Okay Fun Fact about I’m Still Here, the film from the Brazilian director Walter Salles… The lead actress Fernanda Torres is actually Fernanda Montenegro’s daughter, Montenegro is like a God here in Brazil she was the only brazilian actress ever nominated for Lead Actress in the Oscars and considered our greatest actress so we’re SUPER hyped about a film where mother and daughter will play the SAME character in different time frames… It would mean a LOT for this film to do well and get recognized in international feature categories and for Fernanda Torres to shine like her mother did, what a legacy!
Fernanda Torres is very Laura Dern coded in the sense that they’re both the best nepo babies from their respective countries and they have *very* similar careers when it comes to their film roles and their performances in TV (especially in comedies!!!). They’re both so gifted in comedy and drama lol. It’s actually insane!
Those two have done it before in “The House of Sand” (2005). In that film they played mother and daughter and the same characters.

I’d argue Wonka already showed he is. I know people recognize that brand but I feel confident it over-performed because of him.

Complete Unknown is based on a book and is from the scriptwriter of Silence and Gangs of NY so there may be adapted screenplay potential there. Also i think that sound is likely a lock for a music biopic. If the movie hits, it'll likely be a huge crowd pleaser to folk and 60s aficionados so i could see that carrying it for a BP nom.
Musician biopics don’t get screenplay nominations, obviously Bohemian Rhapsody and Elvis didn’t and weren’t gonna do it but even Ray the Ray Charles biopic also didn’t get a Screenplay nomination and that’s one of the better performing music biopics this century.
@@Kilamanola those were all original screenplays, IIRC. The book "Dylan Goes Electric" was a very well received book and accounts for a lot of the big stars of the time. That and the scriptwriter makes it a category to keep an eye on. Maybe a long shot, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Most intrigued for Brutalist and The End. They sound super ambitious and unlike most other festival titles.
At almost 4 hours of length, Brutalist must be a masterpiece. Otherwise it will be torture to watch

I am super pumped for Conclave I am reading the book right now nearly finished, absolutely loved the trailer probably Sing Sing’s biggest competition in Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Actor, and some of the techs.
Some quick things about I’m still here:
-the lead actress Fernanda Torres is the daughter of Fernanda Montenegro and she’s probably the best Brazilian working actress
-she won best actress at Cannes when she was 21
- Fernanda Montenegro will play the older version of the character with Alzheimer’s
- the film was acquired for US distribution by Sony picture Classics
- I think they are pretty confident with the film and it looks like at least here in Brazil they’re gearing up for a pretty big promotional campaign
+ Salles is billionaire so he can do a good campaign. It will depend on the reception

The key phrasing here is that ONE of the tiff performer award recipients wins an Oscar. We still don’t know who the other one is and since it’s usually one actor and one actress, it’ll probably be Ralph Fiennes or Samuel L Jackson. “Nightbitch” has incredibly high bust potential and I think this is all just people being restless about the category early on
Lady Gaga still seems like a lead to me based on the new Joker: Folie a Deux trailer. That's a film I'm "jumping out of my pants to see".

I wonder if We Live in Time will be received similarly to A Good Person also starring Florence Pugh (a film that I liked a lot personally).
I am also curious if Without Blood was something Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek decided to collaborate on whilst together on the set of Eternals.
I'm so excited for "Maria", big fan of Maria Callas and Angelina Jolie and I'm sure it will be one of my favorites of this year.

I know Timothee is popular, but I'm not sure I'm buying that Bob Dylan biopic = Box Office hit. It doesn't look like Bohemian Rhapsody style fun.

BoRhap made over 900MM, but this is going to be more niche. It probably won't make that much, but something like 300-400M would be a box office hit for a movie straight up drama about folk music.

I really wouldn’t sleep on April from the Venice lineup if I were you. The director’s first film Beginning was amazing, so this will definitely be Georgia’s submission. And with the wasteland of International Feature contenders out of Cannes this year (this really should’ve gone there as Kulumbegashvili has been pretty consistently shepherded by the fest up until now), a dent is definitely possible. Expect her to at least pick up some award out of Venice.
Fun fact: Fernanda Torres, the lead from I’m Still Here, is Fernanda Montenegro’s (Central Station) daughter! I have a few reasons to think that if the movie does well, which I believe it will based on the buzz it’s gathering, its selection to Venice/TIFF, its early purchase by Sony Classics and the personal involvement that Walter Salles had with it (he’s close friends with the family whom the story is about and took 12 years developing it), I could really see a Dern-Ladd in Rambling Rose situation happening here. Well, firstly, they’re both PHENOMENAL actresses. At 94 years old Montenegro is unanimously considered Brazil’s greatest actress and has collected hundreds of accolades like the Silver Bear for Best Actress, an International Emmy, and a Best Actress nod at the Oscars. Whereas Torres is also one of the nation’s most beloved actresses/screenwriters and also has a Cannes Best Actress award to her name. Secondly, their role in the film is VERY meaty. They’re playing Eunice Rubens Paiva, the wife of a leftist congressman who was kidnapped and killed by the Brazilian Military Dictatorship in the 70s but whose official whereabouts remained a mystery up until 2011 when the President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff, who was tortured by the regime herself, instituted the National Commission of Truth, an organ responsible for investigating the crimes of the Dictatorship. Torres is playing Eunice for most of the film’s duration, portraying her challenges in navigating the political turmoils of the times while trying to keep her family and sanity together after her husband’s kidnapping, while Montenegro plays her in the film’s final stretch when she’s suffering from dementia/alzheimer’s and the truth about her husband’s destiny is finally revealed to the public. They’re gonna eat this role up. I’ve read the book and you’re in for a treat. It’s gonna be a real tearjerker!!!

Even if wild robot fails i wouldn't lost hope for other non-disney animation movie, while inside out 2 is the highest animated and most popular right now, the oscars don't went with sequels most of the time, keep it mind that we're still in the middle of the year and there's still other animated films like flow,lotr,memoir of snale,Wallace and gromit,colors withing and maybe transformers one. Like i said before inside out 2 's audience and box office are great but its CRITICAL reviews are kinda inferior to the original and i dont see golden globe or bafta, so i think is better to wait until the rest came out because who knows? There's always a chance of something similar like into the spider verse or boy and the heron happend again

The Life of Chuck is super bleak. Unless they change the story big time, it would be the single least comedic film the Globes have EVER considered as a comedy.
Lav Diaz is probably the best director working today and I think it's an absolute tragedy that his last two films (When the Waves Are Gone and Essential Truths of the Lake) are yet to get released in the US...
