@@flowergirl5336 The concept of the bride following the bridegroom to the cross is a metaphorical and theological concept found in Christian tradition and interpretation of Scripture. It emerges from various passages in the New Testament that use the imagery of marriage to describe the relationship between Christ and the Church.
One of the primary passages where this imagery is found is in Ephesians 5:22-33, where the apostle Paul compares the relationship between husband and wife to the relationship between Christ and the Church. In this passage, Paul describes how husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her. This sacrificial love is likened to Christ's self-sacrifice on the cross for the redemption of humanity. The Church, in turn, is portrayed as the bride of Christ, who is to submit to Christ's loving authority and follow Him faithfully.
Another passage where this imagery is present is in Revelation 19:7-9, which speaks of the marriage supper of the Lamb. In this passage, the Lamb, referring to Jesus Christ, is depicted as the bridegroom, and the Church is portrayed as the bride who is united with Him in a heavenly marriage feast.
The concept of the bride following the bridegroom to the cross is thus derived from these and other passages in Scripture that use the metaphor of marriage to illustrate the intimate and sacrificial relationship between Christ and His Church. It emphasizes themes of love, devotion, and union, as well as the willingness of believers to follow Christ and share in His suffering for the sake of redemption and salvation.

As far as the German Bishops go, you have to understand that he is looking at the entire catholic world. The German churches do not belong to the Vatican. They belong to the Germans. If he removes them, they can just stay there and continue to call themselves catholic and operate a parallel false church in Germany. The Pope is trying to bring them back into the fold so we don't loose every German catholic. The German people are hurting. They are not all on board with those bishops. Should the Pope really just abandon them? It's a complicated situation. He has talked to them probably more than we know but they won't just step down like strickland did. He may have to do that but I'm sure he doesn't want to. I'm sure he wants to change their hearts and that takes time and the holy spirit

We are living the effects of Modernism. Founded in early 1900s by Fr. Alfred Loisy and Fr. George Tyrrell S.J. Do read the history and their belief system. Then ask yourself if what is coming out of this Pontificate sounds Modernist? It is a form of Protestantism. The Modernist, by nature, will not necessarily follow established Canon Law, doctrines and teachings.
I grew up in a Jesuit Parish, grammar school and University in the 70s/80s. Did not learn the Catholic Faith, until by the grace of God, EWTN TV/radio programing came out. Listening to Catholic Apologetics was very helpful. Then I started to learn and understand. Also helpful that for the past 20+ years I've been living in an authentic faithful Diocese, with well-formed faithful Priests and Bishops. I am home. I pray for the Pope daily. God will take care of His Church but we must resist Modernism.

this is so wrong as a catholic to ask this question. God teach us to love our neighbors. We hate the sins, not sinners. And we are all sinners, Pope Francis said. The pope’s letter should have included the fact that the person to be baptized must renounce sin of believing that God made a mistake by giving them the wrong body.
In the past he stated that transgender ideology is demonic. Therefore the person is required to renounce transgender behavior and belief.
All the letter said is that the person must fulfill all of the requirements of baptism. (Which includes repentance of sin ). This is way way too vague and leads non Catholics to interpret the letter to say it is ok to continue the transgendered way of life after baptism.
It appears this was deliberately vague in order to seem to conform to liberal ideology.
There was no need to issue this letter. It changes nothing regarding baptism. All it did was muddy the waters that were previously clear to all.
Trying to appear toappease the world is not helping Catholics or the reputation of the Catholic Church.
Another thing: the scandal statement. Who decides what is scandalous? The parish priest? Talk about throwing the problem on them.

The reason some are responding to Pope Francis as they do politicians is he has made his pontificate political on some issues, and to ignore that is disingenuous. To ignore his treatment of certain bishops as he excuses the actions of others is akin to a political party favoring those who agree with them, and treat others with disdain and even acrimony. Look at just whom he has brought into his leadership team. I pray for Pope Francis every day, and I hope he focuses on remaining true to doctrine and the Gospel, yet many of the things he does and says lead one to believe he has certain goals in mind for his papacy. While its true he simply cannot change doctrine or dogma with his words or actions, the issue is, with those same words, he has often brought about confusion and distrust. Secularists loves this confusion, because their end game is to make the Church irrelevant, and when you have the leader of the Church making statements which seem to, whether justified or not, to contradict Church doctrine or dogma, the infighting it causes among local church leaders and the faithful stokes the irrelevancy fire. Pope Francis has brought about much of the confusion and angst himself with his words and actions. At the end of the day the Church is Jesus Christ, not any pope or church leader, and we must always remember that.

