  • I for one get sick of the haters saying that Chelsea had no history before Roman Abramovich.
    Looking back, the 1970 FA Cup Final at Wembley and the Replay at Old Trafford, were two of the best memories, Chelsea Football Club have given me.
    I decided to share a few highlights of both games and THAT Infamous tackle on Billy Bremner, by a certain Mr. McCreadie.
    Was the replay the dirtiest game ever? I'll let you decide. No matter what your age or how many years you've supported the club, I hope this video gives you an insight into the past or brings back fond memories.
    Please SUBSCRIBE to the channel and throw the video a 'Like'.
    Many thanks folks.

    Docherty started it with the League Cup in 66, playing in Europe (Inter Cities Fairs Cup), and don't forget the European Cup Winners Cup 71, and The League Cup 72 (that we should have one). What other teams did three finals in consecutive years? None in the Seventies. I remember watching it on granddad’s colour TV - almost my first experience of colour telly. I can’t remember it being particularly dirty- most games were really physical. One thing I do remember was the high quality of the live picture- noticing that Charlton was balding, for example. But what really showed up was the dreadful quality of the pitch. Wembley hosted the Horse of the Year show and the Final was earlier than usual because of the World Cup. It was incredibly bad - hardly green - and I think that explains Charlton’s goal as the bounce deceived the Chelsea defenders

    • @chelseachat62
      @chelseachat62  8 місяців тому

      Some great points. Yes I think the terrible state of the pitch gets forgotten and maybe you're right about Charlton's goal. I hadn't thought of that.

      @@chelseachat62 Yes. In that era, the League Cup Final was played at Wembley in March and the pitch was usually a mudbath at the end (look at the pictures of Arsenal vs Swindon, for example). But the Leeds-Chelsea final STARTED as a mudbath (or sand bath, more accurately)

    Leeds United was the first side in UK football to have every single player as an International.
    They were the first side in English football to compete for the "Treble" as we know it today...
    The English League Championship, The FA CUP, and the European Cup (*Or Champions League as we know it today).
    The FA refused to put back some of the Leeds United FIXTURES as their games against Manchester United in the FA CUP SEMI-FINALS- GOT REPLYED 3 X TIMES.
    Eventually Leeds United beat Manchester United in the FA CUP Semi Final in 1970 1 v O.
    Leeds then had to play Celic (In the European Cup SEMI FIANL AND THEN DIRECTLY AFTER - A NUMBER OF LEAGUE GAMES - TO TRY AND WIN THE "TREBLE" with a SQUAD OF JUST 14 X PLAYERS. AND WITH ONLY 1 X SUBSTITUTE PER GAME...
    Not like today - where you have a squad of 25 players plus 5 x substitutes per game...
    Then Sir Alf Ramsey in the same year named 7 x players from the 1970s Leeds United to represent England in their defense of the World Cup in 1970...
    53 X YEARS HAVE PASSED AND MOST PEOPLE IN ENGLAND CAN STILL NAME EVERY SINGLE PLAYER FROM THAT 1970S LEEDS UNITED SIDE......
