Nathan, I truly believe most of your 175K subscribers love every thing you show us about your farm and sawmill operation, we are not here just to watch the LT70 go back and forth, as spectacular as that is, and we do love it when you throw water on a log of rare beauty, regardless of the species. But mostly, we tune in to see what is new at the Out of the Woods channel, and, for me at least, it is never disappointing. Also, I ordered a couple pairs of suspenders from Killinger for me and my son, I know we will love them. Best wishes to you and your family.
I strongly 2nd Jack's comments about Your channel Nathan, as always well done Brother!
Appreciate that comment
@@retiringrenegade9874 absolutely 👍
Nathan, I know you get a lot of unsolicited advice. Let me add to it. LOL. With that poplar, you may want to reach out to the historic restoration community. Up until about WWII, the preferred wood for windows was poplar. It's straight grained, takes shapes easily with both power and hand tools, and it paints up magnificently. MTSU has a highly respected Historic Restoration program and they are always looking for suppliers who can feed raw materials to their craftspeople. There may be other programs nearer to you in East Tennessee.
And, as always, a million thanks for what you do and for sharing it with us.
Best sawmill you tube channel ive found thanks
Thanks 🙏
Nathan, you’ve taught this city girl some things about how lumber is harvested and how to pick planks for woodworking projects (avoid the pith). When the logs slid off the truck, I found myself saying to myself “nice big log with central void but can yield some nice planks, low grade pine because I see where the multiple limbs were cut off.” Thank you for teaching me!
Awesome
Nathan, Always enjoy whatever you share. Thanks for all of it. How's your dad doing. I enjoy seeing the two of you together!
Nathan - some of my favorites is the sawing of the juniper / Eastern Red Cedar. I've always loved the smell as a kid and wish I could just come by and shovel up the sawdust for you. I was thinking I could bag it in smaller cloth bags for sachet projects in vehicles, homes or lesser used cabins and such. Just keep doing what you are doing in Eastern Tennessee.
Another very relaxing video to watch Nathan. I find your presentations take my mind off my constant pain. It does not matter what is included in each presentation because 'variety is the spice of life'. Cheers, Don from South Aust.
Hope you feel better soon
Good job Nathan, got to get them weeds ASAP , helps alot. Love to see the Cedar being milled. Good looking load of logs delivered. Stay safe and keep up the good work around there. Fred.
I really appreciate your channel. Thanks Nathan!😃
My pleasure!
Nathan, you are one busy little beaver. Have a great weekend.
Nathan, try using the foam gun that Mike from "Outdoors with the Morgans" uses on all his equipment. Works like a charm - spray it on then wash it off with your Stihl pressure washer, followed by his Stihl blower !! End result is marvelous !! No streaks or wet spots !! No drying required !!
Looking forward to the results from the poplar logs on the LT70.
My mom has a very large popular in her back yard. Waiting on it to get blown over during a storm.
The camera that follows movement is really neat.
agreed
Listening to you makes me just a touch homesick. Southwest Ohio, true, but rural Ohio isn't much different. Thank you, Sir.
Simpson Strong Ties are the way to go. It will add Strength and Years of life to any structure... not to mention Peace of Mind when to next big wind storm comes along. Money well spent. Love watching your endeavors to run a small farm and mill.
Tanks Tom
Hi Nathan, looks like a beautiful day in Tennessee, watching you wash the 4 wheeler reminded me of Mike Morgan’s special attachment for washing his equipment, you should let him know your birthday is coming up ……..
My advise with trusses is build the first one and use it as a template the first one you build is the last one you put up 🤙
Just stopped by to watch you pressure was the 4-wheeler. Thanks!
Awesome
Have you heard of Huon Pine? Some of these trees where I live in Tasmania (Australia) are over 2,000 years old. Hard to believe but it's true. Because it grows so slowly the wood is prized. Was used in boat building as it has a very high oil concentration but not so much now as it's becoming rare.
King William [Billy] Pine was also highly prized by the early convict timber cutters. Resists rot and is easily worked by either hand or electric tools. Another marvellous boat building timber. Most has been cut out and the Tasmanian Forestry Commission severely regulates what remains.
@peterkemp1973 Yes, agreed. Another incredible wood. Boat builders loved King Billy Pine. Easy to work with. There were a lot of old houses with King Billy and Huon floors and panelling. Worth a mint now.
