    tubes need to be vertical, not horizontal....................that allows natural heat flow

    • @lmtn
      @lmtn  Рік тому +1

      I understand your point about having vertical tubes for better heat flow and the chimney effect. Vertical tubing can indeed help with natural convection, allowing hot air to rise more effectively and distribute heat more evenly. This can be particularly important in heating systems to improve efficiency.
      When designing or modifying a heating system, it's important to consider factors like airflow, heat distribution, and safety. Vertical tubing can be a good choice in many cases, but it's crucial to ensure that the system is properly engineered and installed to maximize its effectiveness while maintaining safety standards. Consulting with HVAC professionals or experts in heating systems can help you make the right decisions for your specific setup.

    • @chrisking-jp5kj
      @chrisking-jp5kj Рік тому +6

      @lmtn Yes your build is a great design. I would suggest raise the tip of the tubes up in front and lower in the back. So the air flow through the tube is improved with more natural airflow and also with welding the tubes, all the way across the fire box instead of just spot welding them. That way you get maximum heat transfer into the tubes. Greatly improving the thermal efficiency. Just my opinion.

    • @haroldgreen1425
      @haroldgreen1425 Рік тому +2

      Place the tubes vertically and then add a 90 degree bend on the tops blowing away from the heater. That will give you two loops of air flow away, down, back to the heater, and then up and around again.@@lmtn

    • @gibblespascack1418
      @gibblespascack1418 Рік тому +1

      What do you expect the tubes to do? Distribute heat? If the combustion process was improved, the heat would be higher, fire would burn cleaner, and you would be radiating at 1100 F degrees instead of 400 F degrees. Get the combustion right and heat transfer would take care of itself.

    nice idea, what about filling the tubes up with sand , then they absorb the heat and when fire dies down it still radiates heat to the room

    • @lmtn
      @lmtn  Рік тому

      That's a clever suggestion! Filling the tubes with sand could indeed enhance the heat retention capacity of the system. The sand would absorb heat during the burning process, and as you mentioned, it could continue radiating heat after the fire dies down. This could potentially improve the overall efficiency of the DIY heater.
      If you decide to try this modification, make sure to consider the weight added by the sand and ensure that the structure can support it. Additionally, monitoring the performance and safety of the system is crucial.

    Oh I forgot to say, it’s not good taking heat out of the firebox/combustion area. it lowers the efficiency of the burn. It would be a more efficient stove if you isolate the fire box. maybe with fire bricks. put a smoke shelf In about 2/3s of the way up and put all your tubes above or in the smoke shelf area so you take heat energy out of the exhaust air rather than from the combustion area. If you can add a secondary fresh air in the smoke shelf area to burn the glue gases. Just some thoughts. Good work.🎉

    Great design.
    But if you angle the pipes so they're several inches higher in front, you can get some convection flow which will help with heat transfer. no?

    • @lmtn
      @lmtn  Рік тому +3

      Thank you for the compliment on the design! Angling the pipes so that they are higher in front can indeed create a convection flow, which can enhance heat transfer and distribution. This design adjustment can be particularly effective for radiant heating systems or other setups where heat circulation is crucial. By allowing hot air to rise naturally and circulate, you can improve the overall efficiency of the system and make better use of the generated heat. So, your suggestion has merit and can contribute to an even more efficient heating solution.

    I didn't quite understand why the pipes of the stove are horizontal. If they were vertical, convection would release the heat more quickly into the air - about 10 times faster - and thus into the room. If necessary, the chimney effect of the pipes could be regulated with a flap.

    • @lmtn
      @lmtn  Рік тому

      That's an interesting suggestion. Vertical pipes for the stove could indeed enhance the convection effect and potentially improve heat distribution into the room. It's a valid point that adjusting the chimney effect with a flap could provide more control over the heat output. However, the design choices may vary based on the specific goals and constraints of the stove's design, such as space availability, materials, and intended use. Different configurations might be more suitable for different situations. Ultimately, it's important to consider these factors when designing or using a stove for optimal performance and safety.

    • @42lookc
      @42lookc Місяць тому

      @@lmtn @lmtn Thank you for your consideration. Your stove is otherwise a great design and very skillfully constructed.
      Vertical pipes would greatly affect efficiency and heat distribution as your room's coolest air is on and near the floor. The hot air in the pipes rises, so it must pull in the cold air from below. This will induce a natural draft for the pipes. You will almost certainly feel it above the openings of the pipes. A facial tissue or a lighter held over a pipe opening once the stove is hot will show the upward draft. There will be a continuously rotating circle of air movement along each side of the stove, slowly pulling in almost all the air in the room for warming with less noticeably cold spots. The air movement along the floor will warm the floor up over time.

    If you want to store heat fill and cap them off with sand in them, if you want to have more heat use a snake pipe from bottom to top lots of s turns, the heat would then draw through the pipe from bottom to top and circulate it around the room... convection

      @lmtn  Місяць тому

      That’s a solid suggestion! Welding the pipes vertically would take advantage of natural convection. Hot air would rise through the pipes, creating an upward airflow, which helps with a more efficient and self-sustaining draft. It’s a clever way to improve airflow without relying on extra fans or mechanical systems.

    The Pipe could be weld vertical because you can use chimney efect

    • @lmtn
      @lmtn  Рік тому

      It's important to note that welding pipes or making modifications to heating equipment should only be done by trained professionals who understand the safety and engineering considerations involved. The chimney effect, where warm air rises through a vertical pipe, can indeed be an important part of a heating system's efficiency and safety.
      If you are considering making changes to your heating system, it's highly recommended to consult with a qualified technician or HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) professional. They can assess your specific situation, ensure that any modifications comply with safety regulations, and help you achieve the desired efficiency and safety in your heating setup. Safety should always be the top priority when dealing with heating systems or any potentially hazardous equipment.

    what kind and grade of steel are you using? since some are better to handle the heating and cooling process repeatedly over the years.

