    Great job i absolutely love watching your videos. I work on hybrids and ev vehicles starting coming slowly, i absolutely love it ,but we don't do reconditioning or recycling batteries, we send them and they take care of it , or even i don't replace bad cell modules ,i remove them and install new one , or other hybrid problems ,insulation test and much more i enjoy it its fun .

    One thing I don't see - what is a good vs. a bad battery. Following the Dr Prius + Torque process, 2 blocks that are below 14.4 at freeze frame minimum (13.9 and 14). In that video I think this would be a bad battery like the example and need a new battery vs. reconditioning/rebalance but this video seems to suggest rebalancing might be indicated. Can you give a clearer guideline as to what makes a good (rebalancable) battery vs. a bad one?

    1. Can we recondition an HV battery in the car itself without opening? If yes. How?

    Thank you for a great video. I drive a 2018 Prius Prime/PHEV it has 135kkm and opened since new. My question is how to check the the huge battery it has 8.8kWh, is it possible to check it with Dr. Prius App ? How to do balancing ? Thank so much for amazing videos.

    I have seen your video on how to charge the modules with a 12 volt battery!!! Great video! But i am wondering if there is a way to discharge them without expensive tools??? Then charge them back up with the quick 12 volt battery method? I don’t want to spend roughly $1000 on the equipment the recondition my battery. A new OEM Toyota HV battery is $1750 at my dealership. So spending that much doesn’t make a lot of sense financially for me to do. Love your videos btw!

    I picked up a 09 Prius that has been sitting for over a year.
    What’s the best way to charge the HV battery?
    Should I rotate the cells and charge them all in parallel? I have a lab grade power supply that I can set the voltage and current.
    Thanks

      Hey, I would first check the cooling vents usually around the back seats. Make sure they're not clogged. Check the filter or mesh, vacuum it. If days are hot, make sure you run AC while driving.

    So, you are basically rebalancing the battery by discharging. Is the overall capacity / MAH still lower? Why not replace the cells as well? I tried to follow both videos, but I understood what I understood.

    • @user-ou4ps1yt2b
      @user-ou4ps1yt2b Рік тому

      @Hybrid Solution Diagnostics I have the CQ3 . Sorry for late comment I'm trying figure out what the volt for each module for 2002 1st gen pruis is supposed to be. I don't wanna over charge at 8.40 :/ the modules were ALL mostly at 7.47-7.51. I just wanted to clean the copper and maybe just put aluminum to (balance out). 12 modules I charged over 8.25 I think they will balance out I don't wanna charge anymore modules. Til in morning check the volts. What you think??

    • @GaryMarkowski
      @GaryMarkowski Рік тому

      @@user-ou4ps1yt2b After much research, and personal experience, I think it is okay to charge a module up to 8.55 volts. Somewhere between 8.6 and 9 volts a Delta V will occur, indicating the battery is fully charged. If you charge a battery up to 9 volts and keep it there for more than a few minutes, you could cause the chemical (or gas) that triggers the Delta V to be used up, and then the module won't trigger the Delta V anymore. I have two SkyRC B6AC v2 chargers. Many of these chargers do not detect the Delta V (voltage drop) and can overcharge the module, and I don't see a way to limit the voltage on the upper end. I have charged modules past 8.65 volts and I think I have seen the Delta V kick in around 8.59 volts or 8.70 volts. I wonder if I damaged them. I have the Dr. Prius app on my android phone. It has a feature where you can create a log showing the voltage for each pair of modules along with speed, amps, and battery temps, and you can email the log to yourself. I then load the log into Excel. When the Prius is charging, the voltage of the paired modules can be around 9.35 volts and some as high as 9.68 volts. When the Prius starts discharging, the voltage of the modules drops to what I think is their actual voltage which is from 8.65 volts to 8.81 volts. One time, I noticed the charging voltage got up to 10.01 volts, and about 15 seconds later the ChgLimit changed from 33.2 to 0. So I think the Delta V for at least one of the modules kicked in. After this, when discharging, the voltage dropped to about 8.88 to 8.98 volts. The battery temp increased from 82 F to about 89 F in a few minutes. I do not know if this is normal behavior.

    By any chance could you please provide me with torque specs value for the bolts on the plastic brackets that compress the battery modules. For some reason can't find any information anywhere. It's for 2008 prius.

    • @GaryMarkowski
      @GaryMarkowski Рік тому

      I have a 2008 Prius. When the modules are cool and aligned properly, you can tighten the bolts down so there is no gap between the end of the rods and the plastic end pieces (without using a lot of torque). If some of the modules have expanded and do not compress back to their normal shape on their own, then it is likely they have been damaged and need to be replaced. The highest voltage you should charge modules to is about 8.55 volts. Also, charge at 5 or 6 amps at the most when charging modules individually. When charging a module, the voltage of the charger can be 9.5 volts, and when you remove the charger, the voltage of the module should not be much higher than 8.60 volts. Once the modules reach 8.55 volts, you should apply a small trickle charge to keep it at 8.55 volts for an hour or more. If you charge or discharge higher than 7.2 amps, you can damage the module.

    This deep cycle conditioning process could easily be automented by using a simple control algorithm, if you wanted to get into the business of reconditioning batteries. This is a great idea for a business - if you can make it competitive to swapping in a new battery module.
