The Lake Myvatn area in Iceland is one of the most spectacular geological areas in the world. The volcanic systems that gave rise to the geothermal areas of Hverir and lie on the Krafla fissure zone are all to be found around Lake Myvatn. The steam spouting, bubbling sulphuric mud pools and the otherworldly atmosphere of Hverir are a highlight of Lake Myvatn. Not to be missed also, are the Hverfjall tephra cone found similarly on the Krafla fissure and the undulating lunar mounds of Skutustadir. To think that all these incredible landscapes are within a few miles of the Myvatn Lake is truly mind blowing! Go with us here on this journey, but even better, go here on your own!
