I'm in Norway and I don't want these christian nationalists to influence us. The political discussion in the US affect us, and we want that influence to be positive, not christian. Luckily it hasn't done much negative at all in Norway, but let's make sure it never will and put that nonsense in the grave. Go Aron Ra!

I live in the UK, I can barely get people to talk about politics and climate change. It's something that is over there. Facing up to the decisions we need to make as individuals and the consequences they would cause, people just don't want to even think about.
Trying to get them to deeply thing about constitutional issue, I don't even bring it up as I cannot even start discourse on the simple stuff.
It's sad to say, but my own experience has lead me to believe most humans are selfish and extremely short sighted. I've watched people make bad decisions, that come back to haunt them, literally within minutes, because they cannot be bothered to take the slightest bit of inconvenience.
I seem to be in the tiny minority that actually seems to give a shit about how everyone acts, and therefore considers my actions. My other half thinks I'm a fool for doing the right thing, when others are taking advantage of a situation, and I refuse to. But if people don't start acting like they are living in a social society, and their actions have consequences for everyone then we're all (more) screwed.

Specifically a passage in the rule book that states "In case of disagreements, whoever bought the game has final say". Here in the UK we have a party that has been in power too long and clearly cares nothing for the people. At the same time the usual opposition has fallen apart and offers little or no challenge. Many of us are deeply concerned about our economy and society falling apart. But what we see in the US, in the rise of a right wing Christian theocracy, is a whole other level of existential dread. Kudos to people like Andrew and Aron for speaking out. And before anyone tells me it's not my business, the US is the most powerful and the most influential country in the world and what happens there, affects us all.

Almost like the free market was a complete lie/grift to try and extract as much wealth from the bottom to the top as quickly as possible. A reverse Robin Hood if you will.

Just yesterday my 84 year old mom told me about how she as a small kid met american soldiers when the war was over and how they always had chocolate and fruits for the starving german children. I thing we're partly to blame because some of us have been to passive and ironically treating religious freedom as a sacred cow to appease the Buffet Christians and also getting easily trapped into their culture war and somewhat being social conservatives ourselves only when it comes to PC and cancellations. We can't beat them by using fire against fire.

For some reason I can't seem to be able to find the terms "Justice or Justices" within ARTICLE III of that funny part in that Constitution they want to call Judicial.
I am sure that if the "Founding Fathers" of the Constitution meant for there to have been something called a "Justice" or "Justices" in the Supreme court,,, don't ya think they would have written that term in ARTICLE III?

It's difficult to explain to straight, cis, white people how surreal and alarming it is to watch other people, both in and out of government, debate and argue my legitimacy as a person and whether I'm deserving of the same rights as everyone else. I've watched it in regards to my sexual orientation, I'm currently watching it in regards to my gender identity, and if Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas have their way, the supposedly "closed" issue of sexual orientation will be coming up again in the near future. I don't think whether a person's identity is valid should be up for debate, yet the Supreme Court, the highest judicial body in this country, is all too happy to do just that. It's distressing for me now, in my 30's, but I remember very keenly what it was like when I was a kid. I'm still damaged from all the years I spent thinking I was an aberration, and now they're putting another whole generation through it again. There are times I think our species *deserves* to go extinct due to climate change. I just wish we weren't killing the rest of the world along with us.

I think the extreme postions held by some people and religious grifters are making people think more critically about religion. It's a lot easier to accept your religion when all it asks of you is to waste 2 hours on Sunday than if it's asking you to let your wife die because a medical procedure is now sin. Or to let your children go hungry because your pastor needs another private jet. They are doing a pretty good job at making more people leave religion by themselves.

Throw Matt Dillahunty a chair and that would be a drunken conversation I would love to be in. I've been warning about the religious right nut jobs since I went to one of their school in 8th grade (back about 83 or so). In my wildest dreams I never expected a failed insurrection and the SCOTUS issuing religious edicts :(. Sad thing I'm seeing with so many people of my daughter's generation is that they don't care unless it directly involves them directly :(.
    BTW - Happy Birthday AronRa.

I honestly think he overrates the value of "truth" as a guiding principle. Most people stick to religion for the numerous utilities it provides, regardless of their factual value. They allow for a somewhat coherent worldview, and offer a refuge from the world where everything, from our health, through education, all the way to love is commodified and seen as a market good. Tis not an accident that the more equal and opportunity-rich nations like Scandinavia are also less religious. As comrade Lenin said, no science book can eradicate religion as long as the widespread, ubiquitous systemic injustice exists. Had we truly desire people to focus on this world rather than whatever comes afterwards, the first step is to make life on this planet less of a hassle. 🚩

Don’t get me wrong, they *are* hypocrites, but holding people to a double standard doesn’t actually run counter to conservative ideology… because treating people equally isn’t a core value of theirs.

A lot of the power these wrong people have (holding wrong ideas and are the wrong people for the positions they take), comes from the shifting of attention to federal elections.
People are misled by national channels to think federal elections are important and local elections not so much ,if at all, (not necessarily intentionally, but definitely by the nature of their content), when the exact opposite is true.
Most of the effect on the average citizen comes from local government, and that's also where the average citizen has the most effect.
If people won't neglect local elections the federal would be of lesser consequence, because the authoritarian minority which always votes at extremely high percentage, won't be able to win enough local seats, won't be able to redistrict a state to favor a future win for their dwindling numbers, won't be able to favor restriction of rights, and their representatives won't "graduate" to federal office where they won't be approving of authoritarian judges and voting to restrict rights federally.
    Vote locally.
Vote for the not-crazy candidate that isn't backed by dark money PACs.

@@Refertech101 Uh huh. Every time someone says 'woke'... it sounds like someone objecting to respect for gay, trans and people of different colour.
I understand the notion that 'woke' might be going too far the other way... but for me that term has come to symbolize intolerant attitudes.
