      No she really DOESN'T!!!!! She's fine but it's nothing special, it's not a phenomenal performance like Ariana DeBose in West Side Story.

      @@davidlovesfilm Danielle is nominated for the GG & Critics Choice & Black Reel & is already on everybody’s short list for the Oscar & SAG. Your opinion of the film is not definitive. To many of us that know & love the OG film, Book & play.. the film is beautiful, joyful, powerful & healing. Either way you’re in all these comments down talking the film and the performances spreading negative energy….why are you here? Just because they didn't give the original film that was way better an award is no excuse to nominate a musical remake that is less in quality over much more deserved films.

    The Color Purple is an excellent film! I've enjoyed multiple iterations of this treasured work, and it's currently my favorite. It's definitely an Oscar contender - particularly for Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. I'd also love to see Blitz be nominated for spearheading this work. I found the stories and musical numbers to blend well with stellar updated backstories and character evolution. I love how cultural it was, but at its root, the story is universal. Cheering for TCP as awards season revs up.

    The Film is Excellent! I’ve enjoyed every interpretation of Celie’s story and this might be my favorite. The music, the imagination, the joy, the healing, the redemption… i relate so much to Celie’s story and this interpretation gave me a different type of hope 🤎

    On the shoulders of greats we are uplifted, and we do rise. I concur with the thought that in these times, 2023 and beyond, this story unpacked and put on the screen with the poets of these times (and I count every actor and performance here as poet and poem; slammed or whispered; as embodied) is both needed and wanted. We need and want voices saying these things so that we can hear ancestors speaking across time again and again. The youngest among us may well cry, as we have cried; and find strength, as we have found strength. Thank you Alice Walker.

      Something about the music. I knew it was appropriate. I knew it was needed. I knew it was right.The moment it came on screen.
      Now, I tell you what. The music was like a port in the storm. When the boat felt like surely it was going to break in two on the next rogue wave to crash upon its mighty bow, the music was a port of call, a respite in crossing the roiling sea. Whether we have as yet reached the promise shore, the chorus "we are here" matters; in every moment; from every voice; together.

      I can agree with you on that. It’s like they have to pretend they don’t already know this information from every other interview. But what really grinds my gears is “interviewers” constantly saying “talk about this” or “talk about that” as opposed to asking informed and nuanced questions. Please leave the “talk about” trend in 2023!

    This film really not that good as everyone makes it out to be. The movie has nearly 20 musical numbers that are rushed into and doesn't allow the actors to evolve their characters. Celie and Shug Avery's relationship is largely skipped over unlike the first film.

    • @lisacox306
      @lisacox306 4 місяці тому +3

      The fact that you said Celie and Shug's relationship is skipped over COMPARED to the first film, invalidates everything you have to say. There's clearly more done here. They literally wake up in the same bed after a date. Did you actually see the film you've been smear campaigning for weeks?

    • @davidlovesfilm
      @davidlovesfilm 4 місяці тому

      @@lisacox306 Yeah I saw it at a screening on November 16th. It just rushes through Celie and Shug Avery's bond and it's all very chased and not really explored through dialogue or context between them either. There are a lot of plot holes like that in the script and it just jumps from one musical number to the next.
