Love your attitude about the increased public land pressure. A lot of guys could have been really perturbed by that. That’s why you’re a paragon of our sport. Thanks for the entertaining video and lessons
I think it's extremely cool how you guys are so good at hunting public land. I've been doing it past 3 years and hope this year will be my year to get one finally down
I’m 70 this august been bow hunting 36 years 2 bucks hand full of does and just now learning to think like a buck knowing Dan is trying to kill me. Keep trying to apply his knowledge to your area. Good luck 🍀
In Mississippi swamp hunting like that in early season can be very dangerous. I've seen too many cottonmouths to be comfortable walking through something like that. A couple of us drag small kayaks or canoes, but any way you cut it that's EXTREMELY difficult hunting. I'm just amazed that Dan consistently takes on environments like that. This man is one of the finest whitetail hunters I've ever come across, and why his channel doesn't have 250k subs I'll never know. He's SO much better than those wannabes who kill all their bucks on perfectly managed Midwest deer "refuges!" Dan does it the hard way, and I love him for it!
love your vids, love your info you provide.your tips help alot.keep it up.i dont hunt public land only private but the way you find beds in swamps and ridges is amazing
Dan/Mario it was so cool last night seeing y'all hunt the acorns I was doing about the same thing, keep making videos there awesome real world hunting. Way down here in Florida, I bow hunt the dog hunt management land along with many other hard core guys. Its a for sure challenge with these educated deer every year. I'm pushing the envelope at the edge of the swamp tonight an further the rest of the week, thanks for all your expertise you gave me a new perspective last year when I found you on UA-cam.....Mario be sure to bring your camera......
Awesome video. I’m also noticing the pick up in early season pressure on public. I need to look for Marsh that’s a bit nastier compared to what public land by me has here in rock county WI. Appreciate all the help and tips!
Love the update video. Ive used some of your tactics along with the THP gang. Im close. Im gonna hopefully get shot at a good buck. Im super close to bedding. Good luck Mr. Dan. I as many have said will buy some beast sticks when they come available. Keep it outside!
Man I’m digging your videos glad I came across one and now watching every one I can very informative and like how you are straight forward. I hunt public land here in southern West Virginia and as I don’t have swamps I always have hunted the bedding areas like you and some things I’m doin right but after watching your videos I think I have learned a couple things I need to change!! Thanks man!! Peace on your path and good luck hunting
Mr. Beast, I live in Maine. Huge property swamps and food everywhere, come here and help me. 8-10-12-14 monsters Such a big piece, too big? Deer sign everywhere, I need some BEAST tactics. Hard to narrow down.
Early season is a good time to get out and explore new spots, my state opened up a few weeks ago. it has been hot out, but here in the mid-atlantic it will be 90 degrees until January, we don't even get a fall anymore. so i have been pounding the woods hard looking for movement and sign, i already have seen a lot of activity. this season should be an exciting one, good luck.
Love videos Dan. Just found a big creek bottom area off a huge lake system. One main creek about 15 yards wide with lots of small feeder creeks. Takes some work to get there with all the stumps but tons of sign and its loaded with water oaks. Got some pics of couple 160 in bucks cant wait for a big cold front
Hey dan penny for your thoughts. I got a spot with a stud buck on it but there are also cows that come thru time to time. Will cows keep a mature buck out of a area
Illinois bow season starts Oct 1st...... how do you suggest i know where the hot white oaks are that first week ? Scour the woods a couple of weeks before maybe ? So far they all appear to have dropped and look rotten when i crack them.
13:45 that deer spotted your climbing sticks and knew something was not right. Funny how deer notice any little thing that is different in their neighborhood. Just a new branch that fell the night before they notice it and give it a wary look over. New piece of trash blew in on the wind they look it over. I've had deer notice my pull up rope hanging and spook off so I always pull that up, roll it up and put it in my pocket now. Us humans, new neighbors move in a couple houses down the block and we do not notice they are there for months. LOL
That sucks. I am just north of you. Two 3.5 s in 20 years on public and run into about one a year. Few years more few years less. Good luck this year bud.
