Blacklisted scripts get too much attention, studios always want to hire a director that is at a low point in their careers so they can control exactly what goes into the film and how they chose to shoot it....taking zero risks. A studio can fuck up an amazing script so fast it's crazy.

  • @andrethomas6515

This movie is good it does something different . Instead of suspense and drama it is curiosity and tension . Most thrillers follow that rule build up suspension through drama but this movie builds the audiences curiosity through tention between the 2 opposite characters . It makes you constantly question if John travolta is friend or foe .or why deniro didn't kill him in the war . Movies that go against convenient are not bad movies just misunderstood .

Dark_Joker1991 Productions If you've ever played gears of war or read the books, you'd know that John Travolta has neither the voice, face, nor the body to play Marcus Fenix. They are making a GOW movie by the way Universal is making it.

Bruce Willis has made some straight to DVD second rate movies lately. When I watched Fire With Fire on Netflix, was surpised how well it was made. I don't think it got released, but it's a good one. The main stars are Josh Duhamel and Rosario Dawson, Willis is a supporting character.

I just saw this, had never heard of it. I agree that the concept was good, but they could have done so much better. Travolta is Travolta and the moment I realised he plays a Serb I thought "this might be gold". By that I mean it could be so bad it gets gold but it didn't. It just got "meh". "Ah so now the tables have turned... wait now the tables turned again? Whaaat!"

E grade is very rarely used if there is an F. He takes it from letter grades and in almost all cases the E grade exists if the F isnt there as the F is considered too "mean." Seeing as Chris uses an F then an E isn't necessary

In the beginning you say the screenplay was on a list of "well-regarded" screenplays. But a minute or so later you critique the screen play. I'm interested in hearing more about the list; any place one can read these online? Given all the grief directors get for their works, I would love to see a review show where a bunch of other directors review another director's film. Maybe they could even learn something.

If John mctirnan directed it, Bruce Willis would've played a Rambo-like veteran, and Robert dinero would've played the serbian, because he's a much better actor than John Travolta, and I could easily picture him doing that. With all that in a nutshell, it would've become a masterpiece.

Well it's not really all bad. I'm from Croatia, which basically has the same language as Serbians do and watching John Travolta just completely butcher the Serbian language with the few words he managed to mumble was pretty damn entertaining. That and the ending. I liked the ending, I felt that it made sense considering the view points of both the characters and the joke detail was pretty cool. The "start telling a joke and don't finish it till the end" was done in a few Serbian movies as well.

And it's the BOSNIAN WAR the one they're discussing about in the film. Read some history, and for history I'm not talking about how Abe Lincoln cut a tree or how you GLORIOUSLY ended the second war by bombing the big bad Japanese, go see what happened after the WW2, in Europe it wasn't exactly "happily ever after"...Especially for the Slavic countries.

I just finished watching this movie and I am stunned, what a waste of their talent and my time this movie was.You have these two really good actors, Robert De Niro who was just really boring and John Travolta who walked around like a Terminator sporting a ridiculous fake beard and what looks like black spray paint on his head, I guess to match the fake beard. The injuries they put upon each other didn't seem to really faze either man with the exception of De Niro's wounded calf. Then what about the vehicle flipping over around 11 times before it came to a standstill? We know they weren't wearing seat belts. De Niro is crawling on his belly but the Terminator from Serbia once again shakes it off and walks away from the crash like he just came out from a salon after having a pedicure. The only part of that movie that made me feel even the slightest bit of emotion or anxiety was when the Serbian had his arrow pointed in the direction of the son, wife and baby. I was thinking maybe he'd spear the son in the leg or the wife in the shoulder with an arrow and really get things going but no. Also, shouldn't the Serbian's face have been really bruised and quite swollen after having an arrow go through one cheek and out the other instead of looking like he'd just eaten a Sloppy Joe and didn't have a napkin to use. And right after that the Terminator was talking as if nothing had happened, ya right!
I think it could have been so much better then it was, very disappointing. Too bad. Zzzzzzzzzz.

To be honest if this movie is a box office flop and people don't remember it that much another, hopefully more talented, director should pick it up. If someone told me that a movie about Travolta and DiNero trying to wage war on one another in the woods. Well I mean I would already be in the theater. So if this movie is well a failure another director should pick it up and try to make a new movie with a similar concept. And obviously different actors. Love the review, keep it up chris

I made it until the hunt began and the immortality complex kicked in. Somebody should have been MUCH more hurt than they were, thus basically ending the story then and there. I was already bored beyond redeeming interest, so I just fpund something else.
If you want a similar concept of two former soldiers/hunters with conflict that's tied to the Bosnian war, one of which is older - try The Hunter (I believe that's the title) with Tommy Lee Jones. It has its flaws but its by FAR a better movie. Kinda like The Fugative meets Rambo.

have you noticed how most films seem to be making these mistakes in the last 3 to 4 years or so, what gives? Directors and studios seem to be constantly given good scripts, good actors and good concepts that they then keep butchering, destroying and messing with - I don't get it, the last star wars movie is one of the best examples of this, it practically ruined star wars for 99.9% of fans and people in such a low-down, dirty, cheeky, ridiculous and pointless way and it seems to be the fashion or standard procedure for studios, producers and directors to totally ruin good projects these days!?

Ghost Rider is such a bad movie, but am I the only one who thinks Daredevil was actually decent? I thought the re-imagining of Kingpin and Bulls-eye really worked well. (By the way, did you know that Frank Miller, arguably the greatest comic-book writer of all time, and the guy who made Man Without Fear (Daredevil graphic novel), had the idea of making Bulls-eye the way he is in the film?) I don't understand how bad directors continually get hired to direct new movies. Mark Steven Johnson hasn't made anything good to date, has barely directed anything in the last ten years, and yet, he gets to work with DeNiro and Travolta on a script that's supposedly a hot commodity. That confuses me. Who thought that was a good idea? Go watch "First Blood" instead. It want some great actors hunting each other through a treacherous forest with suspense and drama, stick with that movie.

Yeah, saw it. Not the best. The movie was just; "I have the upper hand" "No I have the upper hand" "No now I have the upper hand" "Not so fast, I now have the upper hand"

I actually disagree with you a little Chris :P I've seen some truly awful films this year, but I thought this one had a lot more going for it than what you describe in this review. I thought the artsy religious stuff gave the film some edge, and it worked for me. I agree that it needed suspense, and all the actual one-on-one stuff in the woods was underdeveloped and the concept was underused. But the film's outcome was rewarding, and I thought De Niro delivered a good performance. Gave it a C.

You didnt mention, why john travolta was hunting dinero down. You didnt talk about the scenes where they torcherd eactother,or the badass scene where travolta got an arrow through his face...come on man! Jyst because you hated it doesn't mean others will.

Cheesycurve 54 I was wanting to see him thrown off the cliff... but I'm pretty warped like that. But I guess they were going for the 2 wrongs don't make a right, anyone can repent ending.
