- This is the opening used in the 2 specials History of Trunks and Bardock Father of Goku.
The one in Bardock Father of Goku only differs with the video. The video in BDFOG is the one used before the super saiyan was shown.
So it ends with gokus power pole scene instead of Goku transforming.
This one is the Super Saiyan ending.

This intro is amazing. Idk why people complain about it since it was made to reflect the dark tone of Bardock-The Father of Goku and The History of Trunks. Both of which shows the heroic characters getting killed in the end

Uh actually almost everyone dies in these two movie.

Holy fuck, i tend to forget how dark Z was. Saiyan, Namekian and then Human genocide in 3 Arcs straight and they didn't even censor it. How they got away with showing genocide on kids TV slot is beyond me.

The Opening was more fit for the darker Dragon Ball Z movies such as the Bardock The Father of Goku & The History Of Trunks

Ninja Buddha yeah because those two specials are dark as hell where the hero loses... It's pretty fitting.
Eeyup. While a lot of people like to rag on this theme for not fitting DB as a whole, given how dark those two specials were, having Cha La Head Cha La or the usual Faulconer Productions theme play before them would've been incredibly jarring.

@@intodarkness-jy6mp I wouldn't really call Bardock a villain but not exactly a hero either. He tried to save his race and challenged Frieza when nobody else would help because of a vision of the future so I'd say hes a bit more heroic than villainous

Even though this theme was only used for two movies, it still stands in my top 3 for anime intros.

2010thekingofkings Well I mean with a new series out, it would kind of be pointless to try and bring this back. And I feel like they'd have a hard time finding a plot to go with the song, as the History of Trunks' plot deals with the near extinction of the earth and everything on it.

This is the most badass and the most epicness opening ever. Man this was one of my favorite openings of DBZ ever back when I was a kid. It shows how ruthless it was back then in the DBZ world. DBZ was one crazy era ever.

The History of Trunks has been added as the latest DLC for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. That's what brought me here.
I like the contrast in tone of the video and music. Like it's trying to say, "Those were some fun times, but they're gone and never coming back."
Always found this theme interesting. It has a tribalistic tone, reminds me of the saiyans themselves. Like if they did a full origins special on the saiyans and they're original planet this would fit perfect
They sort of did. This theme plays in 2 (canon) specials being 1. History of Trunks and 2. Bardock: Father of Goku which happens to be about the Saiyan's history (or at least just Goku's dad and the destruction of Vegeta). It's also supposed to be dark since both star characters of these films loose.

This OP really makes the English dub cool. The weird metal with the happy classic CHA-LA HEAD CHA-LA animation to go with TV special's dark story. Gohan looking very happy and everyone alive to then be greeted into the opening scene when Goku dies. Just flat out contrast (sorry if im such a fan)

Me and my lil bro (at the time) had a vhs copy of "the History of Trunks" my aunty bought us at K-Mart and we used to watch this movie ragged, but jammed out every time this shit popped up, Loved every bit of it and was honestly my 1st introduction to the show and is why the entirety of the Android/Cell saga is my favorite till this day.

This is my all favorite opening. I love the guitar in this opening and it saddens me that it's only in a couple movies. I remember, I would skip over the openings, pause the show and play this one ing instead, or just mute the original and have this playing in the background and unmute it when I watched the show

I'm honestly gonna remember this theme from this year. Because I stopped watching Dragon Ball for 5 years, and in October I watch the History Of Trunks movie after a long period of forgetting the cast and everything and it made me cry and made me feel self conscious for the future. Who's to say we can experience the History of Trunks one day?
Possibly, I mean the antichrist uses the world leaders as his puppets that's why the world is so corrupt you know, but hope not 🙂

Fucking amazing went with the mood & vide & slide show as the credits are rolling of trunks going back in time and defeating frieza and meeting goku , best fucking shit ever

This was also used on the original release of Lord Slug, but when they went through and touched up the old movie dubs they swapped it out for the Mark Menza theme most of the other movies use, but it got kept for the Bardock and Trunks specials since they're TV specials so it seemed like a neat way to differentiate them from the theatrical movies, at least that makes sense to me as a reason anyway, I don't know what the actual reason was if it wasn't that.
I have the OG releases, Lord Slug uses the Bruce Faulconer theme, not this one.

Myth: super saiyan 2 goku was slightly teased for a split second before finishing power up at the end of the intro. And no one ever caught this...maybe.

How did the dragon ball franchise go from such a dark sombre world full of chilling tension amazing storylines full of uncertainty with well fleshed out characters while having the occasional silly/comedic moment to whatever super is supposed to be is something I'll never understand
Ocasional? The last main villain was literally a huge man-child pink round creature who turned people into candy.
“Chilling” and “dark” were things that were greatly exaggerated by the fanbase since that’s never what DB was about.

@@Cr102yto be honest i actually have a greater appreciation for the buu saga, in retrospect. Buu was just a pure force of evil bent on destroying everything, sure that arc did get repetitive but it probably wasn't as bad as you remember, in fact buu finally destroyed the earth, something villains just said they'd do, mystic gohan, majin Vegeta, vegito, gotenks, Vegeta and Mr Satan's redemption were great. Also I disagree with DBZ not being dark and chilling, Frieza literally killed children on namek, not to mention his countless genocides, trunk's nightmare timeline, even buu turning people into candy and proceeding to eat them is scary, i mean imagine being turned into a chocolate bar, unable to move or emote, but you feel being eaten,not to mention cell drank people alive lol, Super had some cool moments and I won't lie the slice of life moments are wholesome and nice, but the tension that characterized DBZ just isn't there anymore, beerus and the other deities are cool but i feel they're overused, so much so that threats just seem miniscule, also i grew up with the funimation dub so i do know goku is portrayed much more heroically than the original Japanese, where while he is still a courageous warrior, his main motivation is his Saiyan drive to battle, so in super i understand how they've tried to stay true to his original characterization, yet I can't help but feel that the believable amounts of laid back heroism and maturity he had have been scraped in favor of a idiotic impulsive Goku who is ready to threaten the existence of entire universes just so he can fight? Its like his personality has gone the opposite way(on a side note I appreciate Vegeta's arc) so super is somewhere in between DBZ(fights and characters)and Dragon ball( slice of life, stakes not being nearly as high)

Anytime man, I remember this intro because I recorded the movie via VHS when I was in grade school, I still have the VHS Tape till this day I guess we can call that VHS Tape a relic of the past because the video/audio quality of it is horrendous lol