Good stuff. I have a lot of mixed feelings about Francis. Early, you guys mentioned how we politicize him by thinking of him in terms of a politician. He's partly to blame since he seems to welcome dialog with those political figures opposing church teaching with no corrections and admonish faithful Catholics for being too rigid. He's playing the political game. To what end, God only knows .

    • @ttaibe
      @ttaibe 5 місяців тому

I don't see it as playing the political game. I see it as soft heartedly trying to coach people, to remind them to listen, that we are one. Something along those lines. Then when people made clear they didn't want to or were not going to, that is when the consequences we made clear. Just look at how the bishops synode phase was done where they go together and spoke their minds. They had very limited time to say what that they had to say, then a period of silence to reflect before the next person could say a few words. Maybe it comes across differently if you are more accustomed to authority and dominant leaders.

The issue with the Latin Mass is that some parishes and some people start to weaponize it or use it as a "token" of superior righteousness. I wish I could say otherwise, but the backlash for the restrictions seem to suggest that is the case. One would need to recognize and appreciate the Novus Ordo mass as heaven and earth coming together during which we partake of Jesus's body, blood, soul, and divinity.. before they consider attending the TLM on a regular basis. Way too many Catholics act like if it is not TLM, it isn't worth anything.

No offense but I’ve been to many Novus Ordo’s and they don’t even follow the rubrics of the missal. Liturgical abuse is rampant, and many (not all) are irreverent. The first step to solving a problem is admitting there is one. I go to a beautiful Novus Ordo and i feel blessed. They are few and far between where I live. Nobody needs to recognize a certain rite is heaven on earth, there is over 20 rites. They are all great, but the Novus Ordo has been watered down in many parishes over the last 50-60 years. Just look at the average age of those attending. I will say the TLM has a strong young crowd, I have witnessed it. TLM people if they get suppressed will just end up going to an eastern rite church, hopefully it’s in communion with Rome. I love TLM, I love Divine Liturgy, I love Novus Ordo( when it’s done with reverence).

Great discussion! I am a new Catholic, and I have to say that Pope Francis was instrumental in my decision to leave 49 years as an active Protestant. I admire his devotion to the poor, which I consider to be the Church's primary purpose on earth. 2,000+ passages of Sacred Scripture tell me so. Jesus tells me so. Jesus declared His mission at the beginning of His ministry at Nazareth when He read from Isaiah, ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’ (Luke 4:18-19) The Church gets caught up in every other tertiary issue she can think of, forgetting that Jesus passed this mission on to His Apostles, and to all believers. Pope Francis doesn't forget this, and he will do all in his power to move any obstacle to this mission out of the way.

You SAID: *devotion to the poor, which I consider to be the Church's primary purpose on earth.*
Friend, if that is what you think the primary purpose of the church is then you are clearly LOST. Of course if "the church" is the rcc, then I guess it's OK, but NOT if it's the Holy, Universal Church of Christ! The rcc is not that church!
The primary purpose of the Church is to proclaim the gospel of Jesus the Messiah - to make disciples of all nations, tribes and people, no matter whether they are poor, rich, male or female, child or adult, small, westernized or not, big, fat, thin, brown, beige, sallow, yellow or completely black in skin colour - because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
You quoted: *because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’*
Just read that text again for yourself!!! and see Jesus is talking about the good new of FREEDOM from the oppresion - meaning the oppression of SIN and death. That's what Jesus was all about. The POOR are those who are poor in spirit.

To take on this topic about Pope Francis with the only facet being that the internet is to blame is disingenuous. Pope Francis has said and done things that should make all Catholics raise a brow of suspicion. For y’all to question why we should be talking about this is also confusing. Good episode, guys/Father (as usual). I think one thing that would be helpful to point out is there is another group of people involved here besides those trying to push a position or purposely cause dissension or argue/profit: that being that many people are really really hurting right now. The unique situation about the last couple years is so many (myself included) feel so used/lied to by those in authority over us (civil and Clergy), and the few (non-religious Dogmas) that we've grown to use to find meaning , that we use cynicism as some kind of a shield, "Wont get fooled again" mentality. Many feel powerless so they turn to these demagogues to not feel alone, defeated, and not lose any more ground because when you feel your entire worldly (but hopefully God inspired) paradigm drops out from under you its really tough to walk forward. (I had to deal with this as a Iraq War veteran, so I understand the pain here...doing better but still bites every now and then) I would love an episode on how to recover from that, or your thoughts, cause other than completely detaching from the world (including trying to better it) and turning to God and living exclusively for the next World, I am not sure. Trust has been shattered for so many of us, the internet makes it impossible to ignore how much we've been lied to, and while I agree with every sentiment said on here I think more stated on trying to heal those dealing with "Moral injury" would go a long way here.

