tubes need to be vertical, not horizontal....................that allows natural heat flow
I understand your point about having vertical tubes for better heat flow and the chimney effect. Vertical tubing can indeed help with natural convection, allowing hot air to rise more effectively and distribute heat more evenly. This can be particularly important in heating systems to improve efficiency.
When designing or modifying a heating system, it's important to consider factors like airflow, heat distribution, and safety. Vertical tubing can be a good choice in many cases, but it's crucial to ensure that the system is properly engineered and installed to maximize its effectiveness while maintaining safety standards. Consulting with HVAC professionals or experts in heating systems can help you make the right decisions for your specific setup.

Your positive feedback is truly encouraging, and I'm grateful for your support. If you have any more suggestions or thoughts, feel free to share them. Thanks again for being a part of the community!"
Your idea is very nice but from where the air required for combustig the wood enters
@@lmtnI thought it was ruddy excellent have you ever thought of filling those tubes with sand or something and closing the ends off. Would that then continue to radiate heat even if the fire inside had died down I'm just guessing haven't got a clue about this stuff
Both are very neat you are skilled cheers , don’t let the morns get you down
"Thank you so much for your kind words! I appreciate your support, and I'll keep doing my best. Cheers, and I won't let the negativity bring me down!"
next time place the tubes up/down, that will give it a better air-flow.
Looks great. Would a small blower behind it help move the heat around the room more
"Thank you for your suggestion! Using a small blower behind the setup could indeed help distribute the heat more effectively throughout the room. It's a great idea to enhance the efficiency of the system. If you decide to try it, make sure the blower is positioned in a way that doesn't interfere with the airflow or create any safety concerns. Feel free to experiment and find the configuration that works best for you. Let me know if you have any other questions or if there's anything else you'd like to explore!"
nice design. I wonder if the tubes would work even better if you placed them vertically
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I appreciate your suggestion about placing the tubes vertically. I'll definitely consider that for future designs. Your input is valuable, and I'm always looking for ways to improve the functionality of the setup. Thanks again for your feedback!"
Maybe on an angle lower at the back so the hot air rising would have velocity into the room. I’d be curious
@lmtn Yes your build is a great design. I would suggest raise the tip of the tubes up in front and lower in the back. So the air flow through the tube is improved with more natural airflow and also with welding the tubes, all the way across the fire box instead of just spot welding them. That way you get maximum heat transfer into the tubes. Greatly improving the thermal efficiency. Just my opinion.
Place the tubes vertically and then add a 90 degree bend on the tops blowing away from the heater. That will give you two loops of air flow away, down, back to the heater, and then up and around again.@@lmtn
What do you expect the tubes to do? Distribute heat? If the combustion process was improved, the heat would be higher, fire would burn cleaner, and you would be radiating at 1100 F degrees instead of 400 F degrees. Get the combustion right and heat transfer would take care of itself.

nice idea, what about filling the tubes up with sand , then they absorb the heat and when fire dies down it still radiates heat to the room
That's a clever suggestion! Filling the tubes with sand could indeed enhance the heat retention capacity of the system. The sand would absorb heat during the burning process, and as you mentioned, it could continue radiating heat after the fire dies down. This could potentially improve the overall efficiency of the DIY heater.
If you decide to try this modification, make sure to consider the weight added by the sand and ensure that the structure can support it. Additionally, monitoring the performance and safety of the system is crucial.
If you have any more ideas or questions about the DIY project, feel free to share them. I'm here to assist or discuss any aspects you find interesting! 🔥🏡