@Tyrion Targarian you can on shoot what is in your area. If you are in a area that only 5% of population is over 3.5 years old good luck. I say you want to hold out for the top third age class.
Deer movement right before dark is always exciting and think its a big buck or first light! In texas that marsh been coveres in snakes! Cant wait till next one!
Hi Dan, How late into the season do you key in on the acorns? Do you still key on those when October comes? Or is it typically over with by that time where you hunt. I key in on that also opening weekend then I usually am not able to get out until mid October. Then I typically focus on ag and getting between bedding and the ag fields on public also. Then I focus on funnels during the rut. I've learned a lot from watching your channel. Thanks for being informative and not a Hollywood production. Tom
I hunt a fairly large marsh in south central Wisconsin. Blessed to have around 100 acres private in the area i can hunt, all surrounded by public. There have been large bucks harvested out of this marsh every year, theres even a taxidermy shop right nearby with about 10 mature bucks that have been harvested out of here over the years. I do my fair share of aerial scouting, and have narrowed my sights in on some good ground way out in the marsh. The only problem being that its on the other side of a creek and that the marsh out there is nasty. Some spots the grass is 9 feet tall and the ground exceedingly wet, you really have to watch your foot placement as ive had a leg go straight down before. I know for a fact that there has been no human out there for a very long time. I'm hoping i can get out there by canoe one evening and catch a buck coming out of bedding, or maybe a rut hunt when all it takes is one hot doe and 5 bucks come following it out of the marsh. Love watching your videos and good luck this season. Nothing is safe when the big buck serial killer is out and about ;)
These 20 minute ish videos are excellent. I’m going to purchase a pair of waders from Tidewe. I need to grab my ..... and get out deeper like yourself. Is there any specific model you suggest? Which model do you wear? Do you keep them on in stand or do you sometimes take them off and just out your boots on. I’m a newbie to waders. Ty
I wear both the Neoprene and the PVC. The insulated ones are nice for cold deep water but they get real hot if you walk any distance in them, and you sweat a bit in them. The PVC's are light and can be worn dor greater distances, but I tend to change out or them because they make a little noise.
Dang Dan, Hey bud FYI, I love your stuff so keep on keeping on. And some day when your not out of stock on your climbing sticks, I’m gonna hunt like Dan, The whitetail Serial Killer. Peace always my brother and Hunt Hard or stay Home.
Great video..just starting to hunt public land out here in my state of Washington, this state is overlooked because of everyone elk crazy out here..but we have some monster whitetail for sure.
Well that's the definition of "Going through hell or high water" to get your buck. I'd say the channel name pretty much fits! When are you guys going to come down to Texas and do some Public Hunting? I'd certainly be willing to meet you and show you the places I know.
Cool video Dan! Not seeing hardly any acorns this year in central Minnesota compared to last year. Can't figure out where the Bucks are moving to and from. Mixture of swamps, marshes, ag fields surrounding me. Still not much of anything for sign
@@thehuntingbeast I noticed heavy browse on stinging nettle tops. Theres tons of it where I hunt. Walked up on quite a few does mid day browsing but no bucks!

I had the same kind of thoughts when I was younger. But, over time you view it less as a competition, and more as a way of life. There has been many times I have given one of my good spots to a complete stranger I meet in the marsh who seems to be struggling. @@thehuntingbeast thrilled to have you respond Dan! I don't think I have ever viewed it as a true competition. Mostly I just want to get away from folks. I've got 2 spots right by me.that are very very small, but they are canoe access only. So I'm generally on my own. Thanks for the reply Dan.
Exactly what I needed up late working on a sunday night.....dan...so if your a couple miles back...those bucks are still going to the private land agg fields closer to the roads and vehicles even if it is a few miles away?
Right now they are hitting the acorns hard, but most of the time, if im out a mile or more, Im often not far from private or ag. Its just I can't legally come in that way.

Sticks should be available very soon... Sorry for the delays. We are doing our best.
