    I got to drive one recently on a nice sunny day and it was pretty fun. The one I was in had zip up clear plastic covers to take the place of windows for bad weather though. It was like the canvas and windows on a boat. Not the most elegant, but it does solve the issue of being protected from the weather at least.

    Is it journalism to show the disadvantages only? Please also tell that the Twizy consumes 90 percent less energy as a traditional car, is noiseless, has no emission, and takes very little space on streets.

    • @SwitzPhoto
      @SwitzPhoto 10 років тому

      Btw from where you have the electricity ? how its made a battery ?
      Batteries are an essential component of hybrids. Regenerative braking lets hybrids generate and store their own energy to power the vehicle at low speeds and while idling. Unfortunately, both nickel-hydride batteries and the newer lithium-ion batteries rely on the mining of nickel, copper and so-called rare earth metals. The production of lithium-ion batteries account for 2 to 5 percent of total lifetime hybrid emissions and nickel-hydride batteries are responsible for higher sulfur oxide emissions, roughly 22 pounds (10 kilograms) per hybrid compared with 2.2 pounds (about 1 kilogram) for a conventional vehicle www.afdc.energy.gov/vehicles/electric_emissions.php

    Biggest problem of the review of this vehicle is treating it as a car which will instantly highlight all the things it is not. It is not a car, it is more like a moped with four wheels. Treating it like a moped will bring forth all the things it actually is. Which is more safe than a moped, more stable, electric, fun, room for a second person which will not need to cling on to you for dear life. etc. Especially that, just loads of et cetera. However... This is Fifth Gear. I imagine the job interviews would include soaking yourself in petrol and catwalk in front of Jeremy Clarkson. But to take the edge out of the irony, spite and sarcasm I will end on a positive note: Bicycle.

    The Twizy makes a lot more sense when you realize that it's a super-scooter. Granted, it's really expensive for a scooter. Having a petrol version would lower the price a bit and get rid of the battery lease.

  • @toyotaprius79

    Looks like someone doesn't like looking into the details.
    1) The battery is rented for 3 years for the longest lease, can be rented up to a year.
    2) A softer suspension would equate to bouncy, unstable and unperforming handling (older Smart ForTwo for example).
    3) The windowless doors can come with a manufacturer or third-party aftermarket windows. The car that is aimed to be an alternative to motorbikes, scooters and bikes. A lack of doors never stopped them from being popular.

  • @mrmann5117
    @mrmann5117 4 роки тому

    Old video and mutch have changed, window issue fixed with new one released. Noise can be fixed with airplugs. A loud soundsystem in your ordinary car makes you deaf to noise around. Driving a motorcycle all year long the wind sound around the helmet is so loud you can absolutly loose your hearing. So plugs are sold to cut down on the noise in every motorcycle shop. Also common for people on Scooter/Motorcycle to play music to drown out the noise. No problem with freezing around 0C on a motorcycle with infrared powerbank driven heated clothes. My wife just bought a Twizy however. She saves on expensive toll through undersea tunnel, since it's free for the Twizy in Norway. The Twizy is the future, brilliant.

    I should've been more direct. Yeah, what I was referring to way how revolutionary the Avantime and Twizy were stylistically. I like the fact how designers can style a production car however they wish without restriction of market purpose or drivetrain requirements. Look what happened to the poor Austin Allegro.

    You said it right when you see it as better than a scooter. However, it surely CAN be a replacement for a car for some people. I can use a golf cart on the streets where I am to get to most conveniences including medical care. BUT, a Twizy with it's more practical range and speed would be a no-brainer for me and the price would be little more than the cost of a golf cart. Will we be able to buy them in the U.S.?

    They sell windows now. I've been driving motos for more than 10 years (Madrid and Hong Kong) and I would absolutely buy one because of the falls (my last accident 5 broken bones). But I live in the very center of the city, in a flat, no parking, no chance to plug it in. For 6k euros (plus the batteries rental which is clearly a minus) it is cheap and safe.

    If there's one thing about Renault, it's that it likes to be wild once in awhile, it likes to have balls of its own rather than balancing the spreadsheet like BMW and its i3 and i8.
    The Twizy is a respectful resurrection from its concept counterpart years back. Same doors, shape, idea.
    If that doesn't ring a bell, maybe you might've heard of Renault's AVANTIME. That's argued to be a modern relic and the flamboyant masterpiece of its time (decade), hence its name.

    What is this thing about being on the motorway and not being able to "accelerate out of trouble"? Is this a thing? Accelerating to get out of trouble? I thought you brake to get out of trouble.

