Time for another bus station! This time it's the very modern, large, underground station in the north of the CBD, Perth Busport, the only station to have dynamic stand allocation!

990 via Mount Hawthorn is a bit vague and you should’ve mentioned how it goes down Scarborough beach road via the shopping centre, but other than that I liked your explanation of the busport!

As someone asked how the old route 14 runs, it’s actually runs along with the old route 15 alignment when there’s a route changes in 2016, and its termini are near the Mezz Mount Hawthorn and Brady Street near Powis Street. Also this route had a dedicated timetable number 55 in Northern Service area alignment (normally the northern section have timetables starting in number 56).

The "Zonal" stand system offers more flexibility particularly for departures with eight stands available for a route versus just three under the original four groups of four stands. That translates into a smaller chance of buses boxing one-another in, or parking crooked, and given the preference originally towards having artics load on the very last stands (1 & 12, if memory serves correct), makes it easier to accommodate artics. On plenty of occasions, though, I've seen artics use other stands provided one or two stands before are kept clear to permit them to park properly.

It was originally groups of four groups of 4 stands, 16/4 = 4, but thanks for the information. It's weird though because almost always I notice routes departing from the same four stands where they used to.

@@TransportofPerth You're right, 4x4 not 4x3, I've fixed the original comment.
I'm not sure if the 'static' stand used when the DSMS is broken has any bearing on the allocation, whether the system defaults to that during quieter periods or if it will choose stands close.

You are wrong about the routes that run through. The 960 isn’t the only route that goes through the busport the blue cat does aswell

No? The Blue CAT terminates here, switches destinations and route codes and sometimes even waits in layover in between...

@@TransportofPerth there was people on the bus that went through the busport today. I did the same thing getting on before as the stop at Fitzgerald street and went in and out

If a bus is empty before it gets to it's terminating station then does it terminte

Yes because that's where they layover / do the next route. The only exception is the Mandurah Line replacement (909) which will go back to Rockingham depot on its night shifts if it is empty once reaching Kwinana.