Oh I forgot to say, it’s not good taking heat out of the firebox/combustion area. it lowers the efficiency of the burn. It would be a more efficient stove if you isolate the fire box. maybe with fire bricks. put a smoke shelf In about 2/3s of the way up and put all your tubes above or in the smoke shelf area so you take heat energy out of the exhaust air rather than from the combustion area. If you can add a secondary fresh air in the smoke shelf area to burn the glue gases. Just some thoughts. Good work.🎉
"Thank you for your insightful feedback and suggestions! 🤔 I appreciate your expertise in stove design. Isolating the firebox with fire bricks and implementing a smoke shelf for more efficient heat extraction from exhaust air are excellent ideas. Also, the addition of secondary fresh air for burning gases is a smart consideration. Your thoughtful input contributes to the ongoing improvement of the design. If you have more ideas or specific aspects you'd like to explore further, feel free to share. I'm grateful for your positive feedback and constructive thoughts! 🔥🛠️"
Hello! Thank you so much for your insightful comment! Your suggestions make a lot of sense and I appreciate the constructive feedback. I would definitely consider insulating with refractory bricks. Adding a secondary source of fresh air to the smoke shelf area for colloid gas burning also seems like a great idea. I will be testing these improvements to improve the stove's performance. Your positive encouragement means a lot-thank you!

Great design.
But if you angle the pipes so they're several inches higher in front, you can get some convection flow which will help with heat transfer. no?
Thank you for the compliment on the design! Angling the pipes so that they are higher in front can indeed create a convection flow, which can enhance heat transfer and distribution. This design adjustment can be particularly effective for radiant heating systems or other setups where heat circulation is crucial. By allowing hot air to rise naturally and circulate, you can improve the overall efficiency of the system and make better use of the generated heat. So, your suggestion has merit and can contribute to an even more efficient heating solution.
great design 👌👌
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it. Have you considered trying a similar design yourself?
If the tubes where placed vertically all the heat would be going up at the same level , the way he designed it the heat comes off the stove from different levels he’s a genius CHEERS

What is the guage and thickness of the iron sheet ?
The gauge and thickness of the iron sheet used in the video may not be specified in the content. If you are interested in replicating the project or need specific measurements, it's a good idea to contact the video creator directly or consult any provided project plans or materials list, if available. They should be able to provide you with the exact details you need for the project.
I didn't quite understand why the pipes of the stove are horizontal. If they were vertical, convection would release the heat more quickly into the air - about 10 times faster - and thus into the room. If necessary, the chimney effect of the pipes could be regulated with a flap.
That's an interesting suggestion. Vertical pipes for the stove could indeed enhance the convection effect and potentially improve heat distribution into the room. It's a valid point that adjusting the chimney effect with a flap could provide more control over the heat output. However, the design choices may vary based on the specific goals and constraints of the stove's design, such as space availability, materials, and intended use. Different configurations might be more suitable for different situations. Ultimately, it's important to consider these factors when designing or using a stove for optimal performance and safety.

Wouldn't having the exterior pipes oriented vertically increase airflow and air contact for heating? 🤔
Great observation, thank you! Vertical pipes could enhance airflow and heat transfer. Have you tried this approach in similar designs before?
@lmtn no but I have been thinking of similar ideas with fins, both interior and exterior, for various projects. For instance, fins on the exterior and interior of the exhaust pipe could capture and transfer more heat before exiting to the outside 🤔

The stove should be that much wider to have the pipe inside the stove, get real heat to the pipe, cut holes out for the pipes n have some box behind the stove built into the stove with a fan blowing
Thank you for your detailed suggestion! Integrating the pipe and adding a fan sounds efficient for heat distribution. Have you tried building a system like this before?

