Good RDLR players use their arm under their own leg. This makes impossible to pin RDLR leg to floor, also arm under RDLR leg makes space between legs and torso much harder to access. And with that arm under RDLR leg guard player can effectively mess with passers base. If guard player doesn't use his arm under leg shedding the RDLR hook and kne cutting is relatively simple thing to do

How would you counter that arm under the RDLR?

Yes or they control Danaher's left arm so he can't push the hook down.

The position you’re describing sounds like mantis guard, Keenan has a good vid explaining how it works. I think waiter sweep is the main technique from that position

This is mistitled. This video is about passing the RDLR, now about playing it. Got one on how to play RDLR?

I prefer SHAWN WILLIAMS "Bear Trap" to counter DeLaRiva and Reverse DeLaRiva guard . SHAWN WILLIAMS is black belt of Renzo Gracie whom received his black belt the same day as John Donoher .

I'm just a dumb white belt, but isn't the part where he used both knees and removed the hook ending up in closed guard. Why did he not keep going around the hips to side control? Again, I'm just a white belt. I'm probably missing a small detail somewhere.

Seems like he ends in half-guard, not closed guard. If you watched John enough, you probably know he loves half guard, both top and bottom position. Also the opponent often manages to slide their shin inside when you try to pass to side control from knee cutting

In each of the options he just gets to a good guard passing position, since it’s just about dealing with RDLR. Guard passing is a pretty wide topic and this video would have been much longer if he also went over the various options for guard passing.