Contemplate the meaning of the Cross and that the Perfect, Almighty, Eternal, Infinite God, Justice, Goodness, Mercy, Wisdom, Life, Love and Being Himself, first, gave Himself a human body and soul to reach out to each and every one of us that we may more fully and deeply understand His Divine Love. And that He Himself wishes to live and walk wirh and commune with and love us for all eternity, even enough to die, even upo a Cross out of unfathomable, incomprehensible, and unimaginable Love and Mercy. That He desires that each and every man and woman you ever see, heard of, or ever have, are, and ever shall live, might be able to choose to live as His sons and daughters.
Man all will fail you at some point, for each and every one of us is fallen and broken and injured and wandering far from home. From the Master, learn to love them anyway. Only God shall prevail always for you and each of us. Only in Him shall we find a true refuge. Try reading the Imitation of Christ, or maybe Introduction to the Devout Life.
      Trust Him.

As Catholics, we owe assent to Church teaching (yes, including from the Pope) beyond the bounds of Ex Cathedra pronouncements. I encourage you brother to look more into this issue. I’m not entirely informed on these matters myself, but the idea that we can just dissent from the Pope unless he’s defining a new Marian dogma or something is a mistaken understanding of both the magisterium and papal infallibility. Furthermore, Pope Francis has on many occasions, as recently as just a few days ago, condemned the German bishops and their "Synodal Way" as highly problematic. Resolving the issues with the German Church is not as simple as just removing and replacing the bishops however, lest a new schism result. Finally, his restriction of the Latin Mass is well within his power (just as it was within Benedict XVI's to expand access to it). Not to mention, his restriction was not simply an attack on tradition. It was responding to very real issues that are present in Latin mass communities - not all communities, and not everyone in them, but a significant amount, and I can personally attest to the problems from having encountered them. Was it the best solution, maybe, maybe not. I for one do not want to see the TLM restricted, but I understand why it happened. Let us pray for unity and healing in the body of Christ that in the future we would not have these issues.

OK. He has 'full and supreme power'. The question is: has he abused it? He's been in the office now for ten years and a significant number of Catholics believe that in fact he has abused his power. I read again recently 'The Dictator Pope' by Marcantonio Colonna. This was written five years after this pope's election and it has been interesting to view the last five years in the light of that earlier critique. A difficulty for critics is that we have become used in the centuries since the sixteenth to popes who, more or less, behaved as one would expect. It is not easy to conclude that at last we have one who manifestly has not. To avoid this conclusion, we find people indulging in frankly untenable arguments that this pope is not a true pope, and so on. The answer may be to take a long-term view of the papacy. The truth of the matter is that in the distant past there have been some rotters. And Jesus Himself warned us to beware of false shepherds. There is absolutely no guarantee that the line of rotters has died out. We should calmly accept that fact, and pay no heed to ill-considered utterances of an authority figure if we think he can't be trusted, whether he's a bishop of Rome or anywhere else.

I am 73 years old. I was raised Catholic and love the Church ❤. However, a year prior to Pope Francis becoming Pope, I was so discouraged about the Church. Why? I was becoming increasingly discouraged by the rhetoric of the U.S. Bishops, political bias that was influencing local diocese practices and the actions/comments by some parishioners. When a friend in another state sent me a copy of a letter from her Bishop stating that anyone voting for a particular Presidential candidate should refrain from taking Communion I became EXTREMELY depressed! I did Adoration weekly from 1AM to 2AM and was often alone. I prayed and prayed for guidance! Where had the Church I loved gone in my country? So many no longer had compassion for the immigrant, the poor, the sick and elderly. Having worked in corporate America, l knew many gays, people who were divorced and remarried, people who cheated on their spouse, young people cohabitating without marriage, people who were non-religious, etc. It seemed my fellow Catholics were able to look beyond many sins unless it had to do with homosexuality or other similar situations! For that there was NO UNDERSTANDING or compassion. I found that most had never bothered to have a real conversation about the subject with anyone they knew was gay! Few sit with a recent undocumented immigrant and listen to their story of why they traveled 1000 miles to reach the U.S.
Then Pope Francis became our Pope and I found hope in the Church again. I think, despite the lack of support many Catholics give him, the Holy Spirit guided his selection because of where we are in history. This is not about making same sex marriage OK in the Church or changing the stance on abortion or some other "sin". Pope Francis asks that we show compassion and love to our neighbors, coworkers, the immigrant inspite of their actions. It's about letting God do the judging because that is not our responsibility.
One of the reasons so many young people love Pope Francis is because he preaches love, forgiveness and understanding. Isn't that what Christ asks of us?