Awesome Friday morning early video release with coffee, Thanks for taking us along. Nice log load saved from the dump 4 sure. Glad to hear Cedar was the choice. Truss Fab we made a jig on our gooseneck deck to help speed up multiple layout and not having to bend over so much for us older guys 🤠🇺🇸
Thanks buddy
I could almost smell that cedar log as you milled it! One of my favorite woods, but bloody knots everywhere!
I always enjoy seeing you cut some of that beautiful cedar.
Good stuff buddy, nice looking logs and sure made some nice cedar boards. Place looks great man, keep on keepin on buddy!
Thanks 👍
Always a pleasure to watch your content. Thank you.
It’s always interesting, whatever you do… thanks!
You are getting really good with the log clamp. Soon you will be able to make them logs dance.
I enjoyed the video Nathan. I can’t wait to see that poplar. 👍❤️
I have an old government handbook from the 30s? That covers all kinds of construction techniques. That’s how I learned to make custom stairs amongst other things.
Spraying from the 4 wheeler… looks like fun!
I LOVED THE COW LAWN ORNAMENT!💚
That is the best news I was waiting for the chicken coop siding that was driving me crazy
Nathan i really enjoy watching your videos they are always interesting.
Like you, I do a lot of weed spraying on my property. If, you want to give your weed killer some extra kick, add some DEF Fluid to it. It is basically Nitrogen and it tricks the weeds into thinking it is good stuff? Speeds up the absorption process and makes the weeds die faster.
Use rafters & collar ties instead of trusses. You'll get more headroom that way.
Finally got to finish watching this one 😊👍😊
hey Evan
@@OutoftheWoods0623 good Sunday morning 🌄
Instead of trusses, I think I'd just go with box beams. 12' feet isn't that much of a spam, and box beams would be easier, cheaper, faster, and give more usable interior space.
yeah i got to get a bat and carb for my Kaw 4x4....and 2 new front tires,,new ones on the back... work just keeps coming Nathan,,,,,i just got the grass cut again,,its rained every week....so far...i have not put tomatos in yet....im behind...but the Sun is warm... thats what i love about summer,,you have to get things done,,it dont last long...have a good one,,love watching a guy work,,haa
Nathan, you should consider getting a foam Cannon like the one Mike Morgan uses. It would make it much easier for you to wash your equipment and keep it shiny and new looking. It would also probably save you some time which is at a premium it seems. Bill H from Cranberry Township PA
Thank you for sharing
Nathan the Cedar on the mill has some wonderful grain pattern
Thanks! I enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work. I hope you enjoy doing what you do, hope this little bit helps keep you going..
Thank you
I built trusses once for a small garage. Lap joints at the apex secured with one 1/2 inch nut & bolt through the glued joint and off you go. It's probably overkill but there was never a problem with them.
You can also use metal reinforcement plates made by Simpson Manufacturing under the brand name Simpson Strong-Tie.
Get them at your local Lowes.
Best weedkiller in my yard is Vinegar essence (Ättika in Sweden). Harmless to nature but plants hate it and wilters. Would never touch any other weeding material. Oh and salt! Salt is good on our driveway etc. Melts into the paving cracks and kills off the weeds inbetween.
Always fun to see the new logs arrive and what comes out of it. :-D
Yes I did. Drew them up on graft paper then layer them out on garage floor drawing them out with chalk. Layer the 2x4's into place and glued and nailed. Building been up for about 40 years so I guess it worked.
I can relate to not enough time in the day, I have made trusses, it was a looooong time ago , my memory was the 2nd thing to go and I don't remember the 1st ,lol I might would gone with green or red roofing on the fuel hut , black may get really hot down here in the south, thanks for everything. Tony
I love that color!!! Oh and by the way I'm glad that mentioned what saw blades you're using - cause I forgot... 🤔
i love the look of the cedar
Regarding the roof, At least you are honest mate !! Good on you !
Great video!
really liking the new format
Thanks 🙏
Nathan, have ever thought of buying a foam canon like the one Mike Morgan uses?? Until next time have a great day
ill look into that
Side note Not to criticize. In most shops it is frowned upon to take a 4 wheeler, motorcycle or Woodmizer LOL etc. in for service if you have not washed it first. Just a note to get better attention to service from your mechanic. I enjoy the video's, wearing my OotW tee shirt.👍
Nice hat
Bring on the tulip!
Keep up the great work
What town in Tennessee are you near?
I really enjoy watching your videos very educational.
Nice video appreciated Nathan
Build your own trusses? OH YEEAH!
I still think you should 'rent' a few of your neighbor's goats to help with mowing, overgrowth and weed control.