    • @lmtn
      @lmtn  Рік тому

      The type and grade of steel used in heating systems play a crucial role in their durability and performance, especially considering the repetitive heating and cooling processes over the years. High-quality materials, such as stainless steel or alloys designed for high-temperature applications, are often preferred.
      Manufacturers may use specific grades of stainless steel, like 304 or 316, known for their corrosion resistance and ability to withstand thermal stress. These grades are chosen to ensure longevity and reliability in the face of repeated heating and cooling cycles.
      It's advisable for consumers to inquire about the steel specifications when purchasing a heating system to ensure that it meets the necessary standards for durability and efficiency. Understanding the materials used in the construction of heating equipment can help make informed decisions about the long-term performance and maintenance of the system. Have you had any specific experiences or concerns regarding the steel quality in your heating system?

      As the air in the horizontal tubes becomes hotter, the air pressure builds forcing it outward. A blower would help move the hot air along drawing in new air to be heated. Every boiler I’ve rebricked always had horizontal tubes, never vertical.

    Сразу понятно что человек живет в теплом климате а не у нас в Сибири и в школе уроки физики или прогуливал , если вообще учился. Горизонтальное расположение труб практически сводящих в ноль активный конвективный проток воздуха это лишь один из моментов. КПД такой печи будет очень низким а расход дров мама моя роди меня обратно. Там еще много чего . Но если чисто для ролика и лайков пойдет.

      That's a clever addition! Placing a 5-gallon bucket filled with sand on the stove to retain heat is a great idea. The thermal mass of the sand can absorb and slowly release heat, contributing to a more consistent and prolonged heating effect. It's wonderful to see viewers like you implementing creative solutions to enhance the performance of the stove. If you have any more insights or tips to share, feel free to let us know. Непродуманные моменты:
    1. Горизонтально расположенные боковые трубы - бесполезны. Теплый воздух стремится вверх, а не в бок. Надо ставить вертикально! ))
    2. Зольный ящик - микроскопический. Вспотеешь постоянно золу выбрасывать.
    3. Топочная дверца - высокая. При каждом открывании дым будет выходить в комнату.
    4. Конусный корпус лучше малой стороной к низу - прогорающие дрова будут съезжать к решётке колосника.
    5. Эта печь - дровожорка ( от слов ЖРАТЬ и ДРОВА ), на неё дров не напасёшься. Автор, ты о печах медленного горения не слышал? В них есть отбойник пламени.
    Ты можешь сказать мне: сделай лучше, чем критиковать!
    Но ты и сам можешь сделать лучше, надо только думать, прежде чем делать.
    Успехов тебе!

      Klingt nach einer intelligenten und effektiven Lösung! Dicker Stahl kann tatsächlich als Wärmespeicher fungieren, da er die von einem Holzofen erzeugte Wärme aufnehmen und über einen längeren Zeitraum abgeben kann. Dadurch bleibt die Wärme im Raum erhalten und die Effizienz des Holzofens wird maximiert. Solche kreativen Anpassungen können nicht nur die Wärmeableitungsleistung verbessern, sondern auch zu einer effizienteren Energienutzung beitragen. Wenn Sie weitere Erkenntnisse oder Erfahrungen haben, die Sie teilen möchten, helfe ich Ihnen gerne weiter! Danke

    • @lmtn

      Вы правильно заметили, что вертикальное расположение труб может быть более эффективным для некоторых систем отопления. Эта конструкция с горизонтальными трубами может быть предназначена для других целей или соответствовать определенным условиям помещения. Вертикальные трубы могут способствовать лучшей циркуляции воздуха и теплообмену. Каждая система имеет свои особенности и может быть настроена под определенные требования. Спасибо за ваши замечания!

      It's interesting how welding techniques can vary among individuals. Your approach of pushing the puddle on MIG welding and not pulsing while using a stick or jet rod seems unique to your style. Welding preferences can be quite personal and depend on factors like the type of welding, materials used, and individual experience. It would be great to hear from others about their welding techniques and preferences. Do you find your approach provides specific advantages for the type of welding you typically do?

      It sounds like you're talking about people modifying their stoves in a way that reduces their efficiency. Often, DIY modifications can unintentionally compromise the original design, which can lead to issues like higher fuel consumption or decreased heat output. It's important to carefully consider the impact of any changes on the stove's performance to ensure it's still working efficiently. What kind of modifications have you seen people make?

    With horizontal pipes I would have expected a fan or blower behind this stove to circulate the captured heat. If the pipes were mounted vertically, convection would circulate the heat without needing a blower. See following link for similar idea: (ua-cam.com/video/nDRVxpklBjQ/v-deo.htmlsi=3JR5OqnBJ9Y1jl-8). Either stove would benefit from a layer of fire bricks flat on the bottom and at least one vertical layer.

      Why the bricks? Thermal insulation?

    • @lmtn
      @lmtn  Рік тому +1

      I appreciate your thoughtful insights and suggestions regarding the stove design. Your observation about using a fan or blower to enhance heat circulation with horizontal pipes is valid. Additionally, the idea of incorporating fire bricks, especially on the bottom and in a vertical layer, could contribute to improved heat retention and distribution.
      The comparison with a stove utilizing vertical pipes and relying on natural convection, as shown in the provided link, adds a valuable perspective. It's always beneficial to explore different design elements that optimize the efficiency and functionality of heating systems.
      If you have any specific recommendations or modifications you'd like to share based on your experiences or expertise, that could further enrich the discussion. I encourage you to continue sharing your insights, as they contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of stove design considerations. Thank you for your valuable input!
