Arrested for Protesting Hamas: The Iranian Activist Defying Tyranny in the UK

- In a deeply concerning incident that has sparked outrage over infringements on free speech, Iranian activist Niyak Ghorbani was subjected to a brutal arrest by London's Metropolitan Police simply for holding a placard reading "Hamas is a terrorist" during a pro-Palestinian protest on March 9th. Disturbing video footage shows the 38-year-old activist, who has lived in the UK for two and a half years after fleeing repression in Iran, being swarmed by an irate mob of protesters who attempted to grab his sign while chanting "Free Palestine" and "shame on you" at him. The confrontation quickly descended into violence, with Ghorbani being shoved by protesters before trying to leave the heated situation. However, multiple Metropolitan officers cornered him, with one officer caught on camera crumpling his "Hamas is terrorist" banner to the cheers of the pro-Palestinian crowd. Despite Ghorbani's insistence that his intent was "to show the British public that the protesters were supporting Hamas and not the Palestinian civilians in Gaza," he was arrested, with the activist alleging to The Jerusalem Post that "the police injured his hands and back" and stating "Instead of apologizing, the police issued a statement full of lies and played with my dignity. It's shameful." The police's official statement claimed Ghorbani was detained for assault to "prevent a breach of peace," but Jonathan Turner, an executive director for pro-Israel lawyers, condemned it as a "brutal" false arrest, arguing "the police appear to have committed criminal offenses of assault and false imprisonment" by wrongfully detaining the peaceful activist while allowing his actual assailants to go free.

I've seen this guy get arrested multiple times, live, he's usually pretty happy and he never loses hope or courage. He seems to be an amazing person who is just trying to inform, never violent or disruptive. We need more men like him

I watched it and I am shocked. I hope he will make a law suit against the police. They even destroyed evidence while throwing away his banner.
He was arrested on March 2nd again on March 9th, and they attempted to arrest him on the next weekend, but released and he was arrested on the Al Quds Day, a few days ago.

I have seen Gulbani's arrest on several occasions on U-tube. It makes me ashamed to be British. Gulbani is only agreeing with British Government policy! The London Metropolitan police are out of control - or rather, they are controlled ultimately by our benighted Mayor, Sadiq Khan (or Sad IQ, as he is sometimes called). Mahyar Tousi, the independent journalist, has to wear a bullet-proof, stab-proof vest in order to report the 'pro-Palestinian' demonstrations.
Don't worry, British 'dissidents' are treated just as badly - Tommy Robinson, for example (arrested by 30 (!) police officers, handcuffed behind his back, pepper-sprayed at point-blank range in his face, and then arrested, and banished (!) from entering London).

Mahyar Tousi, who has reported on this Iranian, is also from Iran. It has gotten to the point where Mahyar has had so many death threats, he now reports with a protective vest on, and, I believe, has his own security following him around. Sad, but true. These terrorists have British politicians running scared for their own lives, yet still the police refuse to stop the "protests". In the last few days, several members of Al Qaeda have been released from prison, where, by all accounts, they and their Islamic brethren have been forcing other prisoners to convert to Islam or be killed. I'd like to know who is allowing this to go on, while true patriots fear for their lives. The British flag is deemed offensive, while the Palestinian flag flies over Westminster. Absolutely disgusting!

I think there must be enough Muslims in high enough places so they can call the shots. It’s going to take something pretty bad perhaps for the authorities to wake up. I hope that Mahyar Tousi and all others calling this out will stay safe. It’s so very shocking that people get death threats and so little ( it seems ) is done to address this. I think there are a lot of people out there very grateful to MT, who would protect him.

What can I do to help the people of Iran? What's the best way?
At this point lobbying for zero aid, blocking asylum and sanctions are the only things that could help. For every one guy like this one in the video Europe let in 10 agents of the regime whether activists or even preachers running these pro palestine protests. There's even a council in some small town in England full of pretty much pro-regime Iranians - their only disagreement is that they are socialists and Iranian regime is more islamic than socialist. No idea what approach might work for outside of Europe but our every attempt at helping made things worse and brought in more problems.

I live in the UK. The problem is, that people like him are not organising. If he or anyone actually organised protests and advertised them I would attend of course but I just dont see anything and the end up showing up to places almost by themselves expecting a good reaction. Meanwhile, the pro palestine group has organised exceptionally.
He goes to the pro israel events , I saw him at a counterprotest against the pro Palestine saturday march ,two weeks ago I took part in for Israelis , jewish people and their allies. There were a lot less people but two groups called remember 7.10 and 710 humanchain are trying to organise this now .

The principle or the day in the UK unfortunately seems to be this way. there also seem to be different principles based on who is protesting or giving a speech some volunteer police harassed a christian girl who was singing in a street . and said that such a thing should be done in the church or that the church should I have given her permission to sing in the street. A Christian priest asked for help when he had been called for racist things and other things but the police told him you should not talk to people but about lifestyle issues or criticize religions other than your own. In the UK, a person can be told or arrested with the justification of the person's message causes mental stress type
