A Kiwi Corsair - Will We See It Again?

- Goodyear-built FG-1D Corsair NZ5648 has recently flown again for the first time in six years, and is now undergoing maintenance in order to be able to reach a fully airworthy state ASAP.
As one of only a handful of ex-RNZAF Corsair airframes that remain, many enthusiasts would like to see the aircraft repainted in wartime RNZAF colours. It may well happen.
But in the meantime here's some previously unreleased footage of that same aircraft, flying in RNZAF colours at the Warbirds Over Wanaka 2004 airshow as part of the Breitling Fighters Display Team.

Outside of the USA no other country used the Corsair more than New Zealand so yes I believe many of us are hoping that we will see it again :)
Not quite. The Royal Navy operated over 2000 of them.
Well there you go@@paladin56
enjoyed the Corsair double shot this week
Thanks! :-)
The takeoff footage is amazing!!
It is, isn't it!
@historicalmachines
Was it taken from a drone?
@@paladin56 helicopter.
This is a impressive Corsair it is now flying it will be at Ardmore on the 9th of march very cool
She needs to be returned to her original war paint theirs a ton of US plane in us navy paint
at 23 second mark, oh so many beautiful aircraft in a single view.
Notice the slightly clipped wings on this Corsair, introduced so the they could fit in to British aircraft carriers. As far as i am aware this modification had no detrimental affect on performance or handling.
👍
Just a few years later we needed all those aircraft for the Korean War, the industrial war complex did a good job destroying the greatest war machine in history.
Personally I think the USA livery looks better. Kind of showcases its roots better
Don't say that too loudly in New Zealand!
@@HistAvFilmUnitnz scheme looks way better considering it there are none like it
The rnzaf has a deep history with the f4U it's our big badass warbird we had around 300 of them
As this particular aircraft has clipped wings the RNZAF markings are more appropriate. It looks to me like they have been superimposed over British Pacific Fleet markings as the blue borders of the 'bars' are a darker blue.
