Really enjoyed hearing the live commentary from both players. What I especially appreciate about Marcos is that he minimizes negative self-talk. Yeah, he occasionally gets frustrated with a bad shot or the tough conditions, but he is also quick to acknowledge good shots by Karue and and thinks constructively about how he can adapt his strategy and tactics. Even though Marcos is a touring pro, I think players of all levels could benefit from this. Thanks for a great vid, Karue!
Why is this just soooo dang good? Top level pro hitters, at a NORMAL court angle like we are used to seeing. You pick up way more at this viewpoint. The sound at contact, the movement on the ball- you just can't see this in a Televised match because of the angles and such. This is brilliant and I can watch this all day.
I can’t emphasize how much I appreciate you posting this. It’s amazing how accessible Marcos allows himself to be in these videos. He deserves the great indoor season he had this year. Karue , you rock too! Thanks for creating this awesome content.
I was listening to a tennis podcast where one of the hosts spoke of how amazing it would be to know Federer’s inner thoughts as he plays. This is a great format to get a sense of thinking from both these excellent players
Former University of Utah tennis player here 🙋🏽♂️ I still remember when you guys came to SLC with Mack, Giron (student assistant recovering from hip surgery), obviously you, Thompson, and Cressy. Just insane how stacked that team was man, crazy.
I mean its fair to say that he might be unranked player now but his career high is 371 ATP, in 2019 on ITF he won 2019 against Peniston or Lama, which are good challenger level players. Before that in 2017 and 2018 he won 3 ITF titles + he played plenty of challengers. He has beaten a lot of other good players (like Moraing, Rybakov, Blanch, Eubanks, Uchida. Riffice, Crawford, etc.), which we can see on challenger and ITF tour today regularly. He has experience of about 100 matches on the professional ITF and ATP challenger tour. So hes not any random tennis player.
Marcos's self-talk is so excellent. Brief frustration at a mistake, but quickly acknowledges a good shot by Karue, OR that he executed his point well, just missed the final shot.
Killer set, really shows how fast things happen at this level. Marcos is a machine, super high level of fitness. He demonstrates how important baseline fitness is necessary to keep the shots coming. Karue, you can clearly hit at ATP competition level, against a smart and powerful player like Marcos. Thanks for putting yourself out there!
That's really the biggest difference in the skill levels of any sport. Every level up is a bit faster and faster and faster. And the killer is it's EVERYTHING is faster: anticipation, set up, shot choices, positioning: everything. Elite fitness. And then toss in superior tennis IQ on top of it all. Crazy depth of abilities.

It's insane how easily Marcos changes direction on the ball as soon as he gets a ball that he feels is minutely short. It's definitely representative of his pro level footwork and how well he can see the ball.
Probably the best tennis content channel out there. Also, this video with Giron commentary involved too from the perspective of an ATP Pro is insane. I worked behind the scenes at an ATP 250 event and was able to see him practice. Gotta admit his level here looks a little different than tournament practice and play but it makes sense haha. Keep up the great work with the channel.
Comeback to the Tour confirmed then Karue?! 😜 You can hear that Marcos hits a heavier ball but Karue is so smooth and easy to watch. Really enjoyable video (especially after the car alarm stopped 😂).
It's always interesting to see top level players make the mistakes that I make (admittedly more often). Feels good to see they are human too. great little set.
Dude this is so awesome! Love that they are mic'd up, but not only that, they are giving phenomenal self-analysis! Especially Marcos Giron. Super cool guy, too.
Just want to add appreciation for this content, really interesting to hear professional players (or tour-caliber players) comment on in-game stuff like serve placements, expected serves, point strategies, etc. Reminds me of that long video Federer put out 4 or 5 years ago practicing with Lucas Pouille -- lots of commentary on his mindset during play, and even though it's practice among pros, all of us can gain insight from their process. Anyway, thanks for the content, both of you.
this is actually a really nice way to pick up how higher up players think and act in between points. maybe less vocal when it's the real thing but this video gave me some ideas
I love this commentary - I really am learning a lot from your videos. Thank you for sharing the detailed thoughts, it helps me gain ideas on how to quickly address points and adjust my play. Thanks for the great content!

