- It doesn't happen often, but sometimes REAPER may crash. While I have never experienced it personally, I have seen it happen to others. Today we'll discuss how to recover a project that crashes when trying to load it.

Very helpful. My process is “pray to the all mighty reaper gods and offer a lamb for a sacrifice”. Doesn’t work so good.
Thank you so much! Love your videos! Always straight to the point and very helpful!
Thanks man i was gettin hella pissed that it wouldn't load and bringing it to offline mode atleast allowed me to render the individual tracks to bring back into the session for final mixing so that the vsts arent using system resources. Appreciate your video mane
Just saved me a couple of projects, thanks mate, subbed!
I could not seem to get things to work as you described. I went back to a prior instance of use, checked the auto backup folder, opened up a file from 10-25min earlier and all was well. Thank the LORD. And thanks for the channel, my first time here. Looks like good info. I would like to see some automation basics, and some final mix and self mastering videos if possible.
Thanks Again 🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing, Myk !
You single-handedly saved my project, huge thanks man
Aye, you did all the work. Thanks for watching!
Thanks You Man you just saved my life !!!! i was about to quite reaper and go to cubase bot you got me fix my problem !!!!! thanks thanks!! :)
Awesome stuff! One small suggestion: If you have a crashed project, when you load it in recovery mode, you can use the project bay, and that way you can bring FX online of the same type, so for example, if you have an EQ that's on any track, and one of them doesn't crash, would stand to reason that other instances of it are also not crashing the project, so in project bay you can just bring online all instances of the same FX with one click :)
Very useful, thanks for sharing this tip!
Very useful info, thanks :)
Thank you so much, it worked!
Super useful Myk! Cheers.
Thank you, you’ve saved the day