    • @smike-lz8uf
      @smike-lz8uf 8 років тому +2

      +Kishgofu Say you're whizzing down the motorway and come up behind a slow moving vehicle which you need to get past or you'll both be there until dinnertime. Check the next lane is clear, indicate, move out and accelerate. Best to do it pretty pronto as by now other lane traffic will be bearing down on you and the last thing you need is to be beside the slow mover with no oomph to get ahead of him. You will be trampled in the stampede and given some vigorous hand signals! That's the danger you need to accelerate out of. :-)

    • @Kishgofu
      @Kishgofu 8 років тому +1

      smike09100 I still don't completely understand why (if both are so slow) that one needs to overtake. just be patient maybe? avoid trouble? simple to me.

    • @smike-lz8uf
      @smike-lz8uf 8 років тому +1

      +Kishgofu Oh absolutely, there's a lot to be said for just taking it easy and not getting one's hair in a twist, lol, but sometimes in order to maintain a smooth traffic flow it's best to enable a fairly constant - not fast, just constant - road speed. Bottlenecks build up within minutes when one lane is virtually out of action. Now everyone will be overtaking on the outside lanes with less room and higher speeds involved. Varying speed limit signs do help but progressive driving is all about 'constancy'. And patience! (And I wouldn't do any of it in a Twizy!)

    It's a excellent car, but they should simple upgrade it. The doors without windows is really confusing. Why would 2 doors really needed if 1 door with windows could be so much better. Many people are also with their privacy stuffs and also when they are doing shopping, they can't carry with them along. And about the heating for the cold and even for cooling they could attach some solar system on the roof.

(2).Greenercars (an environmentalist website) rates cars' full lifecycle pollution (from factory to recycling) (well-to-wheel fuel usage). They rate most EVs as no cleaner than a Prius. The large Tesla and Rav4 EVs score quite low.... less than a Jetta diesel sedan and all the various hybrids.

      I don't know, the negatives mentioned here are solved by driving taking poor British roads into consideration and using the aftermarket windows 😊

    Nevertheless, this might be "it". What Elon Musk doesn't realize is that not just combustion engines are obsolete, but also the car as we know it. People don't need a 50K car with leather seats and cupholders with an electric motor in it, people just want electric transportation that takes them from point A to point B and there's nothing else to the vehicle.

  • @toyotaprius79
    @toyotaprius79 11 років тому

    Yeah, that's why it's cheaper. After the lease, you won it. The purpose of the lease is to make the car cheaper upfront, it can be continued if requested if the driver actually fears about capacity loss or anything else with the battery after 10 - 15 years.
    I'm sorry, but if you don't know what's going on, how can you justify that by saying that I failed if I do know what's going on? Unless you're a typical troll trying to get a few seconds in the limelight..

    Don't forget that VBH is a total petrol-head. She's an ex racing driver. She's wealthy. She will HATE any EV that isn't directly comparable to a very serious sports car. She'd enjoy driving a £175,000 Tesla without all the auto gubbins spoiling things, and have great giggling fun thrashing the nuts off it with an armful of opposite lock round Silverstone, but she wouldn't want to actually own one. She'd go for a Range Rover with a 700 bhp 12 cylinder Lambo conversion. Something very, very fast and loud and noisy and messy and conspicuous. What larks, eh? Money no object.
    She's completely missing the point of a cheap EV designed to get poor people out of their crummy 15 year-old rusting Ford Fiestas. She'd be happy enough in a 250 mph all-electric Porsche with a 0-60 time of 1.2 seconds, or even on 200 mph superbike, but she hasn't got the faintest interest in finding nice things to say about cheap, nasty, ghastly, tiny, bike/pram vehicles for common people - especially when doors are extras and windows are extra extras.
    As it happens, the Twizy is a sort-of nice try, but the battery hire is a disastrous rip-off, and the vehicle itself is 10 years behind where it needs to be. And it's still far too expensive. £1,500 on the road would see millions of them on the streets, but most people looking for cheap wheels will still either go with a motorbike, scooter, or bicycle, or wait till China starts flogging super-cheap EV Noddy-cars over here.
    My push-bike's around 15 years old, is loaded with racks and panniers (it weighs 53 lbs unladen and can carry 50+ lbs of groceries); it's worth about £35. That's cheap transport. Yes, I get soaked when it rains, but who gives a sh*t, eh?
    The Twizy's just another toy for the £1,300 trendy bendy iPhone brigade.

    No speaker for pedestrians with disabilities to hear you coming? At least Fiat is the only one bothering to add this to there Fiat electric model. Even the Prius, neighbors here think you can hear them coming and that's before they almost run you over on your homes side street.