We have so many Content Creators or Influencers and Internet Host that are raking the Church over the coals now, so people that see or listen to these things are looking at everything from the back and not the front. Not to mention the fact that these people are also making a fortune off of the people that they get to believe them about everything and follow along with them. I started to buy a couple books from some of them and then I realized they are just talking down the Church and telling us that this and that is in a horrible state and try to keep us scared and looking for the truth, when all we need is a good Catholic Bible and maybe a copy of The Catechism of the Catholic Church. The message is Jesus started the Catholic Church and named Peter as the first Pope so with the line of succession we should accept and Love the Pope now as Jesus loved Peter our first Pope.

And now the bishop is talking about not being able to kneel after receiving until everyone has received.
Our Parish is great, but many of the things happening seem to be about making others feeling better or to make Catholicism more accessible.

I have a question when I was younger 11-12 and was in middle of committing I had a thought that is similar to the line of "I would trade holy spirit for this* or something similar to that and still committed the sin, I was so scared after I did the sin, can I be forgiven?

    • @LostArchivist
      @LostArchivist 6 місяців тому

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is presuming on God`s mercy and sinning or remaining obstinently in sin to try to get away with it and then repent. Or despairing, thinking your sin is too great for God to ever forgive. Or being incredulous of God and His promise or ability to forgive.
One`s sins can not be forgiven in such states but if one repents of them, they and one`s other sins can be forgiven.
The truly unforgivable sin, is remaining unrepentant of mortal sin at the moment of death, this is permenant and supreme blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. This is because it is a final rejection of God`s Love, which, the Holy Spirit is the Love between God the Father and God the Son from all eternity. So one rejects the Holy Spirit and God by doing so.

Bring your fire to serve Christ in evangelizing the world that is actively slipping further every day into darkness, not grumbling in matters we can not change and have no right or say in.

I do not like the Pope at all. However, I do pray for him every day when I offer up my Rosary. I do not pray for his intentions as I think they are not pure and that he is leading the Church in the wrong direction. He is a father that hates his children who are traditional. The best bishop in the world is fired while the German bishops and Fr. James Martin openly promote homosexuality and our president touts his "faith" while promoting everything contrary to it. I go to Latin Mass 2x a month and Novus Ordo 2x a month and am thankful that my local bishop is a good spiritual father to me, not eliminating TLM as some have done. If it was up to Pope Francis, it seems that everything traditional will get eliminated. May we have holy bishops, cardinals, and lay people who will stand up for the truth to his modernism.

The Army tought me this from Day 1.
You must respect the rank but you don't have to respect the Man behind the rank.
I think this is a very basic way we should look at the Pope.
But for the Faithful Catholic it's much more complicated then this on several levels.
    1. God teaches us directly and indirectly through the Saints, Fathers and Doctors of the Church. That we need to especially pray for and show Christian Love and Charity towards our enemies along with forgiving them.
Now enemies in this context can be taken in several ways. Anyone reading this would downright delusional if they didn't understand the fact that many of the Faithful Catholics downright hate the Pope.
So in a sense he is there enemy.
So these Faithful Catholics no matter what's level our dislike is for him ( yes I count myself in that group I have a serious dislike for many things he's said, not said, done or not done) we need to pray for him and ask the good Lord above to give us Christian Love and Charity towards him.
Also we must never ever disrespect the chair of Peter for he is the Vicor of Christ period. If we disrespect him we disrespect Christ.
We also need to remember Christ is in Charge he gave us this Pope at this time in History for a reason.
His ways our not our ways. We need to have complete and utter trust in him.
Use this time to grow in Obedience, faith and trust in the Lord.