Zou saved like 6 hours of work. Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope you also enabled automatic timestamped backups as well?
I went to hit subscribe and was met with a "unsub?". Oh I guess I subbed already.
Thank you very much for this! Your explanation has saved my project and sanity lol. I value your existence B)>+
Did you have a plugin that was causing issue? Curious to get more information as to what you were experiencing 🤔
Thank you
Is there any possibility recovering a project which had crashed before it could be saved?
You videos are always great Myk.
Mine crashed and when I load up the fxs offline 😒 It crashed when I got to file
Hi, I tried to set up reasonus and reaper and am not able to open to any of my projects in reaper . I went into non plugin safe mode and reaper will not open that way either. I appearently created a bad CSI ( I think its called in preferences, ( you know the section where you can create a reaper remote for you tablet) that section. I am new to reaper. so please bare with me. I addd the osi controller to run reasonus that way.
I went into safe mode- no plugin mode I mean and reaper wont open. I also re istalled reaper, and also turned of the faderport 16. I cant open anything in reaper except the splash page where i can get into safe mode. How do I get to preferences and delete the reasonus, CSI that I created?
Please help.
Thanks you so kindly in advance.
Lou
****ALSO IT MIGHT BE CALLED CSI. Im trying to oadd a controller for reasonus. But want to remove the CSI It was set up incorrectly and causing reaper to not to open.
life saver
Awesome thank you. How do I get that FX panel you have with the plugin chains in red?
Sorry for the delayed response. I may have to go back and watch this video, but typically red in your effects means that an effect is offline. Is this what you mean?
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper No just how you have the FX panel show up like that above the mixer. Is that some kind of theme you're using maybe? My FX panel is always a tab next to the mixer tab which is annoying
@@danielfeatherstone674 hmmm, perhaps a layout issue. FX above the mixer is the default, I'm pretty sure. If you have a sidebar, I'm guessing you have a theme and have chosen a sidebar layout, but I may be misunderstanding without seeing it.
Are you on my Discord server by chance? I think we can solve this with a few screenshots
I can't even open the proyect with FX offline:'(
Hi, could u make a video for when finishing songs and we want to keep it as a template, How we should be delete trash takes and bad recording files from project files?
male mano nadidi haji ? :P
I had a project that would hang Reaper on load because it had a 44.1 kHz sample rate hard set in the project settings while my interface was set to 48. Changing my interface to 44.1, opening the project and removing the hard setting fixed it, but the solution took time to find because of how not obvious it was.
That's interesting, REAPER typically resamples on the fly without issue. How'd you stumble across doing that as a fix?
Eh buddy I’m still getting parson error with both methods u just showed won’t load even without effects any other ideas? Or is my file lost ? After I check the open with offline box the error parson box appears?
@@billhinsperger8120 you able to hop in Discord and post some screenshots or video? There should be a link to join in most of my videos
@@LetsTalkAboutReaperya I took a quick look in there there all saying the same thing as you I used shift trick to get to that window then when I do the offline truck the same error window pops up sayin parsons error
Hi my last saved project file is error...**there was an error parsing the specified project...pls guide me what should i do???
Do you happen to have timestamped automatic backups enabled? Do you have an .rpp-bak file in the project directory?
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper Yeah i got it thanks a lot...♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
If you don't have the timestamp auto backup option enabled, here's a quick video on the topic
ua-cam.com/video/RrzDOL_yzmc/v-deo.html
I had a project quit and tell me there wasn't enough memory. When I restarted Reaper, all of the audio following my edit was gone totally. No more audio. Am I screwed? Or can I recover the missing audio. It's not in the backup file. Thanks?
I'm afraid it may be gone if disk space or physical RAM/memory was an issue.
You running Windows or Mac, and has the underlying issue been resolved?
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper Running Windows 10, and apparently the issue was transient.
Do you have automatic timestamped backups enabled at this point?
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper Alas, no. 😢
Hey Myk, Your videos and great. Thanks for creating such great and valuable content!
I have watched your video, but I still have an issue with a project. When opening the crashing Reaper project with plugins offline, I manually put all of them back online; the Reaper project does not crash, but it crashes once I load it again with plugins activated.
So I still cannot identify what plugin is causing the issue. Is there a way to look at some .log files in Reaper or Windows that can help me identify which plugin is causing the issue? Thank you for your help!
You may need to reinstall REAPER, there's an option to have it write to the event log that is not turned on by default. You can install the same or newer version on top of itself and be sure to toggle that option, and hopefully the event log will yield some answers.
This sounds like a tough one to troubleshoot 🤔
Thank you, Myk for your response. It's a very strange behavior but I am quite sure it's not Reaper, but some plugin. I will try to reinstall it and toggle that option.
You might hop on our Discord for further assistance, perhaps the hive mind has experienced this before
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper yeah that's cool I've just joined the group, thanks!
If I do not save the project and suddenly my pc turns off, will it be recovered next time I open reaper?
I'm not entirely sure on that. I "think" it depends on if you have the "default recording path with project is unsaved and no recording path is configured" option enabled in Options>Preference>Paths
I saw on my own installation today where that path, combined with Automatic Backups, seems to have recent data from when i was just goofing off but didn't save a project

Granted i typically save a new project as soon as I start something
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper Its available in every other daw. But I didn’t find anything like that in reaper😭😭😭 I need that badly🥺.
So other DAWs arbitrarily save things just from opening it? Forgive me for asking but why not just setup automatic backups and get into the habit of naming projects when you start, even if it's nothing more than the date and "writing session."
REAPER does have this function, just gotta check the path setting and make sure you have automatic backups enabled. Otherwise, it's just a folder full of .WAV files not necessarily associated with a project.
@@LetsTalkAboutReaper I didnt understand, but is there any way to do so in reaper? Please answer.
My laptop loves to randomly shut down. Hope this works :)
reaper crashes all the time when working with midi.
reaper error parsing specified project?
Possibly just a corrupted project file. Do you have any backup files for the project?
You may consider posting the project file on the REAPER forum and letting Justin or Schwa check it out. The project file is just a test file at heart and can be opened and read as plain text in any text editor, but one has to know what they're looking for