You take a welding machine and make the heaters of your dreams, but what do the extra parts you make do? Does it blow hot air or add moisture to the air?
It seems like there might be some confusion or curiosity regarding the additional parts created with the welding machine in your video. You can respond by providing more information on the purpose and functionality of the extra parts. Explain whether they contribute to blowing hot air, add moisture to the air, or serve any other specific functions in the heating system. Clear communication can help address your audience's inquiries and provide a better understanding of the modifications or additions made with the welding machine. If there's a specific intention or effect behind these extra parts, sharing that information would enhance the viewer's comprehension of your project.
The pipes should go UP the sides, not along the sides. That way they would induce their own draft for heat circulation.
Thanks for the suggestion! That sounds like a great idea. How do you think this change would impact efficiency and heat distribution?
@@lmtn @lmtn Thank you for your consideration. Your stove is otherwise a great design and very skillfully constructed.
Vertical pipes would greatly affect efficiency and heat distribution as your room's coolest air is on and near the floor. The hot air in the pipes rises, so it must pull in the cold air from below. This will induce a natural draft for the pipes. You will almost certainly feel it above the openings of the pipes. A facial tissue or a lighter held over a pipe opening once the stove is hot will show the upward draft. There will be a continuously rotating circle of air movement along each side of the stove, slowly pulling in almost all the air in the room for warming with less noticeably cold spots. The air movement along the floor will warm the floor up over time.

If you want to store heat fill and cap them off with sand in them, if you want to have more heat use a snake pipe from bottom to top lots of s turns, the heat would then draw through the pipe from bottom to top and circulate it around the room... convection
"Great suggestions! 🌟 Using sand to store and cap off heat is a smart way to enhance thermal mass, and incorporating a snake pipe with lots of S turns for convection circulation is a clever idea for maximizing heat distribution. Your insights add valuable options for improving the stove's efficiency and performance. If you have any more ideas or specific details you'd like to explore, feel free to share. You could just make a powerful fan heater using a fire and forced air this would be good to see
A fan heater using forced air and fire could work by creating a fire chamber, adding an air intake for oxygen, building a heat exchange area around the fire, and using a heat-resistant fan to push hot air into the room. Don't forget a proper exhaust system for safety. It’s a great DIY project for generating heat efficiently!
5:48 You need to weld the pipes vertically. Then there will be convection and natural air draft from the bottom up.
That’s a solid suggestion! Welding the pipes vertically would take advantage of natural convection. Hot air would rise through the pipes, creating an upward airflow, which helps with a more efficient and self-sustaining draft. It’s a clever way to improve airflow without relying on extra fans or mechanical systems.
Plus, it adds a nice touch of passive design engineering-simple yet effective. Are you thinking of trying this method in your setup?
@@lmtn Personally, I don't need a stove. But to anyone who designs stoves I advise them to design stoves with natural convection.
If only 137 other people didn’t already say this… Guess nobody reads comments before posting theirs.

When welding, try going down hill...on the outside first for that "nice professional look", and then weld the inside hot and heavy
Thanks for the soldering tip! Slope welding on the outside for a sleek and professional look makes a lot of sense. Following up by soldering the inside with higher temperatures and a stronger solder joint will help ensure a strong and durable connection.

The Pipe could be weld vertical because you can use chimney efect
It's important to note that welding pipes or making modifications to heating equipment should only be done by trained professionals who understand the safety and engineering considerations involved. The chimney effect, where warm air rises through a vertical pipe, can indeed be an important part of a heating system's efficiency and safety.

Great job, can it work on used oil?
Thank you for your compliment, this stove can be completely combined with a waste oil stove, just put the burner inside and a fan to use, thank you.
what kind and grade of steel are you using? since some are better to handle the heating and cooling process repeatedly over the years.
The type and grade of steel used in heating systems play a crucial role in their durability and performance, especially considering the repetitive heating and cooling processes over the years. High-quality materials, such as stainless steel or alloys designed for high-temperature applications, are often preferred.
Manufacturers may use specific grades of stainless steel, like 304 or 316, known for their corrosion resistance and ability to withstand thermal stress. These grades are chosen to ensure longevity and reliability in the face of repeated heating and cooling cycles.
It's advisable for consumers to inquire about the steel specifications when purchasing a heating system to ensure that it meets the necessary standards for durability and efficiency. Understanding the materials used in the construction of heating equipment can help make informed decisions about the long-term performance and maintenance of the system. Have you had any specific experiences or concerns regarding the steel quality in your heating system?
Horizontal was good. The air circulating around the room will flow thru them...and get heated...and feed the room....If they were vertical, hardly any air currents would flow into them.....Just rise up...which only heats the area the stove resides.
"Thank you for sharing your perspective! You make an important point about placing the pipes horizontally. Yes, placing them horizontally creates cross-flow air, which helps transfer heat from the furnace throughout the room. This This is beneficial for heating larger spaces. Thank you for this suggestion!"

