Everyone just dislikes this video before watching it because of the title. Should've called it "Earthbound: The WORST RPG Ever? No, not really." or something, to be less misleading.
Someone who judges something by merely glancing at it is the kind of child beyond reasoning anyway. Even if he did change the title, people would still see "EarthBound" and "Worst" and flip out. I one time had someone message me, claiming he was going to murder and sodomize me because he thought I said Chrono Trigger sucks. People are just angry and lazy.
I think a lot of the dislikes come from his tone in this video. He just comes off as an asshole to me; even though I love Earthbound and agree with the point he's making, his condescending presentation of his argument is what gets to me.

Tbh I beat Franky at lvl 12. As soon as I saw that there was a boss fight I got worried (without even fighting him) so I went ahead and grinded up just to make sure i'm ready. Turns out I beat him with just a couple of hits. I kind of regret leveling up because I missed the challenge of my first real boss fight. To be fair the street enemies can gang up on you and take you out, you might not find as many healing items and/or some enemies or bosses can get multiple critical hits which happened to me. Wow. Literal proof that people click onto videos, dislike, and leave absurd comments without even watching the first 5 seconds. Parents, CONTROL YOUR CHILDREN! I remember having trouble with Frank on my first playthrough. The game does start off pretty slow, and the humor is way more enjoyable than the gameplay imo. Even EarthBound Beginnings on NES is a heck of a lot better than Final Fantasy 1 and Dragon Warrior though. And the floating continent in Final Fantasy 6 - literally unplayable without grinding. It's all a matter of taste + patience
I think Earthbound's pacing is fine. Though, the Happy Valley is probably the most brutal part of the game. Also, not true about the floating continent. I regularly do Low-Level Runs through FF6.
