You can check your account daily and start a dispute but your money is tied up until the dispute is settled. If it is a large dispute very likely you're going to have checks start bounching then you get hit with NSF fees.

@@greggpurviance7252Depends on how you handle your finances. I agree if you are irresponsible, then credit cards are not for you. I paid for a one month luxury vacation to Japan, all “free” using the cash back rewards from the one credit card I use to run my home maintenance services business. I only use credit card to charge the parts and supplies needed for the jobs after we have signed customer contracts. I pay off the credit card in full, one week before due date. Approximate average total of $380,000 of charges a year on that one credit card. If I had used my debit card, I would have $0 of rewards/cash back. Credit cards work for me.

I have never had a debit card. I saw the fallacy of these things since they came out. In 2002 when people were buying Olympic tickets, if they used a Debit Card they were double charged by error and were told that it would take up to 6 months for people to get their money back. When tickets cost multiple hundreds of dollars (depending on the event) people were out thousands of dollars. With a Credit Card, a double charge could be disputed, and you aren't out any money. Even if you have never had a problem, there is the possibility that your checking account could be drained and then you are charged for over drafts. Not worth it. If a business won't take a credit card, they don't get my business.

I do not carry or ever use a debit card. I always have felt that if there is a problem with a charge I would rather have them coming after me for the money rather then me having to try to get my money back. Also I understand the legal protections I have using a credit card rather then the debit card.
I still pay cash for most of my small purchases because it makes it much easier to go over my credit card bill at the end of the month looking for problems. I also want the small businesses I deal with to save money by not having to pay the high fees credit card companies charge them.

Exactly. Not everyone is disciplined with credit cards and not everyone (ie someone with low credit score) even qualifies or if they do it's a very low credit limit like $500 certainly not enough for most people's monthly expenses. It is much easier for me to stay on top of my spending with a debit card and the one I have from my credit union DOES have the same protection as a credit card. A couple of years ago I had a fraudulent charge of about $500 and they investigated and reversed it. No problem. Set up notifications so I always know what's going on.

The whole credit card vs debit card thing is ludicrous because there are some good intentional people out here who cannot even get approved for a credit card. And even for some who pass the approval/qualification process, they all dont get high credit card limits, depending on the issuer thry may get a limit of less than a $1,000. If you follow the rules of 10% utilization, that would mean you cant or shouldn't use more than a $100.00 a month on your credit card. A $100.00 or less a month is not exactly optimal for everyone. If you have a $5,000 limit or higher GREAT. But to suggest that everyone should have and use a credit card vs a debit card is not applicable nor helpful to all

What about people who can't qualify for a credit card, but keep a bank account and use cash or a debit card? I would suggest just use cash. If such a person wants to appear like they actually have a credit card, well, get over that; don't use a debit card! If they use cash they can only lose the amount of cash they carry, not all that's in the bank account.

We have been comprised 4 times in 4 years. $1,000/Walmart, $1,000 twice Locker Room shoe store, and then a laundry matt that "put our card on file " and then added a $20.00 "tip" to the $80 laundry bill without our consent.

That's insane! Ditch that debit card and just use cash! That's not worth being able to appear in public like you have a credit card. What a silly reason to lose so much money. Get control! Or get a real credit card.

I agree with you that Dave will call you stupid, stupid, stupid for not using a debit card because He says it has the same protection as credit card as it has a Visa or Master Card logo on it.
I then unsubscribe and stop watching his youtube videos months ago.