At this point, if anyone’s been watching you for any amount of time and hasn’t figured out what kinds of saw blades you use and how to order them, I’m not sure I want them operating machinery. 😂
I say to myself “I get my blades from Joe Maine down in Georgia “ when using a particularly large kitchen knife 😂 living in an apartment in Munich Germany 😂
Good stuff👍👍👍👍
Nathan, you new, motion following, camera seems to be working out great. 😁✌🖖
Green tip..standard 25 degree power washer tip:)
hi there good show , john
Hey Nathan why don’t you take your cedar slabs your going to burn and run them through a chipper. That way you could sell the cedar chips.
Hey Nathan, love the channel!
What mixture are you using in your tank to kill the weeds? I’ve always just used roundup in a small sprayer, but never my big tank. Thanks!
Kris Harbour for your A frame Nathan.
Lots of knots, but very attractive!
That tripod seems to be working quite well Nathan!
Finally, I thought you would never tell us what blade you use on the sawmill LOL
Like your country accent😊
You are a busy man.
I've always had truss issues.
There's nothing like good help, & I'm nothing like "good help."
Jeff Barron built an A frame cabin on his site.
Enjoy your operation and videos. What fuel does the mill use and do you not have issues with the exhaust fumes
Diesel & shed is always open on 2 sides.
Hi Nathan. I just came across your video and this is the first one I’ve seen. I look forward to seeing more. There was one scene you did not explain that maybe you can help me understand. It looks like you were filling a big jug with windshield washer fluid and setting it on the sawmill, but I did not see what the purpose was. What was the use of the large jug of washer fluid?
I watch alot of sawyer videos. The guys keep the track the mill slides back and forth on nice and soapy. You can see it down on the left. You like Nathan try Matt Cremona. Good milling channels. 👍
The solution drips on the blade to keep sap from building up and creating friction.
looks like a 4 tube fluorescent light fixture is flickering and going bad. Time to replace with LED fixture. More light and lower wattage.
I have a tulip poplar _exactly_ like that in my back yard, outside the window of my home office, as I am typing,, except that it is still standing! ..... It isn't as big (at least not yet - it's 18"-20" diameter a couple of feet above ground), but 20 years ago when we moved here, there had been damage to the trunk, that had led to rot and to ants living in the hollow center, so if I ever cut it down I know it will be hollow in the center. The tree leans slightly away from my home, so I am not concerned about it falling - there is nothing beneath it to come to any harm.
When're you going to build the doors for the timberframe?
What pressure do you wash your vehicles at on the pressure washer most times? And although it may not work well in certain areas, have you tried the 'propane torch' weed killing method? Not sure how well that would work where you are doing it.
Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow.
I think you got that old saying "Bass Ackwords 😂
Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today!!! LOL
@@tonygrimes13 prefer my way.
@@IN_THIS_DAY_AND_AGE I vary, it depends on the day!!! Lol
what do you do with the outside cuts of cyder?
Are the slabs off of the cedar logs any good for fire wood ?
They will burn hot and fast. Great to start a fire with. Especially the shavings and bark from cedar trees. Excellent fire starter for sure.
I've got a white pine I cut down I'll be using a chainsaw mill on. Any tips on how to get it ready?
Lots of air flow. Pine is bad to get mold this time of year
If I was to bring you some tulip poplar logs could you cut them for me? I don't have a big truck and it would probably take me a few trips!
Look in *about* section for e-mail address.
Nathan sped up cleaning, because "Free bird" was playing in the back ground 😊
Bring on the LMB
Hey Tim!
I have a question that has probably been asked before but do you pay for the loads of logs that come in from local tree services
I get mine for free
Because they pay at a log drop off from county
Nathan give Mike Morgan a call on what he uses to wash his equipment I think you might be impressed.
Will do
Good stuff! Btw, just because you record something doesn’t mean you have to post it, but it might prove useful to have. 👍
Why don’t you pressure wash in the gravel so the concrete does not get dirt stained?
Why do logs always seem to hollow out and not from the outside in?
What are you spraying? Gly4?
I would like to see that poplar hit the saw
What kind of weed killer are you u using
Where did you get those suspenders good sir?
Mentioned in one of the last 3 or 4 videos, watch to find out.
I gotta ask do you order your logs or go and chop them yourself?
Order
The lighting at the end of the video made me think you were in front of a green screen LOL
How do you learn to identity a tree species by looking at a sawlog ? A better question, how can ‘ I ‘ learn this skill ?
Excellent video as always Nathan, but the sound was very poor inside the sawmill, very quiet and hardly any sound.
Not for me, sound was perfect.