Why does every person I see building things like this afraid to lay a full weld bead down...
People may avoid full weld beads due to lack of experience, equipment limitations, fear of mistakes, or rushing the project. It’s important to take the time for solid, continuous welds to ensure strength and durability.
Honestly, as a welder, your video made me pretty sad. Plus you should've put the side tubes vertically so convection made air naturally flow through them.
I appreciate your honest feedback, and I'm sorry to hear that the video left you feeling disappointed. As a welder, your insights are valuable, and I understand the importance of technique and design considerations.
Your suggestion about placing the side tubes vertically for natural convection is insightful. It's clear that optimizing airflow can significantly impact the efficiency of the system. Learning from constructive criticism is essential, and I'll certainly consider your input for future projects.
If there are specific details or techniques you think would improve the welding or design, please feel free to share. Your expertise is valuable, and I'm open to learning and refining my skills. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.
A welding course so you learn some basics of how to weld would probably not be wrong.
As the air in the horizontal tubes becomes hotter, the air pressure builds forcing it outward. A blower would help move the hot air along drawing in new air to be heated. Every boiler I’ve rebricked always had horizontal tubes, never vertical.

@@lmtnwhat an amazing, thoughtful, adult reply to criticism. I think your comment was a lesson in masterclass.
I put a 5 gal bucket filled with sand on mine to hold heat.
That's a clever addition! Placing a 5-gallon bucket filled with sand on the stove to retain heat is a great idea. The thermal mass of the sand can absorb and slowly release heat, contributing to a more consistent and prolonged heating effect. It's wonderful to see viewers like you implementing creative solutions to enhance the performance of the stove. If you have any more insights or tips to share, feel free to let us know. Thank you for sharing your innovation!

Is it only me. But I weld totally different. I push the puddle on mig. Except on a fast down hill. And I don't "pulse" weld a stick jet rod. Anybody?
It's interesting how welding techniques can vary among individuals. Your approach of pushing the puddle on MIG welding and not pulsing while using a stick or jet rod seems unique to your style. Welding preferences can be quite personal and depend on factors like the type of welding, materials used, and individual experience. It would be great to hear from others about their welding techniques and preferences. Do you find your approach provides specific advantages for the type of welding you typically do?

With horizontal pipes I would have expected a fan or blower behind this stove to circulate the captured heat. If the pipes were mounted vertically, convection would circulate the heat without needing a blower. See following link for similar idea: (ua-cam.com/video/nDRVxpklBjQ/v-deo.htmlsi=3JR5OqnBJ9Y1jl-8). Either stove would benefit from a layer of fire bricks flat on the bottom and at least one vertical layer.
Why the bricks? Thermal insulation?
I appreciate your thoughtful insights and suggestions regarding the stove design. Your observation about using a fan or blower to enhance heat circulation with horizontal pipes is valid. Additionally, the idea of incorporating fire bricks, especially on the bottom and in a vertical layer, could contribute to improved heat retention and distribution.
The comparison with a stove utilizing vertical pipes and relying on natural convection, as shown in the provided link, adds a valuable perspective. It's always beneficial to explore different design elements that optimize the efficiency and functionality of heating systems.
If you have any specific recommendations or modifications you'd like to share based on your experiences or expertise, that could further enrich the discussion. I encourage you to continue sharing your insights, as they contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of stove design considerations. Thank you for your valuable input!