Question for Marcos - where does Karue stack up compared to some of the pros you have played? Do you think he could make it as a pro if he committed to it?
man i really love this series, you can learn so much from this. the one thing I def take with from this video is how important is footwork and fitness amazing video keep it coming!
Huge difference with pro thinking (versus amateurs like me). You can lose a point and be content with how you played it whereas an amateur is broadly only happy with winning points. I’m being reductionary here but believe this applies in general
I get so angry when I play tennis, I am of course an amateur, nowhere near junior level but still. I get so angry at myself for double faulting and missing shots and doing dumb plays even though I only play like once every 2 weeks or so for fun with a friend. Feel like breaking my racket 24/7
Nice to have a current pro on your channel. Obviously Marcos didn't put all the meat in the oven...but it's been interesting. I am amazed about some comments regarding your come back to the tour...as if playing well in a "very friendly" set against a pro means anything...Maybe you can explain how difficult and expensive is just "to try"...by starting to play futures almost every week, and maybe some challenger if you are a very good shape...just to luckily break even if you are the ranked about 300-400 in the world...(what it is very complicated).
Karue, Man you're good! Between this set with Marcos, and I saw the match you had against Eubanks in the final of the futures, I got to tell you, you are definitely a top 50 ATP player no matter what anybody says! You should be proud of yourself! Great Job! I still think it's not too late for you to get back into the ATP... CHALLENGE YOURSELF! DO WHAT OTHERS WOULD NEVER EVEN THINK OF DOING! GO FOR IT MAN!
Hi Karue!!! I love your backhand. Can you do a video showing how you grip the racket, contact point, how high you racket head is and whatever else you can think that my help us, please? I love your videos!!! Thanks for everything

Hey Karue, A few observations: 1. You hit a few balls to the middle of the court (which you already acknowledged). That isn't a bad thing if you're under pressure, although if you have time, it's a different story. I call these discretionary shots. For me, discretionary shots should always be hit to the corner where your opponent is not. Make them run / try to damage the opponent. It's easy to say, but people are not robots. That's why the practice court is used; you hit 1,000 shots to build the muscle memory, so that when you need it, it's there (as close to being a robot as you can get). 2. I noticed a lot of second serves from MG didn't have a lot of speed on them. Is that normal? 3. What date should I put on the calendar for your return to active competition?
Fun video. Something that would make it a lot more enjoyable would be an overlay of the score on screen. It's a bit hard to follow as the game gets longer.
"First serve. Can't be playing second serves every time, come on. First serve. Doesn't need that much pace, just a good first serve...shit." Haha, that's tennis alright! Fantastic video once again, guys, thank you so much for putting this kind of high-quality insight on the channel. Seeing real point play and hearing the player's thoughts during each game is superb. As a side note, I noticed in another comment that some people didn't know the final score here (6-4 Karue) and that reminded me that some viewers may be new to the sport and not used to tracking score in their head from point to point. Perhaps it would be possible to add some score captions or timestamp markers that show the score after-the-fact? Just a thought. Keep up the great work! It was cool seeing Marcos play some great matches in the Paris Masters event recently!
Karue, I think you need and can handle a more powerful stick. I know the feel of racquets like yours is great for utr 10+ players ,but, the lower racquet power is to much a penalty for a player your size and level. I would try a wider beam , maybe bigger head, and , up the stiffns rating some. If you are not having injury issues, I think your feel can adapt/compensate , to a degree, in that direction. On another note, it would be fun to watch you re-enter competition tennis and take us along for the journey to experience the good, the bad, and the ugly, alongside you. Loving what you are doing...
