looks the business. Just sold mine as can’t afford two bikes and was not sure that I could manage the big beast on some technical challenging sections of the French TET. So downgraded to the 690. Aim to buy another KTM large adv next year. This time without selling the other bike
I have the same Ktm with power commander v Rottweiler filter stage 3 and gpr Italian exhaust. I have some videos doing the White Rim if you want to see the motorcycle.
Hi mate... fun times, if you're not crashing you're not learning eh! Fellow UA-camr showing support, keep up the good vids
Hi Matt. Thanks for your message. Exactly right on the crashing and learning bit 👍🏼. Shame it was on the high 1290 😌 Safe riding and good luck. 👍🏼
Why didn’t you lock up the rear wheel and head left?

Ah mate. Brothers in arms 🙌. Hope you and bike doing ok! Thanks for watching
@@BillysBikeAdventures still a bit sore, was only on Saturday. Bent and broke a few bits on the bike but repaired most of it now...
I recently took my 1290 off road for the first time. It's a handful for sure. Glad you didnt break anything (on yourself or the bike)
Quite a handful. Was lucky on that occasion. Did you change your tyres to knobblies?
Billys Bike Adventures No I didn’t (which didn’t help). I also forgot to switch to off road mode.
Easily done when it’s your first time off Raid with a beast like the 1290 SA

I'm sure you would've made it round, it's all about having the confidence though, isn't it? Glad bike and, more importantly, rider ok!
Thanks keyop1970. A good lesson to have more confidence. Taken a smaller bike to France recently where I could practice better cornering 👍🏼

How did your gear hold. It looks like a Dainese Carvemaster jacket...

What did you learn ...I ridden Finnish gravel roads and Himalayan Manali to Leh....no offs, no tricks, right speed.... lucky man

Landing on so much grass is like landing on a mattress. I am glad you are ok but the true test for KTM is crushing it on a hard surface.

That's not a crash. That is side stand incident.
I know I know. Not the most impressive crash (thankfully) but I thought worth sharing for a laugh 👍🏼
I hope you know I was just joking. I know It still takes a while the get the seat out of you ass after any off. ;-)

@@BillysBikeAdventures 690 and 701 has poor suspension in stock . Try something lighter or do professional setting when you buy one.
Will defiantly do that. The 450 rally looks more up to spec
Target fixation, it seems.
Rd Rg it seems that way. Look where you want to go so they say. Clearly I was eyeing that ditch

Billys Bike Adventures yea your 690 looks mega. You doing kielder rally at the end of the month or Haggsbank?
Hi Nigel. No plans to but now you have mentioned them i will add them to my list of activities for next year. you up there on your beast?
Billys Bike Adventures hi. Yes for sure its my nw enduro bike 😂👍💪
Well definitely this Ktm with 160 horses it's not for novices
Hi Oscar. It certainly commands some respect does this KtM. This time round no real damage. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. What are you riding?
I have the same Ktm with power commander v Rottweiler filter stage 3 and gpr Italian exhaust. I have some videos doing the White Rim if you want to see the motorcycle.
Give it some gas for shits sake🤪🤪🤪
Hi Greg Thanks for comment 😂😂😂. I know, a little embarrassing but got to learn somehow 👍🏼
🙈
I know right, fortunately bike and rider all good
Your honest, most people would of blamed something other than their ability,
Thanks Lewis 👍🏼
Using maxxis enduro tyres, corner easily there full on knobbly
I was on TKC 80s. Needed to be seated in that corner to have gotten the full grip of the tyres. Would probably have been ok. more bottle next time
